E torque alternator.

Talked to my service tech this morning, she tells me it's scheduled for a Feb 10th delivery.
Reading this thread makes me doubt her, hoping she's right.

Yep. If every po’d owner said “never again” to every vehicle brand, there would be nothing to buy/drive. Even mighty Toyota has been having big problems the last couple years.

Yea Toyota had a cult following for a while. Glad that's pretty much broken up now. I had a Tacoma... Spent a ton of money overlanding it, never really saw the big deal.

Someone said "at least you can hate it forever" lol. Just not true anymore. It's all a gamble and they are all pretty much shooting themselves in the foot with price increases (even though profits continue). Consumers have definitely lost loyalty because it means nothing now days. Smarter marketing is working on it though, but it's just that... Marketing and not actual quality. So it's from one brand to the next with no end in sight.

Has anyone actually pulled a dead MGU apart to identify what these bearings are that are failing? I've replaced a fair number of bearings in my life and it's not rocket science. Maybe there's a solution to service the mechanicals? I'm still driving my RAM so I'm not in position to pull it apart.

It's frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a problem with the system itself (at least in my case) - just crappy, cheap bearings. No excuse for stuff like that.
I’m in the same boat as others on this thread, dead MGU with no eta on replacement.

Yes, I pulled and split the MGU and replaced the bad bearing. In my case it was the rear bearing (6003 double sealed bearing). Damage was caused to the resolver by excess shaft orbiting but the unit is now quiet and running while I wait for warranty replacement. I couldn’t be without my truck for months. I created an account on the forum to try to help others with the same issue.

Well, that is great news. It would be a big help to the forum if you’d write up a “how to, how I did this” so, I know there are many of us, that would just rebuild it. Too bad dealerships just don’t do it for us.
Plus, list the bearing source/part number and if any special tools were needed.
It’s good in this case, just repairing/replacing the bearing, doesn’t need to have the dealer reprogram the MGU.

I just started hearing the noise that makes my truck sound like a battery operated golf cart. It is pretty loud (I can hardly hear the exhaust sounds that I used to love to hear). Is this what the issue is? I guess I need to get it to a dealership and get the recall work and this done, if so.
I checked first if the sound was matching the RPM (changing pitch with engine RPM), then I checked where it was coming from (top of the engine). If your sound matches these two checks, I'd take it in.

That would be great if he would write up a how to ( rebuild MGU ) im sure in the future there is gonna be alot more as years and miles get greater.

I have a 2020 ram 5.7 bought new. My alternator has failed and no hope in sight. Only a dealer can install it apparently, and the dang part isn’t available on back order. Used ones if you can find them are not much cheaper than the new ones. I’ve owned three different ram trucks and this one will be the last. What’s a truck worth that will not run and can’t get repaired. It sure leaves a sour taste in your mouth paying on a vehicle that is useless. Anyone have any ideas where to get on. I’ve been on back order since November.
I'm dealing with the same problem as apparently 5100 others as that's the total number on backorder the parts manager told me at the dealership with no idea when they'll be receiving them.....$50000 paper weight currently and no idea what to do

Not to bust your bubble but they'll just keep kicking the date down the road as that's what keeps happening to me and I assume everyone else....keeps moving 7-10 days at a time and I'll call and they move it again....sorry

Will do. I didn't want to write it up on my phone, but will try to type out how I did it. I will start a new thread on Etorque bearing replacement.
