Loud Rumbling/Revving Noise

I posted on another thread about minor vibration issues as well as this periodic loud exhaust noise/rattling/vibration. I just found this thread today. I've been to the dealer twice and they haven't been able to do anything for me. I called the dealer where I bought the truck from today and they basically said if they can't duplicate the symptoms when it's there, that they can't do anything. I called another dealer where I used to get my EcoDiesel serviced and they haven't seen any trucks with this issue either. Both dealerships told me to bring it in when the loud noise is occurring. Of course this usually happens when I'm traveling between facilities for work and I can't just leave for the dealership when I'm working.

An interesting thing I found this week however (and this is how I came across this thread): I've recorded my truck with my phone when it is making the loud noise. Whenever I played it back it sounded unimpressive (not nearly as loud as it was in person). This past week I got the idea to play it through my truck's speakers. Lo and behold it sounded just as loud as it did when it happened live. This is how I figured out that the noise was coming through the speakers. I told the dealership this, and they didn't care. Also of note: When the loud noise is happening live, it will do so with the radio on or off, at any speed (seems more RPM related), in Neutral or in Park.

I saw the link about the bi-pass cable and think I will look into that. I hope my findings are able to help someone. This is really annoying. I love the truck other than these vibration and noise issues, but I am considering trading my truck and going to another brand. Ram Cares has contacted me here and I really appreciate it. The problem is, for them to open a case I have to take the truck to a dealership where they are clueless, which I find to be a waste of my time.
I believe this is the anc drone that is well documented on this forum. It normally happen when foot is slightly on the gas crusing. Try hitting the tow haul switch when it's happening. If it stops then I'm 100% sure you have the anc drone like many others. To get rid of this most have disable the anc .

Just thought I'd write something new since no one has commented since December of 2019.

I'm dealing with this issue and have been for over a year. I'm in a very rural area so traveling to a dealer isn't handy. I've been reluctant to yank wires out of a harness on a vehicle still under warranty. The dealer has tried helping us but I'm not confident with them. They say they are conversing with the higher ups at Ram..........but for some reason I just don't think they really care since this vehicle never acts up in their possession. I cannot make it happen when need be so I'm not surprised they can't. But I do know that when it decides to act up it is maddening. We just got back from a 1600 mile family trip and I'm ready to stick dynamite under this piece of junk.

Take it to the dealer and put two people in the backseat. It will make the drone sound. Mine did that after it was "fixed".

Instead of yanking out wires, try this bypass cable. Works great. Many on this forum use it (myself included).

Thanks, I've seen those mentioned on this thread and will probably give that a try if the dealer doesn't have any luck on this next scheduled visit. Do you think it made your cabin more noisy after installing? It seems as though the engineers felt the need to put an ANC system in these vehicles for a reason. Or did they just overthink this thing trying to win a car and driver contest or something?

It has certainly been frustrating because I'm 100 miles from my closest dealer.

I sincerely apologize for the trouble that you are currently dealing with, @tmrand. If it would be of interest, I would be more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf which will provide the dealership and yourself with an individual who will review your concern, then assist you and the dealership in exhausting all available resources to have the concern addressed and resolved. Our team is just a private message away to get the process started!

I personally can't tell the difference in cabin noise with or without the bypass cable in place, but in all honesty, I almost always have the stereo turned up because I mostly drive without any passengers.

Thanks Mark. Had it in there on Friday May 22nd. They finally got serious and hopefully fixed it. If the sound comes back I'll definitely be in touch.

My suggestion would be, to have “your people call my people”...and figure out the issue :) On a more serious note, the service rep you are working with, could give my service rep a call and ask for advice. I am sure Meaghan could provide your service guys with guidance... it took the previous dealer 5-6 tries before I got fed up and took my truck to a different place with different attitudes. I wish I had done this earlier, I would more likely still be enjoying the vehicle....By the way, I am surrendering it next week. RAM, with the help (more like a push) of my attorney has agreed to repurchase my truck! Will be looking to purchase something new, very soon!
Let me know if you are interested in contacting my service rep (located in Seattle) and I’ll provide the details. Thanks

A quick update: my vehicle has just been re-purchased from me by FCA, under the Lemon Law Rules. Got all my money back, including what I paid for car insurance, interest rate, attorney fees etc. What a nightmare it has been! But, At the end of the day, i walked away victorious...!!! Lol! Cheers everyone! Peace out!

Just so I understand, FCA bought the vehicle back because of the active noise cancellation? A problem that can be solved in less than a minute? I mean it takes longer to move the seat than it does to mess with the wires

No, it doesn’t. It didn’t in my case. 74 days in the shop within the first 16k miles for various things. The list is too long but it’s all here (I posted everything on this MB) My truck was a Lemon and I am extatic not having to deal with it any longer. Buying a new vehicle soon.

Hi,

New to the forum, I have a 2019 Ram that's a week old with 100 miles. Last night I turned the car on and as I put it into drive, there was a terrible loud, low pitched rumbling noise in the truck. I'm talking ear-piercingly loud. At first I thought it was engine related but as I tried to diagnose it sounded like it was coming from the car speakers. Is this an active noise cancellation malfunction? It was almost like it was taking engine noise and amplifying it throughout the entire truck. Turned it on this morning and had no issues. I called the dealer and they suggested I record or call them the next time I hear it.

Anyone heard of this before? It was so loud I literally had ringing in my ears last night and this morning.
Take it back to the dealer mine goes back next tuesday for replacement of the noise cancellation motors. It is a know problem with the 19's

My 2019 ram 1500 has a deep loud humming sound this happens to me driving at varius speeds on the interstate or in local traffic. I’m sure no dealer ship or service personnel would be able to find the problem. It will occur intermittently sometimes for several days at a time then stop for weeks. I had had about 6 or 7 occurrences and am concerned there may be an engine or drive train issue.

I had the same issue with the "booming" sound that came on all of a sudden. I tried to figure out if i had done anything thinking it was exhaust related but I did install new 6x9 speakers in the rear doors. I just removed those and put the stock ones back in and the sound is completely gone. It must be something with the noise cancellation system. Just fyi in case someone else put new speakers in as that could be the culprit.
same thing happened with me but i went back to the shop and they showed me everything was sealed perfectly.

We certainly understand why this would be concerning. Please do not hesitate to send us a private message if you are in need of any additional support while addressing this concern with your dealer. We are more than willing to get a case escalated on your behalf to a customer care specialist for additional assistance in having this resolved.

@Henrygrate @deanfx hey guys this has nothing to do with your transmission it’s a sound system issue do me a favor, go inside your truck and through Bluetooth play this video and crank up the volume it is a frequency that is making when the cylinders are deactivating to compensate the sound which is 38hz and I makes that rumbling sound please go inside your truck and play it you’ll know what I mean

Let me know what you think

I brought my truck in for its first service in June of '21 and complained about the rumbling sound at low rpms and while in eco mode. The technician said it's a known issue and said something about the exhaust valves aren't closing properly; but, there should be a TSB out to fix it and that it would require a reprogramming. Has anyone else been told this? If so, how long ago? I really want to get this fixed because it the annoys the hell out of me. I just got the truck last Dec; but, this is a deal breaker if they can't fix it soon.
