How to: Add Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane assist, FCW & Auto Hi-beam to Ram 1500

This is probably worth adding to the first page, if your like me and your truck doesn’t have any of the needed connectors for the dasm or rain sensor I found the harness. 68474873AA is the part number I can’t find the thread I got it from but thankyou stranger.IMG_7936.jpeg
So instead of making a custom dasm harness and running it down the driver side, the factory mirror harness runs down the passanger side from the mirror. I only had to pop off the apillar trim, over head light, passanger visor and the end dash plastic to pull the old one and put the new harness in.IMG_7935.jpegIMG_7941.jpeg

The connector in the dash has all the proper wiring, I reconnected the auto dimming and it still works fine. I’m waiting on the glass to install the dasm so I can’t 100% confirm everything works but I don’t see why it wouldn’t and I’ll update it once done. Hope this helps someone like me who wants to add rain sense wipers as well and doesn’t have that connector either, Here are some photos of the old harness compared to the new one.IMG_7929.jpegIMG_7932.jpegIMG_7933.jpeg

That's great. Let us know when you have it up and running and verified it works. One thing we are missing with the custom harness is the wire to activate the windshield heater wires.

Will do do you have a pic of what the windshield heater connector on the glass looks like

Thanks to all that have helped here. I'm definitely going to do the ACC mod. As far as lane keep, the Center Stack is over $1,000 dollars now so I really need to think on that. I use Comma AI in my CRV and it appears I only need ACC for my 2023 Laramie. I'm going to start gathering parts and reading more.

You need both ACC and LKA for the Comma. But you can enable LKA without the center stack. The only thing you lose is the ability to disable the Comma steering when using ACC. Some people like to just use plain ACC sometimes. I never have since having the Comma.

Thanks Vincent, I looked at the Comma site and it says "Support
openpilot requires the car to come equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). So that's why I thew that question out. I'll defer to your advice. I with the center stack would be back to $500 but I may sleuth a used one.

Comma says that because on the 1500, you can't get ACC without LKA.

So I installed my abs/hcu module went through everything in the guide, initialization, abs bleed, etc.

But even after clearing rolls, my stability light comes on and I get the code u1216 that won’t clear. I looked it up the code and I can find vauge references to it being dasm lost connection, seeing my dasm is not installed (I’m waiting on windshield) does that mean I’m good to go?

I don’t have any other codes and if that’s really dasm lost connection I’m assuming when I install it the code will fix itself.IMG_8005.jpeg

If your truck came factory equipped with FCW but not ACC, you need the following: (see attached file for additional information).

HCU: 68415320AA ACC w/Stop and Go - $265.55

ABS Module: 68436462AJ Adaptive Cruise Control w/Stop and Go], [Adaptive Cruise Control w/Stop and Go] After 06/06/2018 - $200.64

ACC Button - 68309592AD SWITCH. Speed Control. Right. = $57.05

Lane Keep for 2021 RAM

Requires:

Center Stack 68312620AG – $468.60
Hey I just picked up a ram 1500 it’s a 2022 lariame I think it came with FCW anyway you can check? I’m not sure what option code I’m looking for

A follow-up on costs for my project. Found a Center Stack for $400 used and both ABS parts for $190 used. Purchased the switch for the steering wheel for $70. $660 isn't bad at all. I will sell my current Center Stack on eBay and looking at sold prices I should get close to $600 for it. That would drop my cost to be below $100 with this mod. My parts will trickle in over the next week.

For anyone who runs into this later I can confirm u1216 is the abs module not seeing the dasm. Once you plug the dasm in the code will go away and your traction control light will turn off.

I had a busy day but my acc swap is complete and I can confirm the harness 68474873AA works. But to back track first thing in the morning I had my friend who does auto glass come swap the windshield.IMG_8155.jpeg
If anyone is curious this is what the raw brackets on the glass for the dasm look like, if your like me and never saw a picture of it.IMG_8154.jpeg

Later in the day I installed the dasm plugged it in the u1216 code causing the traction light went away. This is when I realized my stock rear view mirror 68453788AA due to having extra large bracketry and a slightly different angle then the correct mirror 68325128AA won’t fit. I took my mirror to my bandsaw and cut the excess off and managed to get it to clear the Dasm.IMG_8159.jpegNow this would work as a long term solution except when you fit the plastic shroud this mirror sits a touch higher so the small upper middle plastic won’t fit at all. Also the the mirror part itself when when you adjust it to look straight back hits the main plastic cover so you can’t get it quite right. But this fix will work for me temporarily while I wait for the correct mirror to come from eBay.IMG_8163.jpeg

After everything is said and done it appears everything that routes though the mirror harness I swapped auto dim, rain sense wipers, Dasm defroster and Dasm works. @vincentw56 the heater grid seemed to get warm I’d say the harness is the move but I do plan to put a volt meter on it when I go to swap the mirror.

All the programming applied with no errors and I get the front radar plant mode error so it’s ready for the dealer visit. I’m making a video for the install and I plan to make an updated version of op’s install guide. IMG_8161.jpeg

Shot in the dark here but is there any known alternative places to take the truck to the dealer for plant mode calibration ? One dealer near me won’t touch it, one dealer wants $600 to $1000 one will do it for $307 but can’t get to me for 2 weeks and one will do it for $450 but won’t be for a week and they thought the module was built into the windshield.

So far I am remembering why i absolutely hate dealerships it’s been like pulling teeth even trying to talk to someone if i can find someone with witech 2.0 in Florida can they do it?
