Apple CarPlay help

First time I used CarPlay my whole screen locked up...for many days. Just now (8 months later) had the courage to plug phone back in....no dice on the CarPlay. Just got truck back from having TSB done for bad body mounts (lots of squeak and creaking). Not stoked that I just found out about another update to bring truck in for. How about they plug trucks in and do updates automatically, frustrating......

CarPlay worked this morning, this afternoon does not work.....What's up?

Can anyone update any fixes? I've tried the RAM/Memory clearing thing on my iphone and got it to work but now Carplay will only work every once in awhile. USB ports dont recognize the phone or thumb drives for music either but ALWAYS charge the phone.

6 calls to uConnect and they never heard of this issue. I really don't want to take a truck with under 500 miles back to the dealer and waste a day.

I believe the workaround (until a fix) is to plug in phone before starting the engine.

Cheers,

I wish that was a workaround for mine but it's not. My thumb drive isn't recognized most of the time either so it's got to be a uConnect issue.

I just posted this on another conversation.
I just had the same issue on a new 2018 2500 I just bought. Dealer was ready to order a new radio until they found a app in the APPS screen that is labeled Projection manager. You have to set it to mirror iPhone screen and then CarPlay will work. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for the tip, but it does not make a difference. Mine has been turned on since I got the truck. I just confirmed and it’s still set to mirror.

Cheers,

Well my 12 system. Hasn’t worked since day one. 4+ months now.

This week my friend plugged his iPhone X, the same phone I use with same cord that I’ve been using. CarPlay initiated and then after about 3 mins all the sudden it lost connection. I plugged mine it after and no go. I wiggled and wiggled the usb plug and all the sudden it worked. But further tries were unsuccessful. I think I have a bad hub. 2nd dealer appt on Tuesday with a laundry list of items. As I’ve said before. My last Ram once the 3/36 is up if not sooner. Dealership experience absolutely awful. I’m sticking with said dealer, because my star cases are open and if I switch dealers the star case starts all over again.

I’m thinking it’s gonna have to go back into the dealership. The usb is charging but it’s not showing as something is plugged into it. Kinda sucks but I’ve bought new apple certified usb cables. “A” cable and “C” cable, neither worked. Tried plugging my wife’s phone into it and that didn’t sync to CarPlay either so to the dealership I go. Thank you guys for all the help and advice! I truly appreciate it all.
Was the dealer able to fix it I am having the same problem

Same issue I had. The had to order the media hub for both front and rear console. Remember USB 3 is in the rear and it is also a CARPLAY enabled port

I have CarPlay after 5 months of ownership... new media hub as well. They refused to replace or fix my uneven window trim on all doors, not the dealer, but STAR. As that is the way it came from the factory. POS response if you ask me and more poor quality in an overpriced Ram.

Did the new media hub fix the issue?

Yes, CarPlay works and it charges as it should vs charging - not charging. As if you unplugged the cord and plugged it back in.

So,
Like a lot of people, my USB stick with MP3s was not recognized half the time and my Apple Carplay was losing connection off and on. I found out that my USB stick needed to have all the MP3 files in one directory and then Uconnect found all 2028 songs. I could even shuffle, search, sort, etc. I forgot who it was that had made the recommendation about the Anker USB C to Lightning Cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H24PJGP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, but it is working. First, I deleted all phones from Uconnect/media hub and the Uconnect from my iPhone. As soon as I plugged my iPhone 6s Plus back it, CarPlay came right on and has worked every time since then. My USB is recognized every time also. I am not sure if it was that I had two type A USB items plugged in at the same time or what, but having one USB type A plugged in and one type C plugged in seems to work for me.

Mine did too today; I unplugged and plugged a few times to no avail. Checked the cable, it’s original Apple in good shape. Rebooted the phone, no help. Disabled then enabled in the phone settings, no change. Deleted profile in truck settings and setup again, no help.

Shut off the truck, came back an hour later and now it works. Weird but fixed, at least until it happens again... ???

Any luck with yours?

I had a similar issue a couple months back with the backup camera. I though it was dead for sure. The next day, it worked like normal. Stupid software gremlins.

Mine has been glitching like this for last few months. I went in yesterday for my first oil change and recalls, so I had them order me a media hub. We shall see in a couple of weeks when it comes in.

Side note. I have a few other gremlins: Radio locks up sometimes, have to disconnect battery to shut it off. Parking sensors go off randomly and then say wipe sensor. Rear brake assist applies the brake randomly for no reason when in reverse. So I told the dealer these issues and that they were sporadic. When they returned the vehicle they said “couldn’t reproduce customer issue”. All the problems I mentioned seem to have a TSB associated with them. Doesn’t the dealer look that up somewhere when someone comes in with a problem? Now I will have to go back and waste another day. Maybe I should go in with the TSB to show them? Anyway, back on thread.
