E torque alternator.

I have a 2022 5.7 Etorque , it should be covered on warranty for 8years 80k that includes MGU ,battery pack .

Right now he's hearing 1-2 months.
That's certainly a better picture than what my SM told me (he said he's had folks on the backorder list for months; back to July or August). Fingers crossed. MGU sounded really angry when I started it this morning.

@GM26J
If I’m not mistaken, yours should be covered for 8yr/80K miles, as should the 48V battery and related items.
Federal emissions warranty… but that doesn’t help you today.. just future info…

**derp. I didn’t go to page 2, repeating info…sorry**

Im hoping Kuniskis Being back in charge that they can give us a solution to replace the Etorque system with either a delete kit or something to make it less complicated to ease our stress in the future . Yeah its a long shot lol

It is not looking good for a replacement, mine has been in the shop for a month and a half, was told the 29th of January but received an update of February 9th now but then told, don't count on it. RAM is no help. Since I am out of the factory warranty they will not cover any loaner or rental, the extended warranty covers 5 days. This will be the last RAM/Dodge product I will ever buy. What pisses me off is all of the trucks being made and shipped that sit on the lot.

Good idea on filing with NHTSA. Might get a recall, that would be nice.

Has anyone actually pulled a dead MGU apart to identify what these bearings are that are failing? I've replaced a fair number of bearings in my life and it's not rocket science. Maybe there's a solution to service the mechanicals? I'm still driving my RAM so I'm not in position to pull it apart.

It's frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a problem with the system itself (at least in my case) - just crappy, cheap bearings. No excuse for stuff like that.

I love my truck its been fine so far ,but im worried about the future with the etorque mgu . Someone on here has swapped just the electronics that failed and used the original mechanical parts. Think they found used one on ebay.

I have not torn into a MGU yet. I am looking for a core that I can open up. The bearing parts I found on Facebook group.

I don't think there is much negative bias to the forums just acknowledgement and warnings to others on threads like these with people reporting similar issues. How many owners are truly affected, we may never know. But if you are someone having an issue, it can definitely ruin the experience and given what we know about Stellantis, isn't too hard for most people to point the finger and say "never again".

Do you know if all the MGUs are similar/same?
I texted a couple friends who own junk yards, asking if they have any 2019 or newer Ram Etorque MGUs… I’d be happy to ship/donate it to you if they have anything in their yards, but are all the MGUs the same?

I get it..it’s under warranty…and drivers should be able to take advantage of that.
Back in 2021 or 22, I forget, I waited several weeks for air ride compressor for my 15 Limited.
I’ve had a 3rd car in my family since…just in case.

My understanding is that the 3.6 and 5.7 engines have a different MGU. Not confirmed, but I've seen the following part numbers:

V6: 68452771AB
V8: 68623194AB

Also, it does appear that the electronics for the MGU are sandwiched on top of the alternator, so if the bearing noise is from those alternator bearings, then separating the two pieces and servicing/replacing the alternator should be a viable option and not require any re-programming.

If I'm reading the moparwholesalestore.com info correctly, the alternator is 04801769AD which shows as used from 2010 - 2024 in most of the 5.7 and 6.4L models (1500, 2500, 3500). There seems to be plenty of these around used and I just found one with 46K miles on LKQ for $79 with free shipping I'll purchase and tear down. May not solve my problem, but I'll get a look at the innards of this alternator and may learn something.

I recall reading a post where someone did exactly what some of y'all are saying by replacing the lower half, just the alternator. If your MGU is good, you can just swap it out and no need to go to the dealer. I believe they also said that if the MGU was bad, that you could not use a used MGU from a donor truck, as it you could not program another vin to a used one.(So guessing it's a one time use). I'll look for the post but I was curious one day and went down that rabbit hole one day.

Those MGUs that are under the 8/80 warranty though would be required to go to the dealership, yes?

I am willing to pay for shipping.

Yep. If every po’d owner said “never again” to every vehicle brand, there would be nothing to buy/drive. Even mighty Toyota has been having big problems the last couple years.

I just started hearing the noise that makes my truck sound like a battery operated golf cart. It is pretty loud (I can hardly hear the exhaust sounds that I used to love to hear). Is this what the issue is? I guess I need to get it to a dealership and get the recall work and this done, if so.
