Very interesting read, guys. I am happy to see the hacks that worked.
I Wanted the 360 camera on my 22 Rebel but it wasn't available at time of ordering. I too would like the front facing camera if for nothing else, the benefit of off road. I am old school and always use the mirrors, I use the backup camera for hooking up to a trailer. Will be interested in seeing if these mods work for Uconnect 5 . I don't plan on messing with it just yet, until I know all the software bugs have stabilized, as I would not want warranty to void just yet.

You could piece one together by buying a cheap RCA video cable and two connectors from Mouser.

Who is mouser? I was looking at just adding the connectors to the camara wiring , skipping the whole RCA connection. I just don't know what the pins are called.

Sorry about that- I meant to update with a link for you, but I got busy.

I did an experiment where I made my own connector and compared it to the Z automotive connector that they charge $25 for. I couldn’t tell any difference when viewing through the infotainment screen, so if you want to save a good amount of money, then DIY is a pretty good option.

So really as long as you use the 2 leads and turn that into a video rca, anything you want as far as camera will work? As far as an aftermarket camera. You will just need to get a 12v switched power. Ie a add a circuit to a switched 12v connection. Am I understanding all of this right?

Basically yes.

I'm sure this has been addressed, but I keep getting mixed answers. I purchased the KAODTech bypass harness to use with my AlfaOBD. Will that work for this? I read somewhere it cannot access the radio functions or something?

Does anyone know if adding a front camera with these methods will work with ‘22 Limited 12” with nav?

It’s the same method for 2022, except your radio has different connectors, so you’ll need different wire terminals to crimp on, and the wires go in different pin positions.

Do you know the molex connector numbers for this? I can get those and make a writeup about the process for uConnect5 when I do mine.

The terminals are TE Connectivity 2272196-2.
The camera signal wire is pin 25, and the return wire is pin 32, both on the blue radio connector.

Oh wow, you saved me from also having to pull the diagram- thanks!! 👍

did you get your Uconnect five module in yet? I was thinking about starting to try to do some custom programming on one of these modules but don’t want to use the one in my truck if I don’t have to. Just kind of wondering what the leadtime on getting a spare one actually is.

I installed a front facing camera some months ago by following this thread and everything worked perfectly until I updated the firmware of my uconnect 8.4 and now i have only a blue screen when I activate the cargo cam. -> Is it possible that I have to change to other 2 pins? sounds very ilogical for my...but you never know :S. It could also be a coincidence :(
Its a RAM 1500 2019 Sport Canadian Edition with European customtronix uconnect.
Any Ideas?

You may need to check that it’s enabled correctly. Maybe a setting was switched off?

Since cargo cam doesn’t work for 8.4” non nav, could I wire the third party cam into same place as the regular rear cam and use a switch?

No, because the rear camera is digital, and uses an lvds cable. Another option is to try enabling VehConfig 8: Auxiliary Trailer Camera Present, and see if the aux camera soft keys will show up. Then you can use one of those inputs on the radio.

That is because 2021 Rams offer the aux trailer cameras, those are the pins they use, and all 2021s have the aux trailer camera wiring populated from the radio up to the first in-line connector. Just remove the wires that are there now, and insert your new ones for the front camera.
Does this mean one can activate more then 1 rear/trailer camera? (Let’s say a backup and 2 trailer side cameras?) and switch between them all? What the options in AlfaOBD to enable this?
