2023 Limited Custom Order Help

I got a cash offer through carmax and carvana, both were around $21k. The appraisal from the dealer 3 days ago was $21,500 and told me I could probably get $22k if I really pushed. Dealer today told me cars value was $19k and estimated by the time my truck came in, it would be worth $16k.
That is a unique situation. Trading a truck for one that has to be ordered. I can understand their dilemma with the future value.

I don't see a good option for that. I don't think you'll find any dealer to give you a firm price today for "tomorrow's" value without it being lower. All bets point toward the market continuing to decline. In your situation, you have to find a dealer you trust the most and go with them, hoping they don't screw you when your truck arrives. It is a risk for them, to give you a value now that could be less later. If you could get them to say that would honor a KBB or Carmax purchase price in the future, that might be the best you get.

You could look at it like this though and make you feel better. Assume you were going to finance the truck. Start taking the monthly payment and put them in the bank. If it is 3 months, then you will have $3000 or so saved up to offset the trade value.

I completely understand that they estimated a lower future price. I was more trying to call out how far their today trade-in value was from what my car is actually worth.

They offered to let me buy a 2022 Limited they had on the lot today for the same trade-in price. To me it just made no sense to do that when I could go to a different dealer and get almost $3k more today for any vehicle on the lot.

10 months is bogus.
Mine was built and delivered in 3 months.

I traded my old truck to carmax and didn't even bother at the dealer.
Most legit dealers will accept a carmax value for a trade in though.
I ended up getting 37.5k and I had dealerships offering me like 21k for it lol. This was early this year when inventory was really bad and nothing was on the lots too.

You don't need to trade your truck in at the dealership you are buying from, you save taxes but you lose way more money. Just trade it in at Carmax when your new truck comes in imo.

That makes me feel a lot better. Was hoping to get the truck around April. Dealer was adamant that it would be 8 months and didn't believe me when I mentioned this forum with several people getting them in 3-4 months.

In hindsight, this is probably what I should have done and said at the dealer today. Just took my trade-in out of the equation. I admittedly got flustered when I saw the low numbers. I guess I was really hoping to get the tax credit and then also keep my loan payments lower.

Consider using VinSmart over the KBB junk. KBB isn’t nearly as accurate & dealers go by Black Book Value anyway. They use KBB to squeeze that extra amount out of you. VinSmart breakdown helped me get more for my trade.

Not sure if Ram is like the other manufacturers, but I bet they are. He may be saying 10 months because they don't get that many allocations. Dig really hard into their allocation availability. If they are low volume on the trim of Ram you're wanting, them they could be right that it will take 10 months. Or, if they have a few orders in front of you.

I ran into this with a GMC I ordered last year. Never got it because the dealer didn't get any Denali allocations. They mainly sold let trim models and my order at in the queue for 9 months before I bought a Ram.

I would be very hesitant to deal with a dealer that isn't up front about the allocation and when they get them. They should be able to show you their history and give you some expectation about how soon it will be. They won't have any sitting around because they have to use them each week. Also, if they have another Ram dealer in their company, ask if they share allocations. That can help get one more quickly.

At least from what I leaned for FCA
Allocations are for unpaid vehicles.
When you order it you put a down payment to lock in your incentives and price, and the vehicle is "built for you" and not part of the dealers allocations.
If they will not take a down payment, it's because they want to give you a jacked up price when it comes in vs what you agreed for it.

The dealer just wants you to buy crap off their lot.

Much better than the estimated $16k from the first dealer but still pretty disappointing that it's ~$2300 below what I was expecting. Not sure why the dealer I just had appraise my car told me $21,500 if I'm not getting near that.

Having to drop that much more for this truck is a bit of a tough pill to swallow, but in reality, what is another $3k on a $73k truck 🤷‍♂️ Decisions, decisions.

No offense but if 3k is a hard pill to swallow, you might be better off either keeping what you have for a few more years, or getting something half the price.
You can always have the mentality of "what is anther X when I am spending Y" and it just gets worse and worse.

Tough pill to swallow was probably the wrong phrase there. I more meant that I came up with an ideal and what I thought was realistic purchase plan but discovering that it was pretty far off doesn't feel great. The extra $3k isn't a huge deal, just not what I had my heart set on.

When I went back it was still at 37k.

A few days later I went back to auctally trade it in (offers only last 7 days) and they changed their mine and set it to 32k.

I was pissed as hell and called corporate and complained because I was buying a truck 1700 miles away and I needed to trade this in, but no way was I taking a 5k hit.
They ended up going back up to the 37.5k trade in value and claimed "something was wrong in our system on the last appraisal" or some stupid crap like that.

I also was disappointed as I lost out on around 2k worth of rebates and incentives as they "do not stack" which kinda sucked, but I at least knew about it before I locked all my payments in (except for $500 I found out later wouldn't work).

I wonder if that’s just a dealer to dealer thing - the first Ram Laramie I bought before this one, the dealer stacked a ton of rebates & incentives on there. Could be because they were doing employee pricing also, I’m not sure.

They put all the incentives and rebates into the deal so you see a lower price. Then
comeback and say you did not qualify for certain Incentives, rebates, and that some
would not stack. So you end up paying a higher price for the vehicle, because you
have already invested the time into this deal.

When I ordered my '21 Laramie, We did not even talk about price. So they thought
they had me at MSRP. After it came in and I was there to sign the paperwork, I pulled out
Criswell's 12% off MSRP Price and threatened to walk away from the Deal. What I ended up
paying was $62K on a $71K MSRP and that included a 8 yr/125,000 Mile Extended Warranty.

This is my dilemma right now, accepting their trade in price or hoping that carmax will offer a higher buy price once the truck comes in. I guess I don't have to make that decision today and can just order the truck if I want to. Either way, I'm likely coming in $3k+ short on the original purchase plan I had.

I thought Elite included the HK Raidio but it's also in Level 1...I am not seeing a price adjustment when selecting both like with the 2022 10th anniversary. The website will not give any details on elite however a member posted previously that the radio was part of the 'interior' upgrade.

  • 4 Adjustable Cargo Tie-Down Hooks by Mopar

And the radio (HK) is listed under the Level 1/2 equipment groups.

I asked about this last night at the dealer. The salesperson printed me off the description of both the Elite Package and the Level 1 Equipment group. The HK system was said to be in both, but adding the Elite package did not adjust the price of L1 group. Based on what Eighty said, I'm guessing this is a bug in their system and Elite doesn't actually come with HK.

I mean it's just the same university edition as the 2022s just renamed isn't it?
That didn't include speakers also but who cares. The Alpines probably sound better then the HK.
