intermittent humming noise and vibration

And you guys are sure it is not the cylinder deactivation and MDS kicking in? Have you de-activated that and seen any change in the 'droaning' noise? When my MDS kicks in (Green eco light goes on), I think there is a belt activation of sorts (read about etourqe and this is one of its 'features') that kicks in and then the cylinders drop. My MPGs go up and I just idle foot it. Spitballing here, but just seeing if it is actually be design.

Not sure what the problem is but I can tell you....the humming/drone noise is very loud.....the door speakers vibrate significantly and it happens at about 1200 rpms when deaccelerating. If it is a normal noise....Ram should include ear protection for life on these trucks. I think the ANC is picking up the noise when MDS kicks in but....that's just an opinion. Taking the truck in next week....the problem has been escalated through Ram Cares. Hopefully....the problem will get fixed.

Going on a full year of dealing with this noise. Back and forth to the dealership, on the phone with FCA, reflashing ECU, crack your windows, turn on tow/haul mode, blah, blah, blah. FCA simply doesn't know what the problem is. I posted a short video on YouTube with more to come. You really cannot hear the noise very well unless you have speakers with a bit of bass. If you have this noise, good luck... I'll be talking to FCA Engineering AGAIN today.

Thanks!

Yours sounds similar, but deeper than mine. Could be the recording. Have you tried unplugging the ANC and then driving? Without messing with wires or anything, if you unplug the wide white connector from the amplifier/ANC under the driver's seat, this will completely kill the mics and I think maybe stereo as well. Try running it that way and see if you get similar vibration/humming.

Mine doesn't have eTorque.

Just a quick update on my vibration noise. Took it to the dealership twice now and on the first time they changed the drive shaft, afterwards they took it for a test drive and said fixed. As soon as I picked it up on the way home guess what, yep you guessed same noise! So on the second time they changed the back brakes because they searched the problem themselves and that is what they came up with. Problem with that is for some reason they searched squeaking noise, never did I mention to anyone about a squeak. And through everything I have been communicating with a Ram Care Representative who has been telling me that they have been talking to my dealership. The dealership has told me that no one has contacted them, which tells me that someone is not being altogether truthful. Anyway I am still fighting to get this situation solved. Thanks for all your comments.

Just bought a new 2019. Has 2000 miles now at 4 weeks old and this humming noise started today!! Not very happy about this!

Hi Dmfrench,

We certainly understand why this would be concerning. If you decide to address this with your dealer, please be sure to let us know via private message. We are more than happy to provide you with an additional layer of assistance for that process.

Update....yesterday.....I took truck for drive and the drone/humming noise was clearly there....the speakers were vibrating all at about 1100/1200 rpms when taking foot off gas. As suggested.....unplugged harness under drivers seat....took truck on same drive....bingo....no noise at all. By unplugging...you loose all your speakers including radio. Plugged back in.....on drive to dealership today....lots of noise. Explained all to dealership....they ran diagnostics…..got multiple codes in passenger door speaker. Had same code first time in but...at that time...they only reset the code. Code returned within a few miles. This time.....they are ordering a new speaker....speaker will be replaced on Monday. Not confident this will solve problem but it's a start. I have a Ram Care specialist tracking this repair as well. Just want problem fixed. I told both the specialist and dealer about the after market wiring harness fix that eliminates the ANC from the system.....neither was aware. I'll let all know.

Ok so I’m new to forum’s and I’m trying to find out if my issues are common and it seems that it is. Now I do have the vibrating / humming / drone noise that everyone else seems to have but I also have poor gas mileage sitting around 12.4-13.1 around town! Also I get a high pitch squealing noise at idle. I took the truck to two different dealers and they both told me it’s a normal noise? That just doesn’t seem right To me

My husband and I bought our 2019 Ram 1500 in May of this year. We bought it used with just under 13,000 miles and we realized very shortly after why it had been sold to the dealer. We started hearing the very loud humming almost immediately after purchase, and it's nauseating. We took it up to Sequoia National Park on our honeymoon, and the headaches and emotional toil this truck placed on us was UNREAL! You have to change the gears on every turn just to make driving bearable. Anything between 1000 and 1500 RPM causes the noise. We have heard it every single day since purchasing it.

Having to play with the wiring as other users suggest is just plain stupid. This is a $45,000 truck...it should run perfectly. We have told our dealership three times now about the sound, and they have done nothing. Just keep claiming there is no sound. I smell a class action lawsuit RAM, you might want to get on this.

When it happens put the all the windows down...if it stops the it's the ANC system. This has been discussed numerous times on here...I had the issue about a month after getting my new truck....brought it in and the did the software update TSB that has been mentioned either upthread or in other posts. I mentioned it to my service manage and also printed out a copy of it when I went. It fixed it and no further issues.

Well.....you can unplug the white harness under the driver seat and I bet the problem goes away. Unfortunately...this also disconnects all your speakers. There is an after market harness out the that by passes the ANC system. I have not gone there yet....the dealer is currently throwing parts at my problem. As for mileage.....not sure what to tell you.....your driving conditions impact mileage....I don't do much city type driving....we live rural....today I went about 100 miles mostly in the 50 to 55 range.....I averaged 21.3 mpg. Good luck.

I really hope that Mark from Ram Cares reads your post. I totally agree with you. This is a known problem....Ram should fix their problem...simple as that. Every dealer tries something different......they are guessing. Help Ram Cares......escalate this problem to the gods that be.

Told my dealer the same thing.....they said my truck had the software update. I'll bring it up again on Monday. Seems to me if this is the fix...every dealer in the country would know about it and use it. Maybe Ram likes wasting people's time after they buy a truck.

Make sure you find out WHAT software update they did...there may be more than one and/or maybe they did the wrong one. My service manager didn't even know about it until I showed it to him. Ask them to show you where on the repair order/worksheet that this is the one they did. The one you want is TSB 08-033-19 :

Thanks Ramhead….I will do as you say. I appreciate the information.

Well...well...well.....got the problem fixed today.....HOORAY!!!! Took truck to dealer....told them I had little confidence the speaker (see above) was the problem. Service writer wanted to follow the book....which meant...."we'll keep throwing parts at it until you go away." Obviously....that was not setting well with me. So.....me and the dealers lead electronic tech went for a ride and he could clearly hear the loud drone noise. He was extremely helpful and listened to all my concerns....he agreed the speaker was not the problem. I shared with him the information on this thread and even discussed the after market wiring harness. He took my truck in....did some diagnostics and found that my truck did have TSB 08 033 19 installed but there was an update to this TSB. The ANC module was updated from 6832240AG to 68312240AH. He also found a transmission update 21 002 19 REV. A for noise concerns transmitting from power train. He said this could possibly be contributing to problem. Bottomline…..these downloads were done in no time.....we took truck for ride and.....bingo.....all the drone noise is gone. The tech said problem should be solved and that...if it returns which he doubts.....they will replace ANC module. Drove home 65 miles.....a quiet....beautiful truck. YEEHAW!! BTW.....the escalation to RAM Cares was of no help. Only heard from their specialist when I called them. They were supposed to contact dealer....they never did. As I have said previously.....if RAM really cared.....they would solve this problem or at least....provide all dealers a good set of instructions to follow. Love the truck....love the tech to solved the problem.....and to all....Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I have a new 2019 1500 north addition 1600 miles same thing at low speed this is my 4th new ram and the worst one not happy.

Hi jerrybob,

I am terribly sorry to hear this update. Please know that I have just responded to your most recent private message on this. Please follow up with me there when you can!

Not to long purchased my 19 Ram 1500, same hum noises, made appt with dealer, wish had known before I bought vehicle.

Hey folks....the noise is annoying but it can be fixed. Have your dealers apply the updates mentioned in my earlier post. If the updates don't fix it.....have them replace the ANC module. That's what there TSBs says to do. Now that my noise is gone....love the truck.....it was a pain in the butt to get this corrected. Ram Cares was not helpful at all. I was assigned a case number and specialist who didn't do crap. Sorry about your issues. Have them do the updates. Good luck.
