I'm not feeling this new Tundra either, at least in terms of looks.

If I was to go with a non-RAM in the future, I would likely consider the Silverado Trail Boss now that they fixed the interior and even will have a ZR2 version.

But who knows, maybe RAM's 2023 refresh will surprise me, but for the first time in over a decade, I don't feel the need to go with a different vehicle after 3 years of ownership. I typically get bored and want something else, but I love my Rebel and except for the Raptor or TRX, I don't feel like I'm missing out with any other truck on the market.

Looks like TFL posted a video of their first highway trip. 18.5 MPG on the road with the Tundy, WELL below EPA rating which is to be expected anytime twin turbos are involved. Also commented that the driver seat sucks.

Sounds exactly like the outgoing Tundra. Poor MPG and comfort. Imagine that.

Well, it's brand new right, lets see what happens when it breaks in. Isn't that a major motto on his forum as well regarding RAM mpg :)

Also, they bough a TRD Pro with 33" tires right? The mpg should be compared to what a Rebel gets in the real world. I'll wait to see what some more videos when they get back.

No, TuRD Pro isn't available until summer. They got a Limited.

If they get 5 MPG more after "break in" it'll be a miracle. That truck is going to be nowhere near EPA rating, just like the Ford.

Oh, must be the TRD off-road package.

Who knows how they were driving it to determine how close that highway mpg is off. Also, my Rebel IS NOWHERE NEAR the mpg stated on the EPA sticker. Plenty of threads about our mpg as well. My F150 2.7L Ecoboost got closer to the EPA rating than my RAM has.

Yeah I am in the same boat, my city driving is close to sticker but my highway is way under. Actually my highway is under the combined number. When you consider one of the reasons I bought the truck was for long highway trips it becomes particularly painful.

You know why right? Because FCA decided to blanket state all the RAM 1500s with the same EPA rating. Which is legal, but not necessarily fair. When your test truck is has 18" street tires with 3.21 rear axle, and you use that same rating on a 33" A/T with 3.92 rear axle, that's pretty unfair to those who see that window sticker and actually hope for something accurate.

Even GM, to their credit, did an exception on the Silverado Trail Boss, knowing full well it wouldn't meet the same mpg rating in the real world like it's standard trucks. This was covered by TFL when they were testing the mpg on the Trail boss, Rebel and Raptor.

My real highway mpg is also below the combined EPA. Heck, I'm lucky sometimes to get my highway mpg to meet my city EPA rating. Though where I live, we have a lot of inclines even on the highway. To be fair, I'm familiar with trucks on 33" tires and a high axle ratio and knew coming in that the mpg on the sticker was a joke, but for some people, they have no idea and are in for a shock if they actually plan on doing a lot of miles.

Wow, though that should be on my Rebel, closer than my original sticker lol.

TRX is more a 3/4 ton though right, since that frame is a hybrid 1500 with some HD reinforcement. Congrats on having that thing by the way.
Thanks. I wish it was more like a 3/4 ton...the payload capacity is only 1108 lbs. So it doesn't carry any more than a heavily-optioned Rebel or Limited.

I’m not disputing what you’re saying at all, but wanted to add that from what I’ve read on TRX forums, those are numbers are not accurate either.
Time will tell once I break it in and start “driving” it. But so far I’m getting 12.4 as an average. On the whopping 100 miles that I’ve put on it.
I figure 8 will be a good number after I break it in.

That’s not bad. Is that pen and paper method?

It’s what the EVIC says. Totally trustworthy. Can’t do a real calculation until my first fill up.

Looks like RAM isn’t the only one that had growing pains with the new generation rollout:
