2019 Folding Tonneau Cover: OEM vs BakFlip vs Gator

Why isn’t anyone ordering the Mopar version of the mx?
It’s on my shopping list along with a bedrug.

I have the Mopar version. It's a Mopar branded MX4 with a glossy surface. I was one that reamed out the plastic spacer on the lid to fit the side rails. It would have taken more effort to return it just took a couple of minutes to do. All I did was go up one size drill bit from the original hole.

I am going to add the Bedrug mat/tailgate once it is available.

As of a week or so ago, the Mopar version was on an "Engineering Hold". I had called several dealerships and they all said they were unavailable because of the hold. (Don't know if they actually had them and were just not selling or what.) I was able to talk to someone at Truck-Hero and they confirmed that they had been working on the Mopar version and in fact had finished the revision that day, however, she didn't know when they would be available for purchase because FCA hadn't made a new order yet. (Thought that was odd) She thought Mid-Sept.

No I don’t. I had Line X dealer install mine. I attached a pic of it installed.
I went to a Line-X dealer and loved the hard tonneau Cover. My only concern is that it was pricey ($950). Were you able to deal with them on your cover? Also, is it good at keeping out the water? Did it come with a tailgate seal?

Mine seems pretty well built. Super easy to fold (it has a latch on each side), and two of the same closer to the cab if you want to remove it. I can spray it With water directly and it leaks, but just a dribble. Quite happy with it actually.

Just a quick question. Was your spray in bed liner done at the factory. The reason I ask is that on posted pictures with the bed divider there is a ribbing along the side walls that seem to fit in front of the wheel wells. This is what the divider fits into. I ordered the BUG from the factory, so I am wondering how mine is going to look.

I didn’t try to get them down any. I needed it quick since we were leaving in a few days for a 10 day beach trip and taking the truck. Only water I have noticed is just a trickle in the corners where it meets the tailgate. I keep boxes with customer handouts, baseball, soccer bags in the bed and nothing has gotten wet. I thought it was well worth the extra $ for it not to rest on my back window when open and really like the bedrug material on the underside. It also comes with a bag that straps to the rails and lighting. ( I put the lights in my gun safe since the truck has bed lights already.

You got the soft cover, right? Can I ask what it cost?

No, it is a hard folding. Undercover Ultra Flex amd has a matte black finish.

Could you please post pictures of what the mopar version looks like? What have your impressions of it been? Other than badging and tailgate operation, are there any other differences between the G2 and the Mopar OEM version?

I only have my phone with me which for some reason can't upload photos to this site. I always get an error message of the file being too large. Sorry I can't provide a picture. I thought I had posted a couple elsewhere but I can't find them.

Anyway, I had the G2 on my last 2 trucks. They had gloss panels and you had to lift the panel to close the tailgate. This one is a basically the MX4 with gloss black panels. The G2 kept the back corners dry. This one allows a little water intrusion in the corners by the tailgate. Not floods, drips. I was used to the G2 but anyone that helped unloading stuff would always drop the panel then close the tailgate which would wad up the seal. I'll put up with some drips over ruining the rear seal.

Does this allow full access by the cab or do you lose the last bit where it's folded?

Anything lower than the cover you will have full access to the bed. If cargo is as higher you may lose 4-6” back by the cab. I actually took a load of pulled up carpet/ boxes to the dump today and had allot more space than my old hard cover on my Sierra. Best part was I climbed in the bed with my leaf blower and blew the small pieces and dirt out into the dumpster. Guys beside me were using a broom and said “ never thought about bringing a leaf blower”

I've heard the MOPAR is a branded G2 (glossy) but has the dual close function of the mx4. Maybe there is a newer version you received which is a MOPAR MX4 version?

When Bakflip introduced the MX4 the only change from the G2 was the seal at the tailgate. Otherwise the 2 are identical. The letter/email that circulated from Mopar mentioned G2. The guy just didn't understand Bakflip products. G2 and MX4 have the same panels, rail mounts, side and front seals, etc. The Bakflip MX4 has flat/satin black finish on the panels. The Mopar branded version is the MX4 with glossy finished panels like the G2.

Hopefully that makes sense......

I'm trying to learn more here. So you're saying that Bak charges $200 for the seal (G2-MX4 pricing)? What about the extra 100 lbs in weight capacity?
I'm leaning towards the MX4 but still open.

I've never paid attention to weight capacity on them. Didn't know there was a difference. I'd never attempt to put anything on them or stand on it. The panels dent pretty easy. I put small dents in my old ones when I would fold and remove them. The dents were from the metal loops that have been replaced with the plastic clips now. If you drop a wrench from maybe 6" I'm pretty sure you'd dent a panel. I went with Mopar in the event I have a warranty concern I can handle it with my local dealer rather than dealing with Bakflip direct. A warranty claim is pretty unlikely, though.
You can't make a bad decision with either one.
