Backup Camera Centerline

After I sent my dealer pics of three trucks on local lots with the surround view cameras, 12” screen, and a centerline, the service manager surprised me by ordering the latest version of the CVPM for my truck.

Long story short, they had the truck for a full day...and now I’ve not only lost all of my guide lines, but surround view as well. Grr.

Back it goes on Tuesday, when the field service rep will be onsite to take a look-see. Worst case, they just need to get all of my original features working again. Wish me luck!

Question for those with centerline:

I have an extremely tight fit for the garage (96"). Would you feel comfortable drawing a line down the middle of your garage and using the centerline as your guide? Stay on the centerline, and you will know you are in the middle? Is it that accurate? Or is it easy to get off the angle a bit?

I'm replacing a 2003 Tundra, so this is the first vehicle with a backup cam I will have owned (If it ever gets here.....)

Why wouldn't you use the outer guide lines to judge how far you are away from things?

Do you not have the 360 camera set-up in your Limited? That is all you'll ever need and works beautifully!

This also stops the 360 cam from working (at least on the one I was test driving). So once I pass through the door with the cab, I'm worried about a slight slide on ice, or a micro adjustment of the wheel causing me to kiss the side of the garage.

I'm sure once I get it and start playing around, it will all be a lot easier for me to visualize!

I understand what you're saying, but the backup camera view also has lines that run on either side, framing out the "space" you're backing into.

Putting this together with the information you all have provided on this and other threads, it looked like a simple update (swapping out the CVPM) would add this feature to my truck. Alas, this was not the case. My experience was as follows:

Day 1 (outlined above): A newer version of the CVPM was installed. The truck was in the service bay all day, as programming proved unsuccessful. This resulted in the loss of surround view and active guide lines.​

Day 2 (today): The FCA field service technician was onsite, which we thought would be helpful. Instead, he chastised the dealership service manager for attempting this update and (they say) made the dealership eat the cost of the part and technician time. My original CVPM was reinstalled, restoring the surround view and active guide line features. No centerline is present.​

I appreciate that the service manager was interested in helping me out and was willing to give this update a try, but I'm now in the same camp as @Jus Cruisin - it's time to leave well enough alone.

WOW this is crazy. When the dealership attempted to flash my existing CVPM I lost Surround View and active guide lines. I had to drive around for a month until the new part came in and after installed all was good. Sounds like the dealer jacked up the new module.

Well mine is at Huffines in Lewisville currently and they are replacing that module to get my centerline so I hope I don’t have the same issue as you!

I totally agree. I am going to live without the centerline. I’m not risking all of the potential headaches that may develop after swapping the module.

Same camp as you. No centerline and after closely following all this, I'm just going to live with it and not risk the headache.

Same here. My f150 had the centerline and it always obscured my trailer enough that I could not actually see if my ball was directly beneath the hitch. No such issue with my RAM since there's no centerline. I guess I'm one of few that prefer not to have it.

I'm sorry but that is TOTAL BS. It was the Ram rep that told my dealer to replace it. All of them should have it, you paid for it! I actually use mine so I wouldn't take no for an answer. Also my dealer had no issue swapping it out and apparently programming it. I would ask for that reps name and give him a call or complain to corporate!

The Ram Rep I chatted with confirmed to me that all rams should have it, and that is why they added it to all of the manuals for all models. Other features in the manual distinguish between "If equipped" etc, but the Centerline does not.

Great to hear! I have a Grand Cherokee loaner because my truck has been in the shop for a few weeks for maintenance and some warranty stuff. The Jeep has the centerline. After driving it for almost a month I think I’m holding off on getting the centerline. I find it a bit distracting. Just MHO.
