2019 RAM 1500 hellwig swaybar

What does "race car" have to do with anything?? You definitely need to try it before writing it off, it makes the truck corner much much better, it feels more planted and solid and "tight". Truck feels amazing with it on, even though I generally just sunday stroll my way around.

There is 37 pages on this forum alone all singing its praises. You really should have tried it.
Well, It's still sitting in my spare room, so I don't have to return it. I didn't even get an RA number yet. I will think about it some more. You guys are convincing me to keep it. :cool:

I understand that. So, in a way, I don't know what I'm missing. Which is probably better for me. 🤣

I will also say that there was quite a bit of oily residue on the TB (on the underside, especially). Would a catch can help that? If so, what is a good one?
It certainly could help, I like my mishimoto catch can but billet ones are good as well.
 
I think I just made up my mind. I got an email back from whoever at Hellwig. I have to pay return shipping. I had to pay for shipping in the first place, which was almost $30.

I might as well keep it. Problem solved. (y)

As a matter of fact, I think I will go install it right now.

I have a catch can I installed a day after I purchased my truck. I added the Hellwig five months after I purchased my truck. The ride around corners is so much better with it that I wish it would have been the first thing installed rather than waiting five months. I believe you’ll agree if you install it.

Drove around for about 15-20 minutes. I can definitely tell the difference. Hugs the road much better.

I put it on the middle hole. Installed GAT. I forgot I let a friend use my torque wrench. DOH!

now im wondering if mine is installed upside down had to remove my track bar relocation bracket when shop installed this due to the hellwig bend pointing upwards

I installed mine to match the upward direction, towards the end links, of the stock bar. I'm hoping I did it right, myself. :oops:
 
That is true about the K&N.

I didn't mean that the sway bar is a frivolous purchase. I meant, now that I retuned it, I can buy other things frivolously. (y)

I also returned the 87mm ported throttle body. I was having quite a bit of lag after installation. Even more than the stock throttle lag and even with the Roar Pedal. Put the stock TB back on, it was more responsive. I found that odd.

Like I said, not a race car. 🤣

I would think that for a ported throttle body to add any real value, it would have to be part of an upgrade package or plan. If you are going to need to have that much more air coming in, you likely have a tune on it, and probably headers. Not trying to sell you on any one tuner, but the Pulsar I installed eliminated the lag. Any tune should at least accomplish that.

Many guys on here like @silver billet, @z0n3, and @Jeffjad have enjoyed their Hellwig. I was a little disappointed in mine, but I think it's more related to heavier wheels and tires with the stock suspension. If I could go back I would have added Bilsteins or similar first. Just my .02

Do the Bilsteins change your payload rating at all? What about cost? I think the reason why many of us like the Hellwig is because it's a 10 second fix that costs very little with very noticable improvement; and for met at least, I don't want to lose any payload. If the Bilsteins can further improve my suspension in ride and handling and payload well then that might be my next mod.

I doubt that the Bilsteins would increase payload at all, that's more a function of gross vehicle weight. My thought is more along the lines of them being more stiff, acting to slow down travel as the wheels drop over bumps

I was more worried about them decreasing the payload? A softer suspension can reduce what you tow/haul. I'll probably just leave my shocks alone, I just bought airlift air bags for the rear and I need to get those installed first before worrying about shocks.
 
Changing shocks and/or suspension components and tires only changes the way it handles when towing, not the tow rating. The axle is what determines the GVWR and payload. The ram max tow steps up to a 256 mm axle which increases payload. Even if you replaced the axle you would probably still be stuck with the factory GVWR specs.

If it changes how it handles while towing, then it changes your payload. You're talking about legal/certified payload, which I'm not really interested in; if you put softer shocks on a truck, you can carry less regardless of what the official payload is. I don't want to reduce it.

It doesn't change the axle weight rating which is the GVWR and payload rating. You asked if different shocks change the payload rating, and they do not. Softer shocks increase sag and reduce tow handling only.

Again; if it reduces tow handling, it reduces payload for the same reason. Obviously your axle weight rating doesn't change. But if your truck starts walllowing like a pig with a bit of a load due to suspension changes, well you have to make sure you tow less and carry less. That's why the power wagon (and other off road focused trucks) cannot tow/haul as much as a regular 2500 even though the frame and axles haven't changed.
