Thanks Mark, I took my ram back to the service department at keowee dodge in Seneca SC and they have been working on it 4 days now and I hope the issue will be resolved, even if they have to put in a new dash. They gave me a loaner car (dodge journey) and it is far more solid then the ram, I travel the same roads with the journey and not a rattle can be heard, pleasant to drive. I'm hoping when I get my truck back it will be as solid as the journey.

Welcome to the world of the fifth generation ram!
Finally got it fixed, only get a little rattle when going over tracks or some big bump (I expect a little bit under those conditions) first took it to lake keowee where I bought it from and the service department was terrible (my review suggested firing the service manager). They had it 4 days and only fixed part of the rattle. After that, took it to benson and the service department there were very professional, returned calls and kept me informed on the progress. They had it a little over a week and had to replace several dash panels as well as tightening brackets and use foam tape. There was a rattle in my left ear coming from the door and they fixed that by replacing the door panel, the original one was defective

Hey guys,

I have a really annoying creak in my 2020 RAM 1500 Limited. I've found the source, which is the back-left pillar beside the passenger seat directly behind the driver. The whole pillar which houses a side airbag, and the seatbelt mount, is covered in a couple pieces of plastic. The other side of the truck in the rear has much more noticeably tight panels compared to this side.

Is there anything I can do myself, or should I bring this into service to have it fixed?

@RamCares - would you be able to help?

Ditto. Mine started rattling a couple of months ago.
Culprit seems to be the mechanism for adjusting the height of the seatbelt. Every little bump on the road makes it rattle.

Pretty positive my issue is the creaking of the plastic panels themselves, but a rattle would be even more annoying. Wonder if anyone has a service manual or can pull pages from that so I can fix it myself and use a bit of foam tape or something. I just took this thing in (brand new 1 month old truck) with another defect, and when I pulled it off the lot the bloody thing had an air suspension warning to take it back for service.

If this keeps up, I'll find a way to exchange the entire truck. $88,000 Limited edition. Nice quality.

Thanks Neurobit! You wouldn't happen to have a couple pages for the back pillars would you, with where to remove / unsnap the plastic covers? I would assume once you pop those, you may need new plastic rivets or something.

Here you go.
Also included an additional document for the fronts (b-pillar), trim in case you need it.

Cheers,

Awesome. Looks like I'd have to remove the rear seat(s) to get at and remove that panel ... arg, definitely not a 10 minute job.

I live in Anderson and getting anything done at "service providers" in the Anderson, Seneca, Clemson area is nearly impossible. Hardly any competent much less honest businesses here. Lol it is really that bad. Doesnt matter what service it is you need . you will be ripped off and the work either not done at all or done incorrectly...

Hi Mark @RamCares I was able to fix this on my own thankfully.

I owned an Audi S5 ('18) for example and while I love this truck, the QC and attention to detail in a lot of places leaves a lot to be desired. Not up to the same standards as other brands, despite the price point being in line with some of the well specced luxury vehicles. It's honestly too bad there isn't the same level of attention and detail paid to the assembly of these trucks overall, as there was to the design of interior of the Limited and Laramie editions etc. It's going to be hard to keep selling $80,000+ trucks with how many people mention reliability and QC issues as being synonymous with RAM & Chrysler products in general.

So far I've had to fix:
  • There were a few rust spots on exposed areas of the rear axel and components I only noticed after delivery and acceptance of the new truck. Missing black paint, and rust spots is unacceptable. I ended up cleaning and using rust prep on the entire underside and components that required it, then covered in a few coats of POR-15. I can't imagine any other company getting away with this. If Audi, BMW or Mercedes delivered a luxury car with rust on the underside from the lot, the dealer would have a ****storm on their hands. Somehow RAM gets away with it, and the dealers will tell you to get lost if you bring it up and think it's ridiculous
  • Horn cover arrived new, with a defect & what seemed like paint spilled on parts of the steering wheel even on the leather. Neither myself nor the dealer could get it off. Had that replaced under warranty for a brand new vehicle. Crazy.
  • Squeaking panels in the rear I've now fixed
  • The Start/Stop button was loose and rattling around in the dash cutout. Fixed that myself by tightening up the tolerances with some sticky-backed felt around the ignition cylinder
  • Sporadic transmission / transfer case lurches
  • A couple computer glitches so far where the auto-cruise control distance sensors freaked out and shut off, putting up a message on the dash saying to bring in for service
  • After replacing the horn cover, and the vehicle was returned to me at the dealer, on the dash a message about the air suspension needing service showed up. Had to drive it back into the bay, with the dealer having to re-flash the computer

How's that for a vehicle that was delivered September 4th of this year, and has less than 3,000KM on it?

Pretty garbage quality if you ask me. Great feeling on an $80K truck I'll tell you. Somehow, I'm still enjoying it overall though ... I wonder what it is about people and domestic brands like these, that put up with more **** than buying a German luxury or other non-domestic brand?

This has to stop and these companies need to lose sales for this kind of quality control.

Thanks @RamCares - this thing has the potential to be awesome, and I've already got my eye on the 2021 TRX to trade this thing in for if that turns out to be solid. Perhaps I should wait a couple years, and hopefully you guys continue on your goals (as I understand it) to improve quality.

The TRX looks like it's an amazing effort. If that truck comes off the lots with the same handful of QC concerns, it'd be a real letdown.

BTW, just watched a few videos out of curiosity on YouTube looking for factory tours between Ford and RAM ... hate to say it, but you can immediately tell the workers and factor setup in Ford for checking quality control on vehicles is easily recognizable even just in a 5 minute YouTube video. Ford has 3D scanners that checks the gaps and precise fitting between all parts, and pushes alerts to the assembly line halting it if even the tail light is slightly out of spec. The computer program then outputs the suggested cause or area of the part(s) which may be slightly out of spec, and helps assemblers obtain properly fitted parts.

I'd bet $100 RAM doesn't have that level of quality control in place. I watched a window go into a RAM truck, where the installers were chatting and laughing while barely watching the window hit the frame. Pretty obvious RAM needs to hire quality workers and implement a bit more technology for checking component fit and finish. Just my 2cents - love to see RAMs response to this Mark

Here you go. Compare this assembly line to anything RAM has. Sorry but the workers in Michigan are of an entirely lower class, not to mention the meticulous machinery and cleanliness & precision of the factory. Funny, considering RAM vehicles cost as much or more than some of the cars being assembled in the video:

It may be your passenger side seat belt receptor.I thought the same thing as you until I reached over one day and felt It hitting the center console.Super annoying,I have not tried any fixes yet though.
Had the same issue...fixed it with some peel and stick velcro...(the fuzzy side) on the side of the seatbelt receptor next to the console. Should also work by putting Velcro on the console where the seatbelt is hitting
