ETorque Issue

I found out from the dealer today that no one is coming out to the shop. They are "working with the dealer techs to assist". I'm not at all confident that the FCA experts are doing anything more than replacing parts using trial and error. Based on what I've been told and what I've seen I'm not impressed.

Well you can make my case the 5th. 7000 miles and I got the dreaded check engine light and my etorque wasn't charging. Chrysler is giving the mechanics the run around trying to get it fixed. Truck has been in the shop for 17 days now with zero progress. I can't believe how they completely disregard the customer.

I feel your pain. I'm into week 3 with no truck. A RAM Care Specialist opened a file with FCA but that didn't do anything to expedite things.

OK, I have a quick update for everyone... Got a call from the dealership today telling me my truck was ready to be picked up. Talked to the service advisor, who said they replaced the battery pack. I asked him if they were sure they fixed the problem this time, and he assured me they had. I got in the truck to drive off, and literally didn't make it 30 feet before the engine light came back on. Are you F'ing kidding me?!?!?! I put it in reverse and parked it back on the service drive, and they came out with a code reader. This time it is a different code, but still related to the eTorque system.

This is beyond frustrating!!! I've had the truck for five weeks, and it has spent half of that time in the frickin' shop. It has 660 miles on it, and probably 100 of those are from the dealership driving it to test it out. I want out of this truck and into one with a normal 5.7L Hemi.

I feel for you. I am worried the same thing will happen to me whenever I finally get to pick mine up. Next week is one month in the shop. I have no confidence it will be fixed.

Thanks. It looked good on paper. 20/20 hindsight big mistake.

It will be taken care of hopefully soon. It is a revolutionary truck, better than anything out there design wise, great ride and nice interior, it skows we are willing to pay good money fot the best, so please deliver the best

No argument that it looks better than any truck out there and rides better FCA just needs to get their s#@% together with quality control and some of the mechanical issues.

Have you, or anyone who's had eTorque issues, been successful in getting your truck fixed? Does FCA even have a clue as to what is happening? I ask because Monday will make three weeks mine has been in the shop this go around. It was in for five days the first time.

Part of me hopes it will take until next Friday to get it working, because that will be the magic 30 day mark and the Texas Lemon Law will kick in.

I should be picking mine up next Thursday. I'll keep you posted.

Just in case you are not familiar with the fuse box in the engine bay, both Rams I’ve owned had fuses improperly seated. First thing I did when I got the truck is push in all the fuses. I’m not sure if that’s in anyway related to your problem but with etourqe configuration relaying even more on already a complex electrical system it can only help.

Good info. Kinda disturbing that you should you have to worry about fuses not be properly seated on a $67,000 vehicle. My how times have changed in the auto industry.

I hear you, in addition, I checked all the connectors I could find...few were not all the way in.

Thanks for the info. This is what I love about this forum. Knowledgeable people sharing good info and their experiences which in turn helps others.

Oh boy. Prospective new owner here, appreciating all the info being shared. I'm currently in a Hemi Durango and considering the move to a Hemi Ram... with eTorque. I'm not so sure about checking the eTorque option box now. Dam shame.

At the risk of sounding sexist, which I don't think I am, I'll say it anyway. My understanding is the Chief Engineer for low-voltage electrification of Ram eTorque is a nice lady by the name of Gay Kent. As an engineer myself, with double digit decades in the field, I've worked with many female engineers over the years and none of those experiences left me with a feeling of confidence.

It's not that women aren't smart, they are, it's that the work of engineering requires qualities that are more prevalent in men than women. You need to be confrontational when something isn't done right, you need to communicate perfectly directly, to the point, and immediately, you need to have great clarity of thought and focus on your work, etc.

Idk, maybe such thoughts indeed make me a sexist, but more accurately ,imo, is that my view might be skewed from past experiences with female engineers. I hope this is the case, because an alternative is that the technical side of the eTorque program was headed by a person, who, quite possibly wasn't the best person for the job. I guess we'll see how big or small of a problem this turns out to be.

Would be interesting to know what other programs Ms. Gay Kent headed and how successful they were.

OK, so I finally picked up my truck after 23 days in the shop (this time around). They said they replaced some sort of wiring harness, but couldn't tell me which one because the tech was out that day and he hadn't completed the paperwork. The service rep seemed to think it was a known issue, since their STAR engineers supposedly knew exactly what it was. I guess that confirms my fears that they pulled the trigger too fast and went to market with a product that wasn't ready for prime time. It's a damn shame too, because otherwise it has potential.

So far, I haven't experienced any other issues, but I work from home and have put less than 50 miles on it. Will update if something happens.

Merry Christmas!

Hopefully you're done with etorque issues. Got mine back yesterday after 5 weeks and so far so good.

Awesome news. Your experiences are valuable to read... I hope you guys will update this thread on developments.

As a side note to the drama, do you remember the ignition switch scandal at GM a few years back? This faulty switch caused engines to turn off while driving and resulted in the deaths of over 120 people. GM sat on the issue for a decade and only took action after being sued by the family of one of the deceased.

Guess who was General Director of vehicle safety at GM at the time? Gay Kent... the same lady who is now Chief Engineer of FCA eTorque. It turns out Ms. Kent was one of a handful of executives FIRED by GM. How in THE hell could FCA think it's a good idea to hire someone with such a devastating blemish on their resume, and put them in a leadership role?

Un-****ing believable!!

I do remember it and yes its nuts that FCA hired her after being fired by GM. Cant make this stuff up.

Purchased my 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie on 9-11-19.
I wanted a silver laramie with Sport Appearance Package, Level 1 Entertainment Package, and a moon roof. In order to get this configuration without waiting several months I had to get the etorque engine. Well I should have waited....and not got the new eTorque engine.

I drove the vehicle around for a week without issues. This weekend a warning symbol came on for the eTorque changing system. Later that day it stopped working all together and my engine light came on. Soon after that the engine and battery light were on. Now my vehicle is at the dealership waiting to be fixed. Less than two weeks old and under 700 miles. View attachment 5210View attachment 5211
Same issue only my 19 Rebel, in dealership now and they are clueless. Was it fixed or Lemon Law??
