Anyone having any luck with finding a permanent solution? CarPlay didn't work for me the day I took delivery of my truck, then a few days later it started working out of the blue, and for the past few days it hasn't worked at all.

I've tried different iPhones, Android phones, different cables, purchased new cables, turned off/on the phone, unlocked before/after plugging in the phones and starting the truck, removed the bluetooth profile and readded it to my phone, etc etc etc.

I'm out of new things to try, and it really pisses me off that I bought this truck, one without built in navigation, after I was told the CarPlay would work for me. I really wish I would have bought a different truck, one with built-in NAV.

So I found the following thread on this website:
https://5thgenrams.com/community/threads/apple-carplay-will-not-work-now.2603/page-2

The thread mentions a couple of potential "fixes". I tried both of them at the same time, and now my CarPlay is again working.

The two things I did were to:
1) Push and hold the power button until the "swipe to shut off" message appears, and let off the power button and press and hold the Home button for 5 seconds or so. Evidently that's for clearing cache, etc.
2) After getting inside my truck, before pressing ANY buttons on the truck, I plugged in my phone, then started the truck.

After plugging in my phone, I got a message on my phone saying something like "unlock to use device". After starting the truck, I unlocked my phone and CarPlay started up for the first time in several days.

Also, for the first time in several days I was using my bluetooth ear pods when I did the things above. Not sure if that has anything to do with anything, but thought I'd mention it in case the 2 things above stop working.

Has anybody’s gotten a chance to figure out what’s cousing this? My apple car play just flat out stopped working this is beyond frustrating! I tried everything. My wife’s iPhone my dad iPhone every single family member iPhone and nothing! So I tried to connect a usb thumb drive with music in it and of course that didn’t work either I tried 2 more different thumb drives still nothing. The strange thing is that it’ll charge my phone and any other device you plug in to usb1 and usb2 (not the middle console one) I know that is for charging only. And still nothing. Please I need help I really want to fix this! By the way I also have the clunk and the humming noise.

This is a almost 50k vehicle this is completely unacceptable I’m starting to regret my purchase and that is a shame because I really was looking forward to this truck and now it has a bunch of issues :(

I had mine at dealer on the 27 Dec and basically told to wait for an update - they can't do anything else... initially this was a 'keeper' vehicle, but come time for the 3/36 to expire, I'm tapping out.
So they just couldn’t make Apple CarPlay to work?

Bought my first RAM Truck on Friday (2019 Rebel, no nav 8.4 screen), the salesman was doing the post purchase tour and setup, neither my iPhone nor his Android would connect via the USB ports in the front console nor the back, nor would they charge. Saturday morning the service dept applied 3 patches and were going to look at the USB and it worked with their cable / phone ... Tried my cable and phone, everything worked!! For a while... Yesterday (Sunday, 2.5 day old truck), driving home, showing off to the wife, CarPlay / WAZE disappears from the screen never to return!

WAF (wife acceptance factor) is a little on the low side at this point.

So far, tried 5 different cables, all work sometimes, when they work all is good, when they don't it doesn't even charge .. how can it not charge? Either the wire is there or it isn't! I assume the RAM USB is not being recognized as a valid iPhone charger and hence CarPlay doesn't want to turn on..

Another (unrelated?) issue, I was driving around, switched on high beam and the fogs go off (not unexpected), but made a left at a roundabout and I could swear the fogs flashed on as I made the turn.

I believe is the usb ports 1 and 2 are not communicating with the uconnect mine worked just fine the first week I have the truck, I have the 8.4 uconnect (NO-NAV) and now it will charge the phone but no data can be read! I even put music into 3 different thumb drives which it should read the files and play the music but nothing... you should try that as well so can you see it's got nothing to do with the cable nor the phones you are using! this is beyond frustrating my truck has 900 miles on it this is CRAZY!! PLEASE @RamCares help us out do not let people run away from RAM this trucks are too awesome to let them go like that....

I’ve had the exact same problem with the ports not even charging. Bought brand new OEM Apple cable and still didn’t work.

CarPlay doesn’t work, until I set up a service appointment.

As for your fog lights, there’s a setting where they only turn on when you’re turning. When you turn left, the left light turns on. You can change it so they stay on when you’re not turning.

There’s a button on the front of the light switch dial. Push in on the button and it’ll change your settings. I don’t know the order but pushing the same button turns off the fog lights, then the next press turns them on and maybe the next press has them on only when you’re turning.

I saw that option in a YouTube video review of the truck.

I’ll see if I can find it.

I will have to check out the settings for the fog lamps, I managed to get CarPlay working, I saw somewhere else that plugging the phone in before hitting the start button on the Dash will enable it, it worked for me, both my Phone and the wife Phone are working now. However this will mean pulling over and turning off/on the truck if the connection goes out 1/2 way through a drive, not ideal (to say the least)..

Thanks all,
Gary

Yeah, plugging in the iPhone before starting has worked for me so far, but still a PITA when you forget!

Don't give up, try different cables, unlock the truck, then phone, then press the start button on the truck, wait a little. First time the phone MUST be unlocked, also go to CarPlay on the phone, make sure its enabled to allow use while locked (settings then search for CarPlay is easiest)

Until it works, nothing would show up on the CarPlay screen, so settings can’t be changed or even checked prior to things working (even if only for a second or two).

I just got off the phone with uConnect support, there is a SB (discussed on these forums for other issues) called SB 08-003-19 that is supposed to cure the issue with CarPlay too .. having it installed next week, will let you know.

What's a SB? Is this an over the air update or do we have to bring the truck in? Mine does this also.
