How to find Payload & Towing figures on an ordered vehicle?

I’m still lurking around. Just finished a cross country trip with our camper visiting mostly Utah and Colorado. Still loving my Ram. About 1-1/2 years from now I’ll be looking for a new truck. Probably a heavy duty since we have our eyes on a bigger camper.

    Rear end choices

Depends. If it’s a lower trim level,4x2,quad cab, mostly driven in flat areas, not towing anything heavy…yeh it will be ok. Ask me how I know.

How many Amps to Trailer via 7 Pin Connector

I have 2 Battle Born 100 ah LiFePo4 batteries in my travel trailer, mounted in the pass thru storage area in the front. When towing, my truck puts out a max of 15 amps through the 7 pin. I’ve seen as low as 8 amps, but 12-15 is more common. I think it varies with the difference in voltage of...

Can y'all help me figure out my payload?

6’4” bed does not increase GVWR. It does add 50lbs of weight. Thus it reduces payload by 50lbs.

RAM Payload Definition in Regards to Towing

I notice that the two options that increase the GVWR (4x4 and the EcoDiesel) also add weight primarily to the front of the truck. I wonder if adding weight to the front somehow positively affects overall stability near the limits, thereby allowing the higher gross weight?

At what point did you upgrade WDH bars?

Are you running the SwayPro? I don’t believe they sell a 1200lb bar for that hitch. You may be running the 1500 bars.

At what point did you upgrade WDH bars?

I have the Blue Ox SwayPro. Started with 1000lb bars. Tongue weight of the trailer ranges between 840-900lbs. That plus the weight of the hitch, generator in the truck bed and other miscellaneous cargo. I needed more weight distribution. I upgraded to the 1500lb bars in 2019 and it worked out...

A Comprehensive Guide to Towing with the 2019 RAM 1500 - Everything You Need to Know!

Devildodge speaks the truth. There is NO allowance in the payload number for a driver, passenger nor a hitch. When I first purchased my truck I went to the cat scales the next day. Filled the truck with fuel and put it on the scales. I was not in the truck when it was weighed. Scale says...

Can replacement rear coil springs increase cargo capacity?

Very interesting. I’d like to get one of those Ram 1500s with 7800 GVWR. Also for 2022 the F150 has at least one flavor of their power boost hybrid truck rated at 7300 GVWR. The hybrid package is quite heavy.

    Transmission cooler?

Transmission temps were never a problem (between 175-198) when towing my 6500 lb trailer with my 2015 v6 Laramie quad cab 4x2 with 3.55 rear. Towed the camper 13000 miles with that truck. Trans cooling is very good on these trucks. Only time I saw trans temp above 200 (204) was after several...

    Looking to upgrade

The 3.6 v6 with the 3.21 rear has a tow rating under 5000 (4800 I think?) pounds. With the 3.55 rear it is rated to tow over 7000 (7400 i think?). Quite a difference. Prior to my current truck I had a 2015 Laramie 4x2 quad cab with the 3.55 rear. Towed my camper (6400-6700 lbs depending on the...

    Select Heavy Electric?

I tow my 6700lb camper with the brake controller set to Heavy Electric 3.5 gain. Works well for my trailer. I tried using Light Electric. Started at 5 but when I got to 9 on the gain and still wasn’t happy I went to Heavy Electric. I was surprised it needed that much gain.

Too much for a half ton truck?

I was thinking the same thing. That would probably be the highest payload we’ve ever seen for a 4x4 Limited. Payload must be lower with the 33gal tank and MFT.

    Check engine light on

If the part they are planning to replace is the active front air dam (below the front bumper), I’d try to unplug the wiring harness from the air dam. Ive heard several members here remove the air dam completely and get no check engine light. Doubt that air dam will save $1200 in fuel.

V6 Towing - Washington to Nebraska

We towed our 6500lb travel trailer about 13000 miles with our previous Pentastar powered Ram. It was a 2015 Laramie quad cab, 2wd, 3.55 rear gear. I think it was rated to tow up to 7400lbs with the 3.55 gear but under 5000 with the 3.21. Getting up to highway speed was slow but it got the job...

Is 3.21 best gear for v6?

Speaking from prior experience with 2 wheel drive quad cabs. The 3.21 is too tall a gear for the v6. It shifts gears A LOT, and needs to downshift for ANY acceleration or going up hills. The 3.55 is better. I’ve had both in previous Rams. Got slightly better mpg with the 3.55.

    Trailer sway with air ride

If you set the suspension to aero it will stay in aero, even if tow/haul is switched on.
