Transmission falling out of Drive on downshift, blinking, displaying "shift to P" and back

It seems that Chrysler Fiat has a bigger problem on its hands. My mom was looking at possibly getting a new Grand Cherokee (the rental I was given during my recent bouts with the attempted repairs). She discovered that the transmission issue is widespread throughout the Chrysler Fiat line. If you search any Jeep vehicle for "mechanical issues" you will get several links to the same transmission problem that the 1500s have. They know about it! Keep your records. I am still waiting for a response from McDonald at Stellantis, but I have my Lemon Law attorney ready to go in case the proposal isn't acceptable. @RamCares

I believe the Jeep normally has the 850RE, while based on the 8HP75...and it is actually made by Stellantis. It's not as robust as the ZF-made 8HP75 transmissions.

With that said, this sounds more like a software/electronics problem than a mechanical problem.

You're probably correct. Something company wide.

This just reminds me of the ZF 9-Speed in my wife's car. ZF makes the transmission but Honda did the programming. It had a habit of grenading the torque converter until they did a software update.

My dad used to say that the more "gadgets" (i.e. options, tech, etc.) in a car, the more things to go wrong. Plain logic.

Buck eye nation. Do you have a Ram 1500 5.7 gas motor. Just happened to me again on my way to work 5 mins after I left my house and almost got rear ended then the person behind me almost got rear ended cause I had to stop in the middle of a turn and come to complete stop to shift to park and then back to drive. This is getting dangerous. Brought it up to my dealership again and they said they need to duplicate or have check engine light on to diadnose.

I do have the gas 5.7. Yes, it has the potential to be very dangerous. It has happened to me twice while turning left at an intersection with vehicles behind me. I've almost been rear-ended. RAM needs to address this as there will inevitably be a collision with another vehicle. @RamCares I am working with Stellantis this week to determine next steps. I will either begin the buy-back process or receive a cash payment. I have consulted with a Lemon Law attorney here in Los Angeles but have not yet engaged her, as I am waiting to see what RAM (Stellantis) offers. (California, though it's become a sewer to live in, does have some of the most buyer-friendly Lemon Law statute anywhere.

Yes this is exactly what I’m expereniencing and also the same with dealership. They don’t know where to start looking since there is no code after it happens

To me it just seems like they are dragging their feet man. If your Lemon Law lawyer feels you have a case I would go ahead and engage them. It's no cost to you, as Stellantis would be on the hook for the lawyers fee.

Have u heard anything yet
Happened again. Coming up to stop sign snd truck beeps and instrument cluster says shift to park. I shift to park then back to drive. Today I had NJ State Trooper behind me and I thought he was gonna pull me over when he seen truck go from drive to park then back to drive at stop sign. This is rediculous that they can’t figure this out. I truly believe it is a software issue not hardware issue.

I have been given the option to start the buy-back process or receive a payment. Since I leased my truck and have a a little over a year left on the contract, I'm leaning towards taking a cash payment. Of course, my terms will be the payoff of the lease plus money for my time and hassle with the three attempts at fixing the truck. I really love the truck and I continue to hope they'll find the fix. However, if I can get the lease paid in full and some extra, I'll be happy to wait twelve months and turn it back into the dealer. If they don't accept my proposal, I will engage the lemon law attorney here in Los Angeles.

I'm not an engineer by any stretch, but it seems to me that it is a software issue as well. I have also discovered that you do not need to actually shift back to "P" to correct the slip. It has also happened to me during a turn in a busy intersection and I was able to quickly flip the shift knob to "N" and then back to "D" and it worked.

The situation just sucks. Just put a mopar lift in truck and $1400 dollars worth of tires snd $700 tonnahue cover and I don’t even feel comfortable driving it as I don’t want to get rear ended.

Something is obviously wrong. It's also obvious that it's not common. Whatever is occurring, it will take a bit of investigating to uncover the cause(s).

Too bad Stellantis is not getting out ahead of this.

With all these reports, I wonder what liability will be ascertained, and to whom, should a collision (or worse, an injury or death) occur because of this failure?

Keep pushing, guys, and keep us informed.

Definitely a safety hazard. There will undoubtedly be an accident that will be caused by this issue. It's almost happened to me and a couple of others on here that I know of. Will be a massive liability for them, especially with all of these communications, emails and evidence trail of attempted fixes. @RamCares should really be out ahead of this. Doesn't appear that they are.
