No one shuts off their engine to pump gas?

I've never heard this at a gas station.
In my 30 years of driving, I have never shut off a vehicle to pump gas. I rarely see anyone else in my area shut off their vehicles to pump gas either.

I think it depends where you live (state wise) everyone seems to turn the off here in MA. In theory it's against the law to leave it running.
I don't think is against the law or (if) you will be prosecuted for it ( except if your Trump, lol) but, all gas station do have this policy and plenty of signage asking to shut off your engine and no smoking when pumping fuel.

It is against the law, as I said where I live. Fire code specifically.
"2205.4 Sources of Ignition
Smoking and open flames shall be prohibited in areas where fuel is dispensed. The engines of vehicles being fueled shall be shut off during fueling. Electrical equipment shall be in accordance with NFPA 70."

The "prosecution" is a fine if you are caught.

Also the signage you refer to is also per code\laws, the stations are forced to put those up...

"2205.6 Warning Signs
Warning signs shall be conspicuously posted within sight of each dispenser in the fuel-dispensing area and shall state the following:
1: No smoking.
2: Shut off motor.

3: Discharge your static electricity before fueling by touching a metal surface away from the nozzle.
4: To prevent static charge, do not reenter your vehicle while gasoline is pumping.
5: If a fire starts, do not remove nozzle—back away immediately.
6: It is unlawful and dangerous to dispense gasoline into unapproved containers.
7: No filling of portable containers in or on a motor vehicle. Place container on ground before filling."

Your right, is illegal here too in Florida, according to Trooper Steve is even illegal to leave the keys in the ignition even with the engine off.

I think I recall that somewhere to.

Kind of the same thing if you are drunk and sitting in your car in the driver's seat and not driving. It's still considered drunk driving if your keys are in the ignition even if the engine is off.

Commonwealth v. Robert McGillivary
This is a case that happened in MA, went to the supreme court and was upheld leaving the keys in the ignition is considering operating, so leaving the keys while you pump gas could mean that the car is being "operated".

Likely could be some wiggle room as the fire code requires the "The engines of vehicles being fueled shall be shut off during fueling" and operating the car and engines are different. Leaving the keys in the ignition should be fine as the fuel pump as long as the engine is off (at least in MA).

Maybe Ram can make devices for gas stations to use that when they see\hear a Ram honk 3 times while someone is fueling it automatically dials 911 and reports someone broke the laws. About as useful as the current thing with Ramcares trying to gaslight 95.1% of the people on this forum who voted that our answers and the question itself was invalid and pointless.

I guess I stirred the pot, but actually it's a different thing I was thinking. The thread is so long, I forgot it was about leaving it run, without the fob, and was thinking it was leaving the fob in the vehicle, when off, which was what I was posting on. That is something that also didn't use to happen, but now does. I have never heard the horns chirping like that before, but hers, and six others did.

Well, its hunting season again and guess what I did? Yep, I jumped out to open the gate and shut the door, beep, beep, beep, ****!

Any update or was this just a tease?

I think I'm just gonna disconnect the horn until after hunting season.
Tazer says they can eliminate it, but they are over $300.

The good news is when they steal your truck using a relay attack you will get three beeps as they drive off with your truck! Great job manufacturers.

And the Kill3Honk feature only works 80-90% of the time.
The 3 honk horn doesn't bother me at all. What does, is not being able to move the truck without the door closed, and the seat belt on. Just today, I wanted to move the truck 10 feet in the driveway. It's a pain to have to buckle up to do that.

You don't have to buckle to move the truck as long as door is shut

They are crazy now. I got out after witnessing an accident to talk to the cops. I left it running while I talked to them with the door open. After 5 or 10 minutes, the truck shut off, and locked the parking brake. I got back in and restarted the truck. Parking brake would not release. I kept trying every thing to get it to release. No luck. I had to shut the truck off, take seat belt off, open and close the door, reinstall seat belt, and restart the engine before it would move.
