Yep. If every po’d owner said “never again” to every vehicle brand, there would be nothing to buy/drive. Even mighty Toyota has been having big problems the last couple years.
I’m in the same boat as others on this thread, dead MGU with no eta on replacement.Has anyone actually pulled a dead MGU apart to identify what these bearings are that are failing? I've replaced a fair number of bearings in my life and it's not rocket science. Maybe there's a solution to service the mechanicals? I'm still driving my RAM so I'm not in position to pull it apart.
It's frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a problem with the system itself (at least in my case) - just crappy, cheap bearings. No excuse for stuff like that.
I checked first if the sound was matching the RPM (changing pitch with engine RPM), then I checked where it was coming from (top of the engine). If your sound matches these two checks, I'd take it in.I just started hearing the noise that makes my truck sound like a battery operated golf cart. It is pretty loud (I can hardly hear the exhaust sounds that I used to love to hear). Is this what the issue is? I guess I need to get it to a dealership and get the recall work and this done, if so.
That would be great if he would write up a how to ( rebuild MGU ) im sure in the future there is gonna be alot more as years and miles get greater.Well, that is great news. It would be a big help to the forum if you’d write up a “how to, how I did this” so, I know there are many of us, that would just rebuild it. Too bad dealerships just don’t do it for us.
Plus, list the bearing source/part number and if any special tools were needed.
It’s good in this case, just repairing/replacing the bearing, doesn’t need to have the dealer reprogram the MGU.
I'm dealing with the same problem as apparently 5100 others as that's the total number on backorder the parts manager told me at the dealership with no idea when they'll be receiving them.....$50000 paper weight currently and no idea what to doI have a 2020 ram 5.7 bought new. My alternator has failed and no hope in sight. Only a dealer can install it apparently, and the dang part isn’t available on back order. Used ones if you can find them are not much cheaper than the new ones. I’ve owned three different ram trucks and this one will be the last. What’s a truck worth that will not run and can’t get repaired. It sure leaves a sour taste in your mouth paying on a vehicle that is useless. Anyone have any ideas where to get on. I’ve been on back order since November.
Not to bust your bubble but they'll just keep kicking the date down the road as that's what keeps happening to me and I assume everyone else....keeps moving 7-10 days at a time and I'll call and they move it again....sorryTalked to my service tech this morning, she tells me it's scheduled for a Feb 10th delivery.
Reading this thread makes me doubt her, hoping she's right.
Will do. I didn't want to write it up on my phone, but will try to type out how I did it. I will start a new thread on Etorque bearing replacement.Well, that is great news. I posted the write up in a new thread, eTorque Bearing Replacement, Fixed Grinding Noise. Hopefully it is helpful. That would be great if he would write up a how to ( rebuild MGU ) im sure in the future there is gonna be alot more as years and miles get greater.
