Exhaust Manifold Leak

I have confirmation that my drivers is now cracked. Had the passengers replaced less than 10k a go. I hope the new one's don't crack as easily. I will be under warranty till 100k so if they do they will be replacing several sets. Seems like they should be able to design headers that don't crack. Never had this problem on any other vehicle.
Very sad this is happening. As I stated before, if this happens to me out of warranty I promise you I won't be putting OEM headers back on.

early model Wranglers with the 3.8 had the same issues with the factory manifolds. I "patched" mine with Quick Steel ThermoSteel high temp metal repair. Worked amazing and held up for 50,000 miles then I sold the Jeep.

Good to know, thanks for sharing.

Are owners with failed manifolds driving lots of short distance trips? I wonder if there is a correlation. Not that this would be an excuse for these failures.

I drive 60 miles one way to work everyday. No short trips. All highway. Still cracked manifold at 9,000 miles.

I'm at 23k and driver side cracked on mine. Built 1/20 on the door. Dropped it off today and said I'll get it back before Sunday. He also told emission equipment are under 60k warranty. Also having my transfer case and axles serviced, a month ago I had a "transfer case overheat warning limp mode" on the dash light up pulling my trailer out of the pasture. Hopefully my clutch packs aren't gone 🙏.

I got tired of my manifold leak without dealer support to replace them. I just ordered the AFE shorty headers and I plan to wrap them with manifold wrapping.
Please don't wrap them.
304 SS will rust and wrapping makes this worse, plus it could cause the headers to crack.

Get them ceramic coated if you do anything.

Im not too worried about surface rust. I didn't buy the headers for looks but for function. My research to date shows that when wrapped properly(1/4” overlap only) that this will reduce the chances of making the metal brittle. Ceramic coatings don't provide as much heat protection under the hood from what I've read. With all the plastic in modern engine bays, I want to keep it as cool as possible.

Do you have experience with wraps and coatings? This is my first set of non-oem exhaust manifolds. My old Mercedes never had such issues and my Cummins was just fine in stock form.

I've had headers in the past, but never wrapped them.

Well the afe headers come with heat shields. If the wraps are not necessary i can always return them. I just don't want to increase the under-hood temps. If stainless headers radiate the same as cast iron, no big deal.

The AFE Longtubes I put on last year aren't wrapped or coated and have been fine.
Last summer I did two trips of 1600 kms and had no heat issues.

So add me to the list. I developed the tick several months ago and then about a month ago I recognized an exhaust leak. Went by the dealership and had them look up both left and right exhaust manifolds and gaskets... all backordered till tuesday(supposedly). So made arrangements to drop it off Tuesday. Bet it's there for awhile, Because I also want the air conditioning tsb done. 16,000 miles.

So apparently the dfw area parts hub is way backordered for either side and the ETA is undetermined meaning who knows when... and although the dealership is nice enough to loan me a vehicle till it gets repaired, I literally could be looking at a month or more if ever. And I will be damned if I am going to pay for a $70+k truck that I cant drive and that cant be fixed. WTF RamCares... what do you say about that? I am honestly thinking about trading it in on a non-Stallantis product.

As soon as the AFE headers arrive, I am getting them ceramic coated. Local specialty shop charges about $265 for shorties, two coats on outside, one coat on inside. Wraps may be ok, but I am looking for a long-lasting solution. (y)

Sorry to hear about this. Please DM us if you would like a case made and escalated for parts assistance!

25k miles on my '19 5.7 hemi. Heard a clunk while driving. Next start sounded like exhaust was going to rattle off. Dealer fixed it same day under warranty. Said it was broken exhaust manifold bolts. How worried should I be about potential future manifold cracking? 90% of my trips are the 15min 35mph road variety.

I noticed in that video, on the box for the new manifolds that the part number was the same as the original manifolds. As many here already know, mopar updates their part numbers with revised letters like 68365738AA to 68365738AB to 68365738AC and so on. Maybe there was a batch of bad castings, but I doubt it considering the ages of the trucks affected.

Maybe the castings originated in Wuhan? :p
Kidding aside. You’re right. Seems there’s no redesigned part as of yet.
