Adding OEM Front Camera?

I started the installation today and I wasn't so sure of these details for the '22.

Parts used:

- The two auxiliary video inputs are on the blue plug.
- Both were already populated, so I de-pinned channel 1.
- RTFM I posted above šŸ™„šŸ˜. It has the necessary details to work the plug features properly.
- I tapped into F66 under the steering wheel for the 12VDC trigger and connected it to the red power lead at the video jack.
- I connected the ground in the engine compartment.
- The sockets for '22s are different than earlier MYs.

I got all the easy stuff done with the wiring and cable routing in the cab, now I have to mount the camera and route the cable under the hood.

The picture with the front-camera below is just a powered test with it hanging over the grill. It's not mounted yet.

I have 90+ sockets left. If any one wants a few, just message me and I can send some your way.

Figured Iā€™d chime in here, since this has been done for years on the 4th gens, and will be the same on the 5th gens. All you need to do is take a female RCA pigtail-

Crimp these terminals onto the red and black wires- https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/TE-Connectivity/638551-2?qs=/ha2pyFadui2KO4i8tuEMRmwe3qqDO4dcOxrTo7CGec4q0rAKYyNkA==&tetid=MuZSUWoENz
Insert the red wire into pin 24 on the big radio connector, and insert the black wire into pin 25.

Then use AlfaOBD and set VehConfig 1 CHMSL camera to YES. Youā€™ll now have the cargo cam soft key active on the radio controls screen, and you can plug any aftermarket camera into the pigtail on the radio. For mounting, either come up with a clever solution, or buy the ā€œRAMā€ grille nameplate that houses the front camera for the surround view equipped trucks. Just choose a camera that can be fabricated into the front camera mount. Supply the camera with fused ignition power, and ground, and youā€™re done.

I canā€™t speak for 100% certainty but I would think the 23 would be the same as a 22 with a UC5. You can start on page 29 all other information is basically for older models.

So did you do a combination of the above posts? Which steps exactly did you follow assuming its the same on the later models as it is on the 22 with the blue plug? Did you need to add a switch so that the camera doesn't overheat? when you de-pin the connector, do you leave the old cables floating around? can you T-tap them instead?

For the 2022+ trucks with Uconnect 5,
Another member had posted a link to a Mopar Connection Repair Kit site, Mopar Connection Repair Kit
I looked up a 2022 truck and got this pinout:

Hopefully, we can connect an analog video signal to VIDEO SIGNAL 1 / VIDEO COMMON 1.

The connector is a Molex sTAK50h, https://www.molex.com/molex/products/family/stak50h_unsealed_connection_system

On my truck, there are three of these sTAK50h headers, a green, blue, and purple. Only the green and blue are populated. I'll take a look and see if these cavities are populated or not. If they are, hopefully they match this pinout.

I've also ordered some terminals for this. TE and Molex make them.
Molex: TAK50 Terminal, available in a 0.13 (~26AWG) and 0.35 (~22AWG) mm2 wire.
TE: NanoMQS Gen 50 terminal, 22 AWG: 2272196-2 : Generation 50 Automotive Terminals
NOTE: There's also a 26 AWG version of the NanoMQS.

I found some NanoMQS Gen 50 22 AWG terminals from Newark in the UK, so I should have those soon.

Once I get the parts and tools in, I'll share my findings here.

Everything you need to know is in those two post from Fusion and cskindt post. Depin the two plugs and repin the new ones in those spots. I wrapped mine and tucked them to the side. Then in AlfaOBD use the Auxiliary Cameras not the CHSML option when you enable the setting.

So is this possible for 12inch uConnect 4c? 2021 Laramie.

I just read the whole 34 pages and am lost. I have installed front cameras on Toyotas but the Ram process is intimidating. This may be asking too much but if someone is willing it would be wonderful to see a summary for a 2022 1500DT with 12" display (Laramie Sport) to include:

What to buy, with part numbers and/or sources and/or links.
Physical installation that includes pulling the dash and head unit and routing the wires.
Electrical installation, including what plugs where.
Software process with TazerDT.

Any help appreciated. So far, the instructions on page 30 are closest to what I think I need to do but still assumes knowledge I don't have. Thanks.

Keep in mind -- the 34 pages are for 2019 - 2024. it has all of the info that I needed to add the front camera and program it on my 2019 Laramie
2025 is a diff. beast from an electrical and programmable features perspective.
No one so far has any info for adding an aftermarket front camera to a 2025.

With the updated wiring on the 2025, I'm curious if anything was changed to make adding the cameras easier. I mean if they were smart they would have made them plug and play so they could sell them as an additional accessory. They cheaped out on giving them to us without adding an expensive package, I heard even the limited does not have a front camera standard.

I don't know -- probably not easy --- especially with programming it!!
On Big Horne, I did not see any input for an accessory camera on the center screen. The entire input looked different than my 2019 12-inch screen.
However, the factory's surround camera option costs only 600 bucks!
The pic is for reference --- I think the open slot is for GPS antenna.

yea probably to hard for my wiring skill set. Honestly I wasn't looking for the option when I was shopping for a truck but I saw what looked like a camera on the front and thought oh cool will be nice to have a front camera. Was not until I got home until I realized it was fake blank on the front of the truck.

I have a 23 Laramie 12ā€. If I purchase the Natika front camera from Amazon, Amazon.com , will the female RCA Pigtail inserted into the 24 & 25 slot all I would need to do to make it work?

You need a lot more. It has to programmed
Many of the posts (34 pages) give you all the parts you need and how to program it.

I haven't done it yet but plan to try soon on my '22 Laramie. I think you'll need the camera pinned to 24/25, power to the camera and then something like TazerDT or AlphaOBD to enable the cargo camera.

On my 22 I have used Alfa to turn on the aux1/aux2 cameras. I see the pin locations to make my connections and they are populated already as someone else mentioned. My question is, where do these wires lead? Is there another connector that they end in that might be closer to where Iā€™m going so I donā€™t have to depin at the radio and can just add a jumper somewhere else?

I hope you chase them and find out! Worst case--can you just tap into them on the back of the HU?

Definitely can be done behind the radio, but if the wires go farther it may be useful to see where they are. Like the oem bed lights for example. The kit has you run the wires all the way to the bcm, when they are already all the way to the rear of the truck. Hoping to find something like this with the camera wiring

I just completed on my 2021 ram 1500 Limited with surround 360 cameras. I thought I could use the mini coax but I clearly did not have a spare like everyone else I have looked at had. I then added the rca pigtail to pin 21-22. This is for aux cargo camera 1. The pins 24-25 are for aux cargo camera 2. Can use either of them. I used the tazer dt to enable the cargo camera -> hit reboot so it shows up immediately after. I might add a couple cameras - one for the baby in the back seat, one for cargo in truck , and one for under the tonnaex cover. It will require a av line input switch which I will power each camera individually via auxbeam switch panel. am trying to find a third break light that will handle one. I bought the recon one but it didnā€™t fit my truck (was an in too short on the length). Anyways, hope this helped.

Thank you - I am just waiting on the camera to arrive now before having a go. Always good to hear others doing it so I know it works :)

Sorry for my confusion but did you add a cargo camera or a front-facing (grille) camera?

Which fuse did you piggy back on? And was it in the engine bay?

Where are yall running your cable from front camera to unit?
I am planning to run the camera wiring through the stock passage in the grille behind the RAM emblem. Then through the firewall and behind the trim
