Installing a Mopar Trailer Brake Controller in a 2025 RAM 1500

My dealer installed the full kit as listed in the original post into my 2025 RAM 1500 Limited and can't get it to communicate. The service advisor is now saying that according to my VIN, my truck is not capable of having a trailer brake controller installed.(?) Not sure why they would sell me a vehicle with a factory class IV receiver and a 7 pin connector if there is no factory TBC possibility. Of course, I don't believe this and I'm coming here for verification. I have the 12" screen.

My guess is dealership error. We have seen it a few times. The module was communicating before.

Looking at the instructions that come with kit P/N 82219240AA, there is a note saying: Before ordering the Mopar Integrated Trailer Brake Module (ITBM) kit, it is necessary to check if the vehicle has both trailer brake module connectors. These connectors are located under left side of the steering column. Both connecters are 4 pin connectors. If both connecters are not present the ITBM kit cannot be added to the vehicle.
My truck has the 7 pin trailer connection next to the hitch. I also checked behind the rear seat and the module wiring harness P/N is 68601443AA. I do not see two 4-pin connectors under the left side of the steering column. Does anyone know what this note is about?

The 2 connectors are behind the head unit, bottom left. They used to be under the steering wheel

Here is what it looks like behind the head unit. There were two unused red connectors wrapped in electrical tape. One has 6 pins, the other 10 pins. Are these the ones that they are referring to? I'm not sure why the instructions mention 4-pin connectors. Thanks

Are you planning on doing this install yourself then having the dealer perform the sales code add and proxy alignment?

Read the OP.

If you have the correct cable coming out of the existing module, you’re good.
The 4 pin/steering wheel thing is 2019-2024 holdover info. The 2 connectors are for TBC and backup assist.

Hello,
This just bought a 2025 ram 1500 tradesman and need the controller installation. I have the 2 red connectors behind the console and the harness with the referenced number pn68618899AA at the seat bottom.
I'm assuming that the 10 pin red connector will plug into the controller
that will install into the console and the other pin connector is a leftover for another feature.
Does the new module replace the one in the back seat Or is it patched in another way? Or am I totally out
to sea!
Dealers want $850 around here and from what I see posted here I'll be lucky if they know what there doing.
After reading through this forum which is totally new to me this is where I'm at.
Any help is appreciated.

The module behind the seat is replaced, plugged into the existing harness. The switch is plugged into one of the 2 connectors behind the head unit. The other one is for trailer backup assist. Does that answer your question?

Sure does thanks so much. Seems pretty simple to me. Other than flashing the computer which I'll have the dealer do this shouldn't take long.
Doesn't figure why they claim 3 hours plus to do the job especially when their trained professionals.

Also, you need to remove the rear seat, that takes time

There’s been a lot of problems with installing a Mopar TBC in 2025 RAM 1500s. Dealers (a lot of them) don’t know because their parts guys don’t have the right information. The 2025 has a new CAN bus architecture which makes previous years’ TBCs incompatible.

In the 2025, the TBC Module is behind the rear seats. Depending on how your truck was built you’ll have one of 2 options to install a Mopar TBC.

(EDIT: These data and part numbers are for 12” screens, There is currently no part for 14.4”)

OPTION 1: If you have a cable harness coming out of the existing TBC module with a tag saying PN: 68601443AA (the part number tag for the harness can be seen from under the rear seats), you only need part numbers:
68569520AB: TBC Module
68618899AA: Switch
And for the dealer to add the sales code to your VIN and perform a proxy alignment. You can also verify the correct cabling if you look behind the space where the switch will go (take off the faceplate for your infotainment) and verify that there are 2 connectors back there.

OPTION 2: If you don’t have the cable with PN: 68601443AA installed, you’ll need the full kit along with getting it added to your VIN.

The full kit is PN: 82219240aa, which is on back order (as of 12/20/24), includes the above 3 parts - cable, switch & module.

EXTRA Information:
The 2025 RAM 1500 has 3 different TBC modules available.
The standard one is just trailer lights.
The one above is lights and brakes.
The third is for trailer lights, brakes and TPMS (NOT included in this post).

My hope, is that this will provide comprehensive answers for anyone looking to add a Mopar TBC.

My Big Horn’s TBC was successfully added using the first option.

So I don’t need the wiring harness then in my 25 big horn then , just module and switch ? The tag has the numbers you posted on wires going into the module ? First 2 pics are what’s on my truck and second two are what came in the kit!
