At what point did you upgrade WDH bars?

I’ve been using Equalizer 10k w/ 1,000 lb bars with my old TT that had tongue weight of 800-850 lbs.

My new TT is at 900 lbs right now partially loaded. So I expect to end up around 950-1,000 lbs

Wondering if I should step up to the 12k w/ 1,200 lb bars or even spend the extra $75 and go overboard for the 14k w/ 1,400 lb bars

Thoughts?

My trailer is at just under 1000lb TW and I’ve got the 1200lb bars on my blue ox. Had the 1000lb before and they couldn’t handle the job to my liking. The step up was perfect.
 
We had an e2 hitch with 1000 lb bars for our 28’ Jayco that runs about 8000 lb loaded and 1000 lb hitch weight. That hitch was undersized / heavily cranked up bars. Based on some advice from the Jayco Owners Forum, I went with the 1400 lb Equalizer. They suggested that with the longer trailers (hitch to wheels) a higher rated hitch would improve handling. My truck and trailer move more like a single unit now vs the trailer moving independently from the truck with the lighter hitch.

I'm running the pro pride with 1400lb bars. Tongue weight is just under 800. Works perfectly.
 
I have the Blue Ox SwayPro. Started with 1000lb bars. Tongue weight of the trailer ranges between 840-900lbs. That plus the weight of the hitch, generator in the truck bed and other miscellaneous cargo. I needed more weight distribution. I upgraded to the 1500lb bars in 2019 and it worked out much better.

Are you running the SwayPro? I don’t believe they sell a 1200lb bar for that hitch. You may be running the 1500 bars.

Are you running the SwayPro? I don’t believe they sell a 1200lb bar for that hitch. You may be running the 1500 bars.

Previous version of the blue ox that I’m running from 2013 had 1200lb bars. The newer version doesn’t, and the also eliminated the hitch head micro tilt adjustment. I’d go 1500lb with the new setup for sure.

Ohhh, I hate that feeling and love it when you have a well set up WDH hitch. You described it exactly as I have with both the trailer and the truck feeling like ONE unit.
 
Thanks guys. I went ahead and upgraded to the 12k just before our weekend trip. eTrailer had it listed for $1,048 but I was able to find a local dealer for $720.
