Why is the crew cab with the 6.4 bed not a popular option?

This thread makes me miss my ‘03 GMC 1500HD SLT Quadrasteer. Crew cab, 6’-6” bed, turning radius of a midsize car…just awesome.

But I’ll echo others here…(1) Maneuverability, (2) Garage size, and (3) no RamBox option are problematic for the longer bed, coupled with the desirability of the (huge) rear seat in the crew cab.

I’m surprised to hear people call the 6’4” a “long bed”, I’ve always associated that term with a 8’ bed

5.5’ = short bed
6.5’ = regular bed
8’ = long bed
Yes back in the day when you were talking about regular cab trucks the 8' was a long bed and 6'4" a short bed. These days people usually say long bed when talking about the longest bed available for a certain trim.

I brought my truck back to the dealer I bought it from for some warranty work and a service writer was walking by as I was getting out of the truck and he even said "man that's a big truck". We both chuckled lol 20210622_115320.jpg

Truck would actually be shorter as a long bed with the tail gate closed😉😂
The tailgate won't close in a long bed unless you put it in diagonally but that's not possible because there are usually two bikes in the back.

I'm still driving my 2014 crew cab 6'4" and love it. FIts in the garage without a problem. I can keep a 6' ladder in the bed and have 2 car seats in the back seat. I'm waiting for my 22 crew cab 5'7" to be built. I know i'm going to miss the long bed. but to me, ramboxes were more important than 9" of bed space. Once you've had those, you can't live without them. I don't know how i'm gonna fit all my crap into the shorter ramboxes though.
