Grinding noise when turning to the right

Was gonna just leave it and deal with the issue but realized I spent a lot of money on this, my first truck,. Took it to the dealer and asked if a tech could ride with me. Right when I was going to give up the noise happened. The tech drove it and we were able to cause the issue numerous times. He even found that it happens on a slow left turn like a u turn. They replaced the rack & pinion. Just took the truck back and I'll report if the issue returns. For everyone having this issue, I'd recommend having a tech drive with you. Good luck.

sounds like the same issue i'm having ... 16000 miles and it's prob been happening for a few months. when i turn left or right kind of sharp but not too sharp, and there's any incline or decline on the turn, the steering wheel vibrates abruptly and in a very brief manner. Kind of feels like the vibration you feel when you're in a car that has that "lane assist / warning" feature. Mine is in the dealership service dept today. i asked if they had many of these reports and the tech said no.

Hey Mark ... I called FCA customer care and was assigned a case # Your case number is:76481675

TBH this has been a pretty poor experience in terms of working with FCA Case Management. The case mgr called me one time and asked me to return her call... which I did multiple times and never connected. Then she called me back and said she was closing my case. We never spoke. I called the main line again and asked for a new case manager Mon 6/29... they said I had to talk to my current case manager before anything could be done. I still haven't heard from her, it's Thu 7/2. I called again today and couldn't connect with her again. FYI the people at FCA that can read the notes in my case say that the case was closed because FCA is investigating the issue and will provide service updates at a future date. That's not really an acceptable resolution for something that feels like it is creating unsafe operating conditions. i.e. my truck's steering issue continues to worsen. this is not longer a "slight vibration" during "tight right turn" issue. My truck's steering wheel vibrates harshly and consistently getting longer iterations during any right turn. This needs to be addressed. Thanks for considering Mark.

Has anyone else have this successfully resolved? I'm 2000 miles from home I can't really drop it off anywhere. It has gotten worse since I started my trip it now does it a little on left turns but really bad on right.
I took it to a dealer in Idaho and told them to check it out, they said there wasn't an issue. Can't really trust they even looked at it since they said my dif fluid should look like anti-freeze... not kidding they had a vial of antifreeze and said I need to have my dif fluid changed because it didn't look like that.

Only thing I can recommend is to spend the time and tell the service manager that you want a tech to ride with you until it happens again. I had a vibration issue and twice they shop said they couldn't replicate customer complaint. Finally went 1st thing in the morning. Asked for a tech to do a ride along. Within 10 mins of driving around an empty parking lot the tech said "oh. There it is. I hear it. Let me drive so I can verify. " Had the rack and pinion replaced. But took 3 trips for them to find it. Good luck.

I took it in and they couldn't recreate it, so I did the ride along. They ordered a new rack and pinion and a new backup camera which is another issue I couldn't get a different dealer to resolve.

I just wanted to update and confirm this was the issue. I no longer have the grinding or slipping feeling when turning.
My build date was 2 or 3 months after the grinding steering TSB range.

Would you happen to know which TSB addressed the grinding. I looked through the list and didn't see anything.

The TSB was for " less than desired steering wheel response and/or a clunk feeling when turning" Now that I have a new rack the steering response improved tremendously I didn't realize it was an issue since it was like that since I bought it.

I don't think they can just say "there's no known fix". If they hear/feel the issue. Your warranty is supposed to guarantee they get to the bottom of it. The hard part is usually getting them to admit there's an issue. That took 3 dealers for me.

My dealer is willing but they will need an OK. Right now they won’t do anything because FCA says there is no real fix for it.

I was tired of this indecision and lack of ownership from either manufacturer or dealership. I traded the 2019 Ram Unlimited in for something that I’ve had a history of dependability with.

POSSIBLE FIX TO PROBLEM

I've had the exact same issue since 10k miles, and currently have 34k. The dealer said RAM is aware of the issue, but there currently is no fix. It actually got embarrassing to have someone ride with me and ask what that noise was every time I turned right.

So here's the interesting thing. The factory Good Year tires are horrible, and I think most people on here have recognized that. I've been waiting as long as possible prior to winter for replacement, but I literally had zero tread in the center of two of them and needed new ones now. My tires are rotated every 5k, and they are not overinflated. Yesterday I had Discount Tire install a new set of Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S tires (285/45R22). As soon as I drove away and made my first right turn, I knew the problem was the tires...the noise was gone! The true test was coming to work this morning and driving through the parking ramp. This is where the noise (and grinding sensation) was the worst. There was zero noise from every turn I made.

Hopefully this helps and is the same problem others are having. I know at least one other person wrote about the noise going away after having the tires changed.

I am having the same issue with my 19 Ram Laramie, grinds when making slow right hand turns, I thought either tires or something in the power steering or rack and pinion. Have a service appointment in a couple weeks.
