12.2 MPG after first 1,000 miles

How many people are using their remote car starter? As long as the truck is running the mpg will go down either sitting in your truck while it runs or the remote starter. during these cold days I warm up my truck 3 times a day and I’m getting 14.3. I reset on my way to and reset again on the way home I’m getting 16.5 on way home and 17.9 going to work. So I know it’s from me using the remote car starter.

Good point. I've my truck a week now and it's been cold here, I think my idle hours are a little more than hours driven. My mileage is currently 11.6

I’ve changed to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Mobile 1 year filter, 93 octane, 4x4 but I’ve only used that setting thrice, 2wd 99% of the time, and I still only get 12.9 mpg. What gives? 3:21 gears too. I mean, does the 22inch wheels really affect it that bad? I’m not flooring the pedal either.

I have to admit I'm very disappointed at the gas mileage I am getting on my new truck. This is with me driving fairly conservatively with about 75% being city driving without hauling or towing anything. This is a far cry from the 22/19/17 Ram states for this vehicle.

I'd like to see others post their first 1,000 miles and see how it compares.

Not sure what to say. Mine is fantastic. Laramie crew non etorque. This was in the summer when i got it. Anyone expecting top mileage in the winter is crazy. I usually lose at least 3mpg when winter blend and the cold hits.

Give it time and take a trip! I was disappointed for the first 700 miles. Should have taken a pic then showing the lowsy 9.6 mpg average I got the first month of 99% city driving, back and forth to work, 20 mins each way on mostly cold, remote start 5-10min warm up most days. Worst I recall was 9.2 for a couple weeks.

However, all that has changed after my first weekend trip with the family. Drove 235 miles today, all highway at 70-75 with three adults, two kids in carseats and weekend bags out back. Overall, average jumped 6 MPG’s. Got 19.9 for the 4 hr drive (one stop for dinner). And I just passed 1k.

FWIW, I've done a few trips in mine and am now at 2k miles. No improvement whatsoever and my driving has been consistent.

That is funny - but I think the issue is the MPG is not living up to the window sticker. Compare to the Tundra, which is a much lower rating 13/17. Also a 5.7 engine. Folks wouldn't be complaining as much if the Ram also had a 13/17 rating.
About 5-6 years ago all manufacturers were supposed to go to the “J” standard and Toyota was the only one to follow it so what they state compared to everyone else was correct. I average 12-12.5mpg on my Tundra without towing, but I also have a constant weight of 600+lbs in the bed of my truck. I work on all makes and models and when looking at the average on preowned vehicles none of them really do any better at all times. Some of them may be higher, but I contribute that to not having a constant load or towing often. I don’t know if the big 3 have caught up and started to post real mpg, but it’s all a marketing scheme to say who’s better.

I'm at 800 miles and about the same mileage, very disappointed. I live in an area where we have a lot of rolling hills and I know that has a bearing on it. When I take a longer ride on flatter terrain, I get much better mileage, 20-22 MPG.

1400 miles on Limited 1500 with 3.92. Has been extremely cold here and using remote start to much. Switched out factory tires to Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 275/60r20 and that cost me at least 1 mpg. Averaging 13.4 so far. About what I expected driving 8 miles to work with half of that at 30 mph. I am sure when we warm up a bit and get some better fuel will be up over 16.

i also "live in an area where we have a lot of rolling hills " .. first tank at 350 mi was 19.5 hand cal on wife's trk ... overall avg has run around 18 - 19 hc ... just used Fuelly for this last fillup .. my trk also get the same overall average and has since day one

Here are my stats (everyone should post like this)

MPG: 13.2 first 1000 miles highway driving
- 2019 RAM 1500 Limited
- 22" wheels, 3.21 ratio, 4x4, no e-torque
- 5.7 HEMI
- Average driving speed: 79
- Roads are fairly flat around here
- It is COLD here , 10 to 30 degrees
- I do remote start my truck daily

My first 1000 miles ALL HIGHWAY, I am only getting 13.2 -- My 2010 F150 got 17 to 18 highway.

Hopefully it gets better, but I am no where near advertised highway.. I didn't get 3.92 gear ratio because I wanted better MPG.. hopefully there is an answer to this.

I have your setup, 5300 miles and I'm averaging 16.1. I too had your mileage until i hit 2500-3000 miles on the truck.

I hit the 2,000 mile mark today and the mileage has gotten worse, albeit not by much, it's certainly not getting better. Same driving conditions, mainly city with no hauling or towing, just general driving.

Getting 14.5 MPG, about 600 miles. Daily commuter driving to and from work in the Seattle area. I’m actually stunned at how much the Ram engine can stay off in freeway traffic. If I didn’t have the eTorque I think my mileage would be a lot worse.

I've noticed my truck gets TERRIBLE city mileage. Much lower than it's rated at (Standard v8, Crew Cab 4x4 w/ 3.21.) However, my highway mileage is pretty close to ratings.

If I do a full tank of gas city-only driving, I get 13 or less. Freeway, I get 18-20 depending on how fast I drive.

Side note: My truck saw a significant increase in mileage after my first 1000 miles. I noticed eco mode began kicking on a lot more and started staying on longer at that point, which probably correlates to the change. Others have noted similar changes at 1000 miles, so maybe that's the calibration threshold?

Yeah that doesn't surprise me with mainly city commuting. Our durango barely gets 13 mainly city with my wife driving in the winter.

3000 miles on mine now. No measurable improvement since new.....maaaaaaybe 1 mpg, but I think that's attributable to removing the Duratracs from my Rebel.
