My experience with Mark Dodge has been different than most others here. After reading all of the glowing recommendations on the forum I checked them out online and found the truck I wanted yesterday at a decent price and was ready to buy. I felt I got the run around. I was getting ready to fly from MI make the purchase and then drive back. I contacted them and after several hours the salesman could not determine if it was available. He told me it was not marked as sold but could not find it. This morning I contacted him and was told he was delivering a car and would be back in the office at 1:00 pm. (don’t these guys have phones and email?). Here we are 24 hours later and they still can’t tell me if the truck is available. I just now contacted them again asking the status and am now told it was wrecked. No apology, nothing for wasting my time and the truck is still on the web site. Makes me wonder…… I’m really not sure what’s going on but it seems like a strange way to do business and I’m quite disappointed with them.

That sucks. I think sometimes dealers will sell or trade vehicles with another dealership. Sometimes that dealer will mark it as "Sold" and get credit for it from the manufacturer. When he couldn't find it on the lot he may have thought it had been transferred for another dealer and couldn't get confirmation on it.

But over 24 hours to figure it out? In this day and age it should take minutes.

I’m sorry, but you’re upset that it took them 24 hours to get back to you and that’s your complaint with them? Lol. They are selling TONS of cars, I’m sure there very busy. And if he’s delivering a vehicle to a customer then he’s probably driving and can’t look things up or speaking with that customer in person; wouldn’t you be upset if your salesmen ignored you to your face to talk to some potential sale down the road?
No dealership updates their website real time. If you see something you like you have to get in touch with them, and with hundreds of vehicles, the salesman you get isn’t going to know the CURRENT status of every single one, especially when any other salesman could have just closed a deal on it and it wouldn’t yet reflect.

I've bought more new cars than I can remember. That's not the right way to deal with a customer, at the least keep him informed. I shouldn't have had to ask multiple times. Someone knew the status of that truck and should have been asked.

"After several hours..." lolol. It's not like there are three people working there and they talk to each other constantly Personally I would have been fine with the timeline and needing to reach out again, it's just not that big a deal. It's not like they told you "come on down" and you arrived to find the vehicle you flew in for was sold/wrecked/missing. You can be as mad as you want, but I don't think your anger is justified.

Not mad, just disappointed. With all of the high praise I've read here I expected better. One email/text to a group asking what the status is on the xxxx truck probably would have done the trick. I had told him yesterday that I just wanted to know whether or not I should keep looking. It was just a lack of customer attention that I'm not used to when spending this kind of money. It really didn't seem like he cared one way or another if he sold me a 65K+ truck or not. I've been truck shopping for several days now and have not run into anything like this.

I'm over it and have moved on. I've located a couple other trucks that interest me at fairly decent prices considering the current market. That one just hit the bullseye for me.

Have you considered custom building? Mine is significantly less than what I can find on lots anywhere

I would but the lead time is too long. I just sold my 2019 Ram 3500 Diesel dually to a dealer and need to replace it. I don't necessarily need a truck right now but will in the next couple of months. I got what I paid for the 3500 so it won't kill me to pay a little more for a replacement. The one I wanted to buy just happened to check all of the boxes.

Well, I just put a deposit down with Aaron at Mark Dodge for a '21 RAM Classic Tradesman 4x4 Quad/6'4" (DS) specced out the way I wanted. What I really wanted was a Warlock, but that was another $4K at the bottom line, which was beyond my budget. I did manage to put together a build that looks close from a distance, though. I'll do wheel flares and a few other goodies once it arrives.

Tradesman-vs.-Warlock-Compare.jpg

Ended up with about 10% off MSRP, which was far better than any other dealer offered - Aaron said they have less headroom to discount the Classics, otherwise he could have done better. His estimate was 10-14 weeks for build and delivery. I already have my '15 2500 up for sale, but thankfully have a friend with a truck I can borrow if I need to haul anything in the interim.

While not a DT, I do want to thank the folks in this and a few other threads, as the info I gleaned was super-helpful as I researched and negotiated.

Well, I hope they know something we don't. The only source I know of for 2022 production dates is Donlen. And their site says that the DS models aren't starting production until November.

Wait, I'm confused. I thought '21 orders closed back in early May, but you specified '21 in your post.

My Buyer's Order states 2021. I'm a little confused, too, but figure it will sort itself out. Aaron said to txt him early next week and he should have a VIN, which will confirm one way or the other.

Question for those in Ca. I bought a 21 Ram in 21 and instead of being taxed on the sale price they used the MSRP on the sticker. I am looking for a Grand Cherokee for my daughter, if it is a used vehicle, say 2020, will it be taxed on the sale price or the 2020 sticker. Thanks

Is getting taxed on more than you paid strictly a California thing? That seems very, very wrong....
