How to: Add Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane assist, FCW & Auto Hi-beam to Ram 1500

It’s never really been addressed, but another harness would need to be built for it. I would need you to look at some connectors to see if any/how much of the wiring for it is present.
Is there a 10 amp fuse present in F41 of the engine bay fuse box?
no to the fuse. looked at some diagrams from pro demand and the wire is ran from the fuse box but terminates in the connector for the headliner harness( on the left side of the dash cluster area)

I did add the steering wheel button as for the other module, I did not it seems to be more work than I was expected so I reverted back to cruise control. However, I have lost the cruise control.

I did not do a back up as I did not know anything about a back up at that time.

My cruise control was working fine with the new steering wheel button when I did the alpha OBD cruise control value to No and did ACC value to ACC stop and go. I ended up getting warning lights on my dash and no cruise control and no ACC was working. I reverted back to the original state however I have no cruise control. I got rid of all the warning lights on the dash everything is working fine just no cruise.Any suggestions?

Unhook the battery and leave it disconnected for a couple of minutes. solved my problem.

I'm sure these are ridiculous questions but I did do some quick googling and the results were as clear as mud. I have a '22 1500 Bighorn... So nothing fancy. I have the parking assist sensors and the truck does stop when it thinks I'm going to back into something.

So first question I really need the community for:
-My goal is self driving with comma 3x. I don't have ACC or any other upgrades. Is the wheel able to steer with just a software upgrade? I noticed a distinct lack of parts that would allow the car to move the steering wheel. I'm assuming all 2022 Ram 1500s have electric power steering and you just need the software to steer the car. But no wiring harnesses, sensors, other ******** that would mess that up?

Second, less important question:
-Is it likely that I have the ABS Module/HCU needed to get this done seeing as the brakes are most defiantly used by the parking sensors (accidentally tested many times). Or is it likely that I need to look up the existing part numbers and swap them out to eventually activate ACC/Lane sensing/etc?

The sensors you are talking about have nothing to do with ACC. On your first question, yes, all the 1500 Rams can steer but you will still need the required hardware.

On your second question, you will need everything from the first post. It doesn't sound like you have the DASM in the windshield. It became standard on 2023s and up. You tell by the windshield. Check the first several posts for the info.

steering is good to go, all 1500's have electric assisted steering. Mine had the emergency braking when reversing. the abs module and valve assembly are different and still had to be changed.

Been trying to track this down as well. I have the fuse in F41 but for the life of me I can't figure out where it goes from there.

Could you provide info or context on what you are talking about?

got everything all working today. while installing the plastic covers i noticed the windshield i got installed has lines for defrost like the back glass. what would be the process for hooking that up?

I apologize, I was trying to quote these posts referring to the windshield heating element for the DASM.

The following is to be used as a guide on how to install ACC, FCW, Lane Assist, Auto High Beam headlights and rain-sensitive wipers in your 5th Gen Ram 1500, also known as the Advanced Safety Group. I’ve also included a guide at the end of this document on how to install blind spot monitoring. Obviously, I cannot guarantee this will work on your truck, but I am confident it will. I was able to install all these features on my 2019 Ram Lonestar which originally came with an 8.4" Non-Nav Unit with Dual Climate control. I believe this can be activated on any 5th Gen, but I’m literally the first person to have done this (that I am aware of) so it’s possible there are unknown variables that will prevent activation. This install is for those that have experience with AlphaOBD and assumes you are familiar with basic terms and procedures. It is not advised to do this as your first project, but you are free to do as you want. I believe this to be a mostly complete guide, but I wrote this from memory after 8 months working on this project so some things might have slipped through the cracks. Big thanks to all those involved along the way.

The purpose of this thread is not to debate "if it's worth it" or to discourage others from spending their money how they want. Everyone has different opinions on this. I took this project on as a personal challenge to see if it was even possible and with a larger goal in mind than just these stock features.

So my truck has auto high beams, emergency breaking when backing, auto high beams and wipers. I have the 12 inch screen and the buttons for the lane exist has the spots on the screen just not the buttons themselves. Would that mean I just need all the associated buttons and just a reflash from the dealer?

The dealer won't do anything for you. And you need to refer to the second post for what you need.

it will be a blue and violet wire out of connector c2 on the bcm pin k8 shows it goes into connctor xy340a (i believe that is the headliner harness connector on the right side of the dash. behind the ac vent

Well, I went for it and had the ABS recall done, and so far everything is still working as intended. I did tell them I changed the ABS module, and the paperwork notes a mismatch. Fingers crossed, but seems to be good!!
Just checking in if anybody else has any advice on this recall update? My plan was to ignore it - but I now have a check engine light.. I reset the check engine light - hopefully it doesn't come back Code was U1818 - which my generic scanner and google don't identify. If the code returns I'll use AlfaBB next time and hope more informative.

I'm also do for an oil change soon - which I pre-paid for at the last service. An oil change is not worth losing my ACC over b/c I suspect they will force the recall but if the check engine light ends up being something serious I'm going to be stuck going to the dealership regardless.

(2024 1500 Laramie w/ 12" display. Added the ABS unit/module and switch on steering wheel - did NOT replace the 12" display with the version that has the ACC off button. Activation steps via AlfaBB. Has worked flawlessly w/ Comma3x for the 11 months since completed the mods.)

There are posts above about this including one from someone pretty knowledgeable about it. He explains all you need to know.

Thank you. I greatly appreciate it. I haven't had a chance to mess with it yet. Going to try for this weekend.

This is a very good question, and a good thing you brought it up!

***PSA***
Everyone that swapped out their ABS module for this mod MUST NOT GET THE RECALL DONE.
They will flash the recall according to your VIN, and it will revert the new abs module back to a non-adaptive cruise abs module firmware.
I think this is what happened to me. I installed a ABS module from a 2022 Limited into my Rebel and enabled adaptive cruise etc from Alpha along with your harness etc.
I did this mid 2024.
When I took truck in they flashed my ABS with the update.
It seemed like it also installed some other stuff I didnt have on my Rebel.

Now after a couple weeks it tells me to clean my front sensors and I get a loud squealing ring for about 2 minutes.???off and on a lot.
I dont think I have the front sensors on my Rebel??/
Anyway just saw this tread, and i ended up posting on a new topic.

My adaptive cruise and everything works fine after the flash, just get the error message about cleaning front sensors and ringing , no codes.

You need:
Steering wheel cruise switch
Windshield
DASM
Rear view mirror
Mirror covers
Mirror adapter
Abs module
HCU module
Mirror jumper harness 68358132AE (instead of building the DASM connector from scratch)

Hi, Tks; the harness is just plug and play? Or will need to do some modification?

It's sort of plug and play. All the information on it is in the PDF in the first post. You just need to plug it into the DASM side, but the other side needs to plug into the canbus block and power/ground.

Tks, but I do have the harness 68358132ae? Is the same connection?
