Air conditioning performance

New guy here, I think I just signed up to vent (no pun intended). Can't believe I bought a $55K truck and it has issues, unbelievable. Less than 3K on the odo and already had the truck at the dealer for the A/C problem. I'm in Okla, it gets to 100 easy. A/C with TSB update and recharged system (cause it was low from the factory?) is not going to cut it. I can tell already. Really upset. I thought i checked all recalls and TSBs before buying but somehow missed this. All my life I swore I'd never own a dodge and then I let all the car reviews change my mind - dumba__S. What's crazy is this thread has been going since july 2018 and still no fix???

Hi chalin,
We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing this A/C concern. If you end up going to the dealership to see if this TSB applies to your vehicle and you still are not satisfied with your A/C performance, please send our team a private message and we would be happy to look into this further for you!

Haven't had a really hot day since I took mine in. They evacuated the system and replaced. Said it was low. Seems to have helped, but to say it's blowing cold strong air, wouldn't say so. When we get a hot day I'll take temp readings at the vents.
I kept an old school AC/refrigeration thermometer clipped in the vents of all my vehicles for years, and the coldest my Ram blows out the driver's vent in the middle is about 53 degrees. My last vehicle, a 2015 Mustang GT, blew 42 degree air out the vents even on the hottest days.

Thanks for the response, as noted the TSB has been performed and the system freon evacuated and recharged. Won't know how well it works till we have some hot days. Thanks again.

So what's a "private message" - email?

Ok, so the thermometer I used is probably not the highest tech out there, yeah it's a Weber meat thermometer, but got these readings last night with A/C on max.
Center Vents - drivers side 53, passenger side 43. Yeah, considerable difference. Was 6 degree difference before they did the TSB flash on the software.
53 isn't gonna work here - they should be the same.

Thanks for the info, so your truck already had the AC flash for increased performance and its still inadequate?

If thats the case, mine is the same have a Feb 19 build which already has this revision and AC is still very weak on the drivers side and barely acceptable on the passenger side.

Yes, A/C Flash performed

mine was built 4/2018 , i have about 13k miles on it and really never noticed it being weak. i will have to measure once it warms up here in ohio

I'll keep an eye on this with my new Limited, but during my test drive, the A/C seemed to blow pretty cold (I overheat quite easily, hence my preference for air conditioned/ventilated seats in whatever I drive), and I had to turn down the ventilated seats. We aren't expecting any crazy hot temps soon, but once we do, I'll report back. I have a March 2019 build date.

I haven't read through the whole thread, but I saw that someone mentioned that the A/C system never turns on recirc on its own when in Auto mode? Is there some place I can confirm this? That's fantastic news, since I usually have a window cracked open and a cigar going when I'm by myself, and my previous several vehicles all drove me nuts because all summer I had to leave the fan on auto but change the temp, vent placement, and I still had to turn recirc off.

Thanks,

-John

Thanks for the info, do you happen to remember the readings pre-flash?
I'm sorry I don't, I think driver side was around 50 and passenger was 45-46. They refill the system freon.

So I have never posted to this thread, however, I have been following it since I got my RAM in Sept. of 2018. I instantly noticed the air wasn't as cool as my 2008 Grand marquis or the few vehicles I had prior, including a 1998 RAM 1500! I have always used a temp gauge in one of my vents and monitored the temps over the years in my vehicles. Most all stayed around 42F after about 10 minutes of drive time in the Florida summer time. This 2019 RAM 1500 Laramie is the worst yet. It wont go below 53F out of the vent. Seems like there is something very wrong as My fiancee's Chrysler 200s and 2019 Ford Explorer are both freezing inside. I have a few questions. What is a TSB and how can I flash my AC with whatever updated software to try and fix this issue? Thanks for any and all help.

RAM cares set up an appointment with the Dealer - Dropped it off this morning for not only the A/C issue but the following as well:
Back up sensor for brakes goes off without any reason. Turned it off.
Display theme resets to default after sitting over night.
Occasional droning sound from back - think it is the Noise Cancellation system, there's a TSB out for it.
Outside Temperature Sensor is way off at start up and even 10 minutes later still 2-5 degrees off.
Cargo light sometimes on - sometimes off.
Several friends looking at buying new trucks and really paying attention to how RAM handles this.

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin. Issued by factory to guide tech in repairs. Software update/Flash is accomplished by Dealer. TSB is 24-001-19

*****Hey all with poor AC vent temps....here is 19 Ram test procedure showing what center drivers vent should be delivering based on outside ambient temperature. Reposted this from member "I Love Grits" July 20,2018 on page 2 of thread "air conditioning performance" No idea if this latest as its 10 months old. Print this out and take to dealer along with your thermometer and get manager involved if they blow you off about temps delivered.

Thanks for the info - can you tell me where this document comes from?

It was posted by another member in one of the AC threads. I remembered seeing it so I searched it out and reposted it. I assume it is from FCA service documentation that the member acquired.

My 2019 Laramie is at the Dealer, went in yesterday morning. Today I talked with the Service writer and he said everything checked out and was within spec.
Also stated the 8 degrees difference in vent temperature was within spec. I think that's BS and told him so.
The readings they provide at A/C max, recirculation are the following:
Drivers Side Left - 52 F
Drivers Side Right - 52 F
Pass Side Left - 44 F
Pass Side Right - 45 F
Yesterdays outside temp was 79 F
I now have contacted the Service Manager and told him I didn't think those readings are in spec based on the Document that was posted. Would just like to be able to cite it's origin.
Based on the document, I think it is a blend door issue. Don't want them removing dash - that would only create more problems. We'll see what the service manager says this afternoon.
Just had a call from RAM Cares, appreciate that they are staying on top of this.
