Why is the crew cab with the 6.4 bed not a popular option?

I'm still driving my 2014 crew cab 6'4" and love it. FIts in the garage without a problem. I can keep a 6' ladder in the bed and have 2 car seats in the back seat. I'm waiting for my 22 crew cab 5'7" to be built. I know i'm going to miss the long bed. but to me, ramboxes were more important than 9" of bed space. Once you've had those, you can't live without them. I don't know how i'm gonna fit all my crap into the shorter ramboxes though.
If the new HDs had the 5th-gen cabs, I might’ve switched just to have a 6’-4” bed with RamBoxes.

That was my original plan, back when the HDs were rumored to be updated to 5th gen for the '21 MY! I test drove both a CC and MC 2500 and both were deal breakers.
 
The tailgate won't close in a long bed unless you put it in diagonally but that's not possible because there are usually two bikes in the back.

You can haul two full size (Dirtbike’s) in a 6.5ft bed with the gate close.

Long bed all the way, for me. Looks better in terms of proportions. Smoother ride. Better stability when towing. Conversely, a short bed is much better for off-roading, so it really depends on what you're doing with your truck.

I'll be mostly highway driving, hauling random junk and yard debris (like long branches, so the more space in the bed, the better), almost never have to parallel park, and don't currently have a garage big enough to put even a short bed in (our current one doesn't even fit my JGC, too tall). So, easy choice for me.

Only negative is a larger turning radius, but it was gonna be a jump from my JGC to a truck regardless so what's a few more feet?
 
Just curious why I don't see any at the dealers. I would of loved to have a crew cab with the 6.4 bed but found non when shopping around. Sure I could of ordered it, but didn't want to wait. I have 4 wheelers and a go cart so having a 5.7 bed was too short for me.

i saw the FIRST CC long bed Ive seen on a 5th gen literally just last week, and i made measurements before ordering and opted for the short bed. seeing that thing in person convinced me i was right to not order it, it would not fit in my garage with any degree of practicality and would be substantially more cumbersome in parking lots not designed for longer trucks( Think some POS minivan giving your rear bumper a kiss because You had to take up the front of the spot behind you so your nose doesnt get clipped. had that happen with an '05 2500.)

dirt bikes are smaller then street bikes. We tried to put a r1 in my truck and had to put it diagonal to close the tailgate. 1 more inch wouldn't have mattered.
 
My last bighorn was a CC long bed and man could I pack that thing out. Incredible ride on the freeway empty/loaded/towing. But holy moly did it turn like a Mack truck. My new Rebel feels like it has half the turning radius. IMO the 6'4" CC proportions look a little funny (at least at stock height) so aesthetically I am much more pleased with the 5'7". I also noticed a lot more scraping of the front bumper valence while off-roading, even at slow speeds. Friends with the short bed didn't have that issue on the same trails. And as far as my ATVs, I could only fit the smaller 4x4 into the long bed with the tailgate shut if I deflated the rear tires. My big bore 4x4 would have to be on the tailgate a few inches and then the tailgate would actually rise and fall a bit over bumps bc there was hardly any pressure on it to stay opened. So as much as I preferred using the long bed as a "trunk" with the tonneau on to house all my crap (or haul plywood), the short bed is a bit more ideal for my situation at the moment

The guy I responding to was referring to Dirtbike’s not street bikes.

Obviously they are different.

My street bikes have to have the tail gate down with anything but a long bed.

I had a cc long bed and could not tell any difference parking it from a short bed. I will never own a pick up truck with that short bed again. Once you’ve had that extra space it would be really hard to go back IMO.
 
5.7" to 6.4" = 9". Where is the foot coming from?
My apologies for rounding when making a general statement about the noticeable difference in bed sizes. I didn't realize we were being technical. People frequently refer to them as "five and a half" and "six and a half" or if you truncate instead of round "five foot" and "six foot" beds. Rarely do people use the specific inches, unless typing where they can press the a 7 or 4 instead of rounding/truncating. Conversationally though, it's seldom that specific. I thought we were being conversational on this thread. Please excuse my ignorance.
However, if we're being technical, apparently the difference would be 8.9", not 9". ↓↓↓

I never did try turning the front wheels towards each other but I do have a tie down bar that prevents me from doing that.

I drove a Tundra with a 6' 5" bed for 11 years, but it was the equivalent of a Quad Cab. I don't miss the longer bed but I won't go back to a smaller cab again.
 
Someone already mentioned it but I agree that it sounds weird to call the 6'4" a "long" bed. I understand why the term is used, since it's the long option, but it did confuse me the first time I read it. Glad I'm not alone there.
 
If I could have ordered it, I would have got my CC with the 8' bed. Yes
I know it wold not fit in any normal parking space or a Garage.

There were people with the Gen4 Megacabs getting a long bed grafted on the truck.
