2025 Ram 1500 Current Owners - Discussion, Feedback, and Problems

Hello all. I just made my way back to a 1500. My last 1/2 ton was a 2020 Ecodiesel which was my favorite truck I’ve ever had. Since then I had a Silverado 1 ton gasser for a couple years and a 2022 Ram Cummins for about 3 years. I made the switch back then because I was doing more towing which I’m not anymore. My truck is my daily driver so I put about 25k miles on a year. I wanted to go back to something that was more comfortable but still towing capable. I saw the great deals Ram had on the leftover 25’s this month so I did a build on their site and one came up on inventory that was the identical truck I built minus the bed utility group so I jumped on it.

It’s a 2025 Crew Cab 4x4 standard bed Big Horn. I can’t get the window sticker attached so that it’s readable. Options on the truck are towing technology group, trailer tow group, night edition, big horn level 2, front and rear rubber mats, 3.92 axle, black tubular side steps, engine block heater, surround view camera system. It appears that the crew cab standard bed must come standard with the 33gal tank too which I love. MSRP $66,015, purchase price $52,007. I drove my Cummins 5 hours to get the truck and drove the new truck home.

My quick thoughts are I love how comfortable, smooth, quiet, and powerful it feels. So far I love the I6. The interior is super nice and comfortable. As others have said I’m surprised at some of the things Ram is cheaping out on. My truck came with the tow mirrors and I don’t like that they aren’t power fold or extend, if you pay for the tow package and towing technology group it should have those options. It’s odd that the LED headlights don’t have the accent DRL anymore. The tail lights and 3rd brake light are halogen. Not a big deal to me just seems odd. Looks like my night edition wheels are not a true painted wheel either. They appear to have a black cap on them. Again not a big deal but another thing they cheaped out on. That being said for the price this truck has a ton of great options. I was smiling quite a bit on my 5 hour drive. Coming from almost 5 years of driving HD trucks daily it was just so comfortable and quiet. I think this truck set up for towing will be a better compromise for me than daily driving an HD truck just to tow 10 or less times a year.
I have the tow mirrors on my Bighorn and the do extend, you have to put some muscle into getting them extended. I do miss having the power fold though.

Oh yeah I know they do I just meant that they are not power fold and extend. Weird to have all the towing tech it does and not get those options

Has anyone had an issue where their parking brake turns on on it's own when you start your truck?

There have been at least 15-20 times since I've owned mine where I jump in, start the truck and the parking brake is on when I never did it myself. It's completely random. I checked if the auto parking brake setting was on, it is indeed turned off.

Haven’t had that happen to me. Maybe others.
Any chance your door was still open when you started it?

My son has a 2025 Silverado 1500. Anytime he parks in my driveway, which has a slight grade to it, the Silverado's are programmed to put the parking brake on as soon as you put it in PARK. Then, when he leaves, as soon as he puts it in REVERSE (or DRIVE if he backed in), then the truck automatically releases the parking brake. It only does it on a grade and never when parking on a flat surface. Could this be the same with some of the Rams?

Put your seatbelt on before shifting into drive

Put your seatbelt on before shifting into drive
THIS!

The seatbelt is key. When you put it in park, it will automatically apply the parking brake. If you have your seatbelt connected before you change it from park to reverse or drive, it will automatically release the parking brake. if you shift it out of park BEFORE you connect your seatbelt, it does not release the parking brake for you, and you will have to do it yourself.

Not if the auto parking brake is turned off in the radio settings like he said is the case in his post.
If auto parking brake is off, the ONLY time it should engage is when you do yourself via the parking brake switch.

Seatbelt was for sure on. I wear my seatbelt every time and always put it on before I try to put it in gear.

On the flip side, I know I've moved my truck without my seatbelt on and never had that happen. It's so sporadic and I can't find a common reason for it.

true, I should have called that out. I was more trying to make people aware of the seatbelt connect to the auto-disengage when people are using the auto parking brake setting.

Updates:
1 1/2 years, 16,400 miles later.

No mechanical issues so far. Motor, tranny, and the rest of the powertrain are performing flawlessly.
I strictly use 91 octane. Great performance. Chirps tires when floored on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear.

Mileage has not changed/ imporved much
City: 15 MPG or so
Combined: 18 MPG
HWY only: 22 plus at 75 + MPH

Issues -- 6 trips to the dealer todate:
UConnect requires service error. Was OK for 3 months, back again.
Occasional brain-dead UConnect system -- disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes or so fixes it! I am assuming post-over-the-air updates cause this.

Few rattles - dont know from where yet.

Overall OK so far

Has anyone else experienced a rattle noise coming from somewhere, either at the driver's door panel area or the A post grab handle area on their truck? I've already taken the door panel off and the A post handle trim piece off, and don't see anything that would be rattling. It's driving me insane! I'm also still getting wind noise while driving, as if the driver door isn't fully shut, but it is. Someone mentioned bending the B post of the driver door in some more, which I did, but it didn't seem to make a difference.
Have you ever figured this out? I believe I have the same issue on my new '25 Rebel. There's a rattling noise that sounds like it's coming from either my vent or door panel or somewhere on the drivers side. Only happen on acceleration when the car experiences its most amount of vibration from the engine.
