I'm in the US, New York to be specific. Sorry, not a down payment, but a deposit. They said it would be applied as part of my down payment once the truck came in.

On top of the 5%, they also required a full loan approval (hard credit hit), instead of just a pre-approval. Their reasoning for both was something like "dealers were placing orders acting as customers so that they'd get the truck faster to sell on the lot". Also claimed that policy came down from Ram, but certainly seems like it's something they both made up after hearing this feedback. When I ordered my Crosstrek, I think I had to do a $100 refundable deposit. I appreciate any info you can get!

I originally emailed 20+ dealers in my area but only heard back from maybe 6. So far I've visited the 2 that gave me the best deal. But seems like it's time to reach out to those other 14 and hopefully find a more reasonable dealer. I really wish I lived closer to MD or the other recommended dealers I've seen on this forum. Seems like they take away a lot of this headache.
I am in NY as well...my friend is always looking for a new customer. LOL!

Oh I see your location as "Macedon NY" now 🤦‍♂️. That's actually only ~2.5 hours from me. If you think your friend could help me out, I would definitely be willing to make that drive since the dealers near me are not the greatest it seems. Although would be ideal if I only had to make that drive when the truck comes in.

Good luck! I will let you know what other kind of inside info I can get for you. Definitely worth the 2.5 hour trip if it works out for you in your state and I hope it does. Heck, the market is so screwed up right now I’m not opposed to flying or driving a rental car further and then driving the vehicle back home after picking up. Just crazy times.

5% is insane.
Should be $500-1000. Likely nonrefundable due to being a custom order.
They can't lock you into buying the vehicle, also a loan approval is null and void as a custom order takes longer then the 30-60 days a loan offer stays active for

The problem I had it places nearby are so stuckup they took the estimate from MD and threw it out claiming, it's so far you arent going to prices like that around here.
Joke was on them, I flew down and drive the truck back. Was around $1500 in expenses but saved 3-4 times that.

I contacted several dealerships in NY, and they were the worst out of any nearby state I reached out to (i'm in MA).
I emailed around 60 dealerships within 300 miles for reference.

Crazy times for sure. I'm really starting to lean to just ordering from MD and selling my car outright since the dealers around me are not willing to work with me at all. But I guess I should reach out to a few more dealers before I go that route.

I was expecting a $1k deposit and some sort of pre-approval. But hearing the 5% and full approval already had me hesitant before the whole trade-in ordeal.

I'm having the same issue, I mention MDs quote and they find every excuse in the book as to why I'm not actually getting a good deal and that they can not match that number. This second dealer I went to was in PA so I guess NY and PA both suck dealer wise lol

Lots of dealers work together, and if they all deny fair pricing for people who will not travel to get something elsewhere they are stuck with higher margins.

And probably stuck with lot fees the longer it sits on their lot also!

Bronco, just make sure whatever you do with your existing vehicle that you keep in mind the tax credit. Pretty sure it’s different in every state, but in my state since I traded in my vehicle to the dealer, I had 60 days to get into something newer and it’s severely discounted the sales tax.

Car tax in NY is only 4%.
Assuming he is able to trade it into a dealer, he only saves $920 on taxes.

Also from what I can tell NY law required you to trade it into the selling dealer, not anyone else you want to. Needs to be on the same sale\order.
Page 11

The receipt amount subject to tax does not include: • any trade-in allowance for motor vehicles taken in trade (see Trade-ins below);

The amount of the credit the dealer gives to the purchaser for any motor vehicle (or other tangible personal property) taken in trade, and accepted as part payment on the purchase of a motor vehicle, may be deducted from the taxable receipt amount, but only if the motor vehicle (or other property) taken in trade is intended to be resold, even if to a scrap yard

Getting a better deal elsewhere will be more worthwhile. Assuming it's more then the 4% of the sale price at the buying dealer.

This is more of me not understanding, but don't I save on my county tax as well? That's also 4%, so 8% total for county and car tax giving me a savings of ~$1840.

Yea I would hate to lose out on that tax credit. Even with MDs great quote, losing out on that tax credit would essentially be the same as buying the truck near me for $2k more. Plus it removes the headache of finding a buy for my trade-in.

Just discovered the dealer a few minutes away from me is getting in almost my exact build, only difference is it has the Night Edition instead of the Elite Package (but still has Multi-Function Tailgate and Bed Utility Group). But same color and every other option. Just called and requested they email/call me when the truck comes in so 🤞. At this point, I think I'd gladly pay a couple thousand more if I can get a good trade-in value and have the truck 4+ months sooner.

The night edition is so much better than the elite trim (or 25th anniversary). What color?

Patriot Blue Pearl. I do like the Night Edition, just not as much when it's on the blue which is why my build stuck with the chrome.

I'm not joking when I say, it is literally identical to my build besides flipping those 2 packages.
That color looks much better in black when you see them side by side. The headlights and taillights and grill all look great with that color.

Check the payload. The tailgate kills it. You could be down around 1100 lbs. There's a website you can look on the Vin

I'll have to look at it closer. Don't think I've ever seen that combo in person before. I'm sure I will love it either way, just not the extra $3k it adds lol

This is probably sad and may get my man card revoked but, payload and towing capacity isn't a big factor for me. 90% of this trucks usage will be home remodel projects and hauling stuff to the dump.

they have this exact color combo at MD - no rambox though. Pics look really nice - i prefer the elite to the night edition but I think is mostly because I want a change. I am blacked out. LOL!

I didn't even think of checking MD for something similar to my build. Looks like that ones missing the Multi-Functional tailgate too. But seeing those photos of Patriot Blue with Night Edition...I think I'm going to really like this truck when it comes in.

Think I've decided to call back tomorrow and see if I can put my name on and a deposit down on this Limited coming in.

I love the blue with the night edition. This was my first choice, but I had to go with Billet Silver because a deal to good to pass up came along.
