2025 ram 1500 engine broke at 400miles

Reason number 837467362 why an 18 year old shouldn't be buying a brand new truck. Good luck on getting it fixed.
I don't really see anything wrong with an 18 year old buying a new truck. Especially if he is working and paying for it himself. It's not like he took his money and bought a sports car that he is planning to heavily modify that will become a worthless money pit in the end. He needs a truck for his profession. If he can swing it, why not buy a new truck that he would hope would be reliable and trouble free for years to come.

My $.2 it’s a sucky situation to be put in. I get it vehicles do have their issues that require service even on a brand new one. Those dealers that provide loaner cars aren’t everywhere and aren’t provided with loaners from the manuf so having one that does provide one is a plus. The issue is him being 18 just like if he was to go rent a car I’m sure their companies policy states has to be 21+ that is what it is. I have to give the service dept a chance to fix said issues.. just demanding a buyback isn’t going to do it.

Maybe have you get/use the loaner while he uses your vehicle meanwhile but that I’m sure has its own set of issues. You’re gonna be inconvenienced one way or another you just gotta work with it until the situation is resolved.

3-6 weeks for a brand new truck with 400 miles, un acceptable IMO. That s why I d get the ball rolling. I had a Subaru that took that long once waiting for parts during covid. Subaru made 2 months payments and I got a loaner. At least that s fair compensation. Don t be a doormat .

Hmmm…I didn’t even know there was one reason at all. How old does someone have to be when they should be able to buy a brand new truck?
Well, if you can't even think of one reason at all, then there's not much else to say. When I was 18, my main focus wasn't on wealth building decisions either. $25k invested in the S&P in 1980 would be almost $3.8 million today. So, I can literally think of millions of reasons why an 18 year old shouldn't buy a new car. But that's just me. Some people would rather have the new car, and that's ok, too.

I brought it up because the OP had concerns and expressed regrets. Nothing wrong with bringing up that the lemon law is there for consumers if things get really bad. Maybe you missed the part where the OP mentioned that she was told by the dealership that it may be at least 3 weeks before the truck is returned because they still don't know whats wrong. At least 3 weeks? That's after it's been there for a week already! I don't know about you, but if my new truck was going to be out of service for 4 weeks or maybe longer, I would be getting ready to return that POS and force a buy back. Hopefully they get it fixed much sooner, like today, but when the service department gives you no confidence that it can or will have it repaired anytime soon, you can't help but think of worst case scenario.

Yes, I'd be unhappy then I'd find another dealer. Theres nothing making you use a dealer thats showing little to no desire to resolve your issue.

3-6 weeks on a 4 year old truck is unacceptable, find a different service shop

Everyone is differnt and makes different decisopons for differnt reasons, theres nothing wrong with an 18yo buying a new vehicle if they can afford it

Imagine if BMW built a pick up truck......

BMW's have among the worst quality ratings so they would not sell many trucks. BMW's are mostly status symbols in the US and not know for reliability. When I lived in Europe for several years, BMW's were considered the are the working man's chevy. Most who wanted an affordable but slightly higher quality car purchased an Audi or Mercedes.

Gosh dang a 18 year old wi the a 25 ram no co-signer what’s that payment look like? Where does your kid work at 18 to afford a brand new truck and insurance 😂
Im a little skeptical of this situation. I cant think of a single dealership that would sell a truck to an 18 year old with no cosigner
You cant have any credit history until you are 18.

Think about it. 18 year old boy walks in with 10K and NO CREDIT HISTORY and a dealership would sell them a 75K truck.

Somethings not adding up

Proper planning and working with your kids and you can help them establish a great credit score before they are 18. My son had a better credit score than me at 18. Didn't buy a $75K car, but had no issue getting a $35K care with 0% interest rate.

It would really depend on the bank. And since he is in a trade and maybe belongs to a union, there is a good chance that maybe he belongs to a credit union associated with it, and maybe they approved his loan for him.

My son Purchased a ram 1500 2025 last week. Worst decision ever.... any help with getting money back or lemon law ect.
Got to 400miles driven the. The truck started shaking horribly. Flashing engine light started. So we had it towed. But of course stelantis only covered 15 miles and the dealer was 24 miles away so we had to pay for towing. We then called to get a rental car because it under the "3 year 36000mile warranty" . Guess what they don't provide a car because my son is 18. So let let him purchase it completely under his name no co signer. Now 1 week later the engine cylinder #3 misfires and they don't know why but can't get him another car? They told him it could be at least 3 weeks because they still don't know why just that it's cylinder #3. He will get fired if he misses any work, but he doesn't have a car now to get there. And in the mean time he's making the payment on a piece of crap. Any advice in dealing with lemons or ram would be so appreciated l.

SO for everyone skeptical of my son at 18 buying a truck on his own. We'll, ibwill tell you this I raised both my kids to be hard workers. Which he is. He has been working for to save up for a reliable truck that is New in hopes to NOT break down. (Lol) As far as his credit I am a real estate broker , I mananage assets for a living. I have always taught him how important GOOD CREDIT is. When he turned 18 I put him on my cards as an authorized user. HE WAS NOT GIVEN ANY CARDS TO USE. as I won't cosign. This helped him achieve an impeccable credit profile at his young age. After 6 months he had a 786 fico. The dealer said they don't usually see 40 year Olds with that credit. This Helped him get a REALLY good interest rate on his OWN loan. Lenders Cannot discriminate on age as long as he has the credit and income to support his purchase. Also as far as an investment, I consider a reliable vehical an investment. I also consider a career in civil construction an investment in your future. Just a bit of further insight on his finances. FYI, I'm not a troll just an upset buyer.

You are mistaken. You can in fact have a credit history and credit score before you turn 18. I had one before I turned 17 because my employer put me on as an authorized user of the company's credit and it was reported to credit reporting agencies.

Also, if you have a good job and enough of a down payment to have good equity in what you will be using for collateral many banks will not be concerned with the lack of a credit score. Many people get their first loans without a credit history.
