2026 HEMI or Hurricane?

I have a 2015 with the hemi and a 2025 with the I6. I'd take the I6 over the hemi everyday. The I6 is smoother and quite a bit faster than the hemi and it pulls hard way past any reasonable speed limit. It can be a little jerky under low throttle, but I don't know if that's an engine or transmission issue.

A little jerky is why went with hemi v8 et vs Ford ranger turbo way jerky transmission plus those turbos you have to feed it higher octane to see real-world mpg..

Mines not jerky at all, at any speed. As for the octane, I fill up at costco and was already using 93 so no change for me. Not running 87 in either truck

I'm not sure I would call the Hurricane simple either because it has two less cylinders. It's DOHC with twin water & oil cooled turbos, electronic wategates, electric water pump, high pressure direct injection, etc. Also, the Hemi has been around since how long now? I suspect it's production has been amortized down quite a bit by now, whereas the Hurricane is a ways from that.

Do we actually have something official that states production costs of these engines currently?

I don't know that either are any simpler than the other but the I6 isn't complicated either. On paper, both Hurricanes are better than the HEMI. In real world driving, both the Hurricanes are better than the HEMI. Anyone considering either should probably go drive both trucks before making a decision or commenting (not directed at you, in general).

I don't get the failure or rebuild aspect the haters keep making as there's more angry HEMI owners that needed a new engine on this forum than there are angry Hurricane owners that need a new engine; I haven't seen any and I've only seen on on the Hurricane 3.0 FB group. I also don't get the failure/rebuild comments because the trucks have a 10/100,000 warranty, you're not paying for the failure anyway much less keep the truck long enough for it to fail. There's people in the FB group with 70K miles on hurricanes already with no failures/issues

The only failures I 've heard of on the hurricane is from mucked up thermostats that stick closed and overheated the engine. Heat problem, not an engine problem.

I test drove multiple full sized trucks, including a RAM with a Hemi. The I6 did it for me. Absolutely smooth ride and great power delivery. I don't know why anyone would go with a Hemi. The rebellion against I6 turbo and Hemi's return puzzle me.

The drive 3K and sometimes 4K miles per month and already look forward to the next I6 RAM. Had you told me that a full size truck can move fast and stay smooth, I'd laugh at you. Not today though.

Is it sad that I still love my EcoDiesel and hope that it lasts me a long time so that the Hemi/Hurricane debate can be settled and I will know which one to buy next.

I doubt that the Hemi/Hurricane debate will be settled soon...this is about EPA garbage,thus e-Torque appears. My 2026 Hemi with it isn't getting the same mileage I got with a 2020 F150 Supercrew 4x4 5.0. But that Ford has issues of its own, slippery 10spd trans & cam phaser issues at 30K, so e-Torque isn't helping that fuel mileage much

I don't get the constant etorque hate, my truck has 97K miles and not one etorque issue as do the multitude of trucks out there. The negatives about etorque by a small group of owners are wayyyyyyyyyyy overblown

People don't like a gimmick, like MDS is a gimmick. It's that simple.

The thing is, if they got rid of ALL the "gimmicks", the current Hemi which gets kinda crappy mileage would get even worse mileage. And it would still be a dog of a motor (by current standards).

I hand calculated (using Fuelly) every fill-up I ever did in my '19 Hemi/eTorque. Over the 73K miles that I owned it, my average was 14.1 MPG.

"But it sounds like a V8.....!"

Side note: I always put into my notes what the computer said the mileage was, too, and 95% of the time the onboard computer claimed 1 - 2 MPG better than what I actually got. Sometimes it was closer. Sometimes it was even more optimistic. Only something like 2 or 3 times ever did the truck actually get as good or better than what the computer said it did.

There's many different variances and I'll lose the gimmick, which is why I don't have 1 of the 2. Hopefully that extra 1-2 MPG the gimmick gives pays for the cost out of warranty! Or the down time or......

Simply put, it's overblown to you because you haven't experienced any issues with it. To those who have had issues with it I'm sure it's kind of a big deal. It was for my daughter, who was without her truck for over two months when the 48v battery module failed. I've owned two trucks with etorque and didn't have any issues. But I owned both of those trucks for less than two years. Our current Ram 1500 does not have etorque. We've had it for over five years and are happy with the Hemi in it.

The fact is, etorque did nothing to improve fuel economy for me. I can see where it might make a difference for those who live in larger cities with lots of stop and go driving, to give the stop start a chance to do its thing. I know that's not all it does but that's its main function. But I live in a very rural area with very little city driving. So it was a system which did nothing for me, which would render the truck undriveable if any part of it fails.

I agree. Compared to starter-driven start-stop systems, it's a much better solution. Also haven't had a problem with it in over 200,000 miles.

I think climate is a factor when choosing between the two. For example...I just traded my 2022 F150 2.7 Ecoboost for a Hemi. Not a fan of the Etorque, and although I never had an issue with my F150, I was worried about the high heat here in the desert eventually killing the turbos (common thing). If you're not in a really hot climate...I'd say go with the Hurricane.
