Hi Mark
@RamCares I was able to fix this on my own thankfully.
I owned an Audi S5 ('18) for example and while I love this truck, the QC and attention to detail in a lot of places leaves a lot to be desired. Not up to the same standards as other brands, despite the price point being in line with some of the well specced luxury vehicles. It's honestly too bad there isn't the same level of attention and detail paid to the assembly of these trucks overall, as there was to the
design of interior of the Limited and Laramie editions etc. It's going to be hard to keep selling $80,000+ trucks with how many people mention reliability and QC issues as being synonymous with RAM & Chrysler products in general.
So far I've had to fix:
- There were a few rust spots on exposed areas of the rear axel and components I only noticed after delivery and acceptance of the new truck. Missing black paint, and rust spots is unacceptable. I ended up cleaning and using rust prep on the entire underside and components that required it, then covered in a few coats of POR-15. I can't imagine any other company getting away with this. If Audi, BMW or Mercedes delivered a luxury car with rust on the underside from the lot, the dealer would have a ****storm on their hands. Somehow RAM gets away with it, and the dealers will tell you to get lost if you bring it up and think it's ridiculous
- Horn cover arrived new, with a defect & what seemed like paint spilled on parts of the steering wheel even on the leather. Neither myself nor the dealer could get it off. Had that replaced under warranty for a brand new vehicle. Crazy.
- Squeaking panels in the rear I've now fixed
- The Start/Stop button was loose and rattling around in the dash cutout. Fixed that myself by tightening up the tolerances with some sticky-backed felt around the ignition cylinder
- Sporadic transmission / transfer case lurches
- A couple computer glitches so far where the auto-cruise control distance sensors freaked out and shut off, putting up a message on the dash saying to bring in for service
- After replacing the horn cover, and the vehicle was returned to me at the dealer, on the dash a message about the air suspension needing service showed up. Had to drive it back into the bay, with the dealer having to re-flash the computer
How's that for a vehicle that was delivered September 4th of this year, and has less than 3,000KM on it?
Pretty garbage quality if you ask me. Great feeling on an $80K truck I'll tell you. Somehow, I'm still enjoying it overall though ... I wonder what it is about people and domestic brands like these, that put up with more **** than buying a German luxury or other non-domestic brand?
This has to stop and these companies need to lose sales for this kind of quality control.
