Aftermarket Amp and 12” sub install in a HK LIMITED!

OK so here is the box update with some needed details. The fox acoustic dual ported 10 box fits well and is very sturdy. 2 jl 10w63v fit no problem with 12mm to spare behind the sub (jl specifies 12.5mm needed but what's a hair off). As far as fit goes this is not a 1 size fits all without modification. I am guessing they did not test fit the box on all trim levels or they did and forgot to mention som important things. If you have a model with the adjustable under seat storage system then that needs to be removed. It is 3 10mm bolts on both sides of the truck followed by 2 small torx bolts in the middle. Pry back the middle plastic panel which is held in from behind by a clip exposing 2 more 10mm bolts. Once this is removed the box fits like a glove (a really tight OJ glove). The seats lie flat and the reclining functions retain the full range of motion. The motion however is not smooth as the seat literally is sitting on the box. I am going to add some spacers to the seat brackets to raise them up maybe 3mm. Also as far as woofer excursion goes I may or may not. Have to raise the box as I have never used jlw6 subs and am unsure of the excursion. I should have it wired up by end of weekend and be able to review sound.

How's getting to the floor storage? Looks like I have the same mats. I don't get in there a lot, but I do store things in there.

You can slide the box back and forth to get to either sides storage although their new revised model makes accommodations for the storage boxes.

Finished running my power, ground, rca, and remote wires tonight. By far the most difficult vehicle I have ever done this on. First on the new 2019 rams you can't just run the cables down a side channel under the door sils or even near them as the floor is almost entirely flat metal. The small channel that is there a cut piece of plastic that is filled to capacity with wires already and also holds the clips for the sill plate trims so you can't just route them out. You can just about run the wires to the back up until you reach the in floor ram box storage then loosen the 4 screws holding the ram box in to give you some play to run the carpet under the rug to the back. If I was to do this all again I would set aside time to remove the drivers side front seat and run a straight run under the carpet. Better yet I will pay a shop to do it for me next time. This was a pain in the a$$. Tommorow when it is light out I will begin amp tuning.

What route did you go for the RCA’s. Still trying to figure out if I need a converter or just tap high levels off of a speaker.

What ga power wire you running? I ran 4 ga and was able to lay it in those channels. Ran the RCAs down the passenger side in the same channel. All in took about 90 min. I read a couple others ran the power underneath the cab. Might be the easiest on this truck but you'd want to add some additional protection to the wire.

I am running 0 guage but the drivers side. Channel has zero room. The passengers may have much more room.

Love the JL shallow subs. I installed 2-13tw5 in my 2019 and have been blown away with the performance. This is my first time using shallow subs.

Can you post a few pictures of where the two subs ended up? I’d like to go with one 13tw5.

Finally got my box built. Still need to carpet ir up, but Im going to begin the install of wires tonight. I'll try and take plenty of pics and maybe start a new thread with the install. I'm going with 2 sundown sa10s, and an orion 2500 watt amp.

i have the same HERTZ amp. that little thing is a beast.

Going for massive SPL I see. Those Orion amps are very under rated.

The hertz amp so far is one of the best amps I have used. Small and compact with 1000w rms @ 1 or 2 ohm. Have it connected to the 10w6v3's in parellel for 500w rms each.

Yes they are lol. This is the birthsheet that came with it. I started the install, but like others have said there is very little room for a 0 gauge power wire.

My goal is more bass and louder high end overall.

I’ve decided to have a MDF box custom built for under the passenger back seat.

The amp is a old JL 500/1 that will be mounted under the driver side back seat or on the back wall behind the back seat.

A 10” would be too boring so I am going to try and make a JL Audio 12” 12w3t4 work. I figure a 12” screen warrants a 12” sub. I need .85 cubic feet I plan to rice fill the box to measure volume to get the size of the box as exact as possible due to the irregular rear angles.

So far I have mocked up the sub box in cardboard and run 4 gauge through the firewall for the amp.

I’ll put up more pics as I go as I intend to take this project kinda slow and make it perfect as far as OEM integration.

It will be tough to out do the set up I had in my 2013 Longhorn but I am trying.

Input and experience is welcome.

Do you guys think I need to add a resistor to prevent the system from shutting down if I just disconnect and use the stock sub bass output and feed that to the JL amp?

This guy said he needed a resistor for the highs with a processor:
I had saw the video myself but actually you do not need any resistor. I used L2I and connected it to a Kicker 500 mono amp to drive 2 Kicker CVT in a custom box. Sounds awesome

I’m starting this thread to show the integration I am working on to install a single JL Audio 12w3t-v2 in a custom under seat mdf box with a JL 500/1 series mono amp.

Check out the rice method of building the box to an exact .85 cubic feet minus the sub.
Here’s mine I just got it finished. I used the factory sub and tied it in to jbl amp I wanted to keep the under seat storage I went with the jbl 600vxi with the 300 amp for the sub I also replaced the factory six speakers with focal 165’s. I have the 8.4 with the touch screen I was going to put the dsr1 with the idatalink and exceleron but they came back and said since I didn’t have the stock alpine system or Harmon Kardon they aren’t compatible with the 6 speaker system but these are the installed pictures they also put it the Bluetooth link for tuning and a hardwire as well

Yes installing the wiring was frustrating. If you want to run it on the drivers side then do yourself a favor and just pull the drivers seat. You can then easily run it under the carpet.
