Nerdrock,

Did your noise issue get fixed? I had what i think is the same issue today. First time i noticed it, and it was with a bunch of stuff in the back seat. I would like to get as much info as i can before i go to the dealer and try to explain it.

Thank...

I got a call from my dealer yesterday and they finally got the noise to duplicate for the tech. They hit the tow / haul switch and the noise stopped. They believe it to be the active noise module on the frame under the driver's seat and intend to replace that. Not sure what else they have in mind, I know it could be bad and I am curious to see if the problem is a little deeper such as what ever drives the module, or a software problem.

Hopefully we will find out soon.

Well, I got my truck back and I have not heard the noise. The active noise control module was replaced and the software was re-installed. The tech was able to replicate the noise by activating the module from the computer, so at the least they know what is making the sounds. Now to see if it is really resolved.

I believe that I heard the light saber sound but much quieter once on Sunday, but my wife told me to quit obsessing!

So less than a week later, the sound is back and it started and was most prevalent with 3 people in the back seat. There is also an aggravating vibration in my accelerator pedal and driver's floor board and comes and goes, but mostly stays.

I am going to say that we still have a problem and this is starting to wear thin on me.

I have a new 2019 bighorn with the same cabin noise that you’re hearing if you put 500 to 600 pounds in the truck it makes this really bad harmonics sound it’s been at the dealer for two weeks they’ve replaced modules, microphone, speakers and they are still unable to Determine the cause they say they will need the truck for another eight weeks so they can get somebody from Detroit down to look at it any suggestions on what I can do ?

I am having a very similar issue with my new 2019 1500. It has that reverberation similar to the lightsaber sound and it seems loudest in the rear behind the driver's seat. It will come and go and my dealer has not a clue, but they have heard it and have it now. I had originally thought that something was touching the exhaust or transmission. The reverberation is strongest at about 1500 rpm's and it will stop as quickly as it starts. Extra people in the back seat seem to cause it to start. I have been reporting this since I got the truck in August but I finally got the noise to replicate at the dealer this last Saturday. This is extremely frustrating and exceedingly annoying. When it happens, it vibrates the floor of the cab and rear door panels.
Omg, I am so happy to read this today! I have had my 2019 1500 Bighorn for a little over a month now and this is Exactly what it sounds like! It starts up around 1200/1500 rpm usually when not accelerating and stops when the RPMs get higher or if you maintain your speed, it will come in waves. It was in service last week, they had it for 3 days and told me they updated the amplifier to the sound system. Guess what, it is still doing it! Now they are telling me that it is the trucks cylinder deactivation system? and I am going to have to live with it, going out of 8-6 valve to 4 to save fuel. Well why would that make a difference if I have passengers in the back or not? I call BS. I am leasing this beautiful truck for the next three years and I don't know if I can handle this horrible sound. First time pick up truck owner and I am so disappointed I didn't listen to the people who told me not to go with Ram, but it is a beautiful truck and I really want to be happy with it but right now I should of bought a Prius... This has to be an Ram issue! I am not imagining this!

I think your dealer is right. Mine goes away when I take off the MDS by using the gear limiter on the stearing wheel.

I have not tried the gear limiter, but my dealer told me that putting it in Tow / Haul would stop the noise. It did not. So I am back at the dealer again and they have had my truck for over 2 weeks.........again.

I do not believe the drive line is the issue as stated above. I have been able to produce the noise standing still in park, but only a couple of times. a drive line issue would present consistently, but mine does not. You can hear the MDS go in and out, to me it sounds like a quiet "chuff", just an exhaust sound and it is not similar to the light saber sound. You CAN stop that sound with the tow haul switch.

Now, they have acknowledged this sound issue as a known problem and claim that a software flash is available and they have opened a star case with Chrysler on this (thanks to this forum). They certainly DO know that this is an issue, I am not convinced that they know the cure. So far they have had my truck as much or more than I have and still they do not have a remedy for the volume on the radio going up and down. That was to be a 4th quarter flash for a well known problem, but the 4th Qtr is not over yet I suppose.

I love my truck, not this loaner I have, but I do not want it back until Ram makes it right. I will not use a gear limiter / tow haul switch to drive and enjoy this truck, it simply should perform and drive as it was intended to.

Wow! I just bought a 19 less than a month ago and having similar issues. Going on a week and half without my truck now and was hoping to get it back today. Instead they replaced the TSB and the noise continues. Kind of frustrating since this is my first Dodge. Kind of makes me wonder if I should have just spent the extra $10k for a Chevy.

OK I got my truck back with new actuators and a new flash for the computer on Friday after Thanksgiving. Not a peep for the first couple of hundred miles and then last night there it was, plain as could be at exactly 1500 rpm's off of the accelerator. My wife and I both looked at each other in disbelief.

It did not continue thank goodness, but unless I miss my guess, it will return with people in the back seat.

Has anyone reading this gotten to a satisfactory resolution on this harmonic, light saber noise problem?

Hello Papa Newms,

Do you know if the dealer applied TSB 08-140-18? This TSB updates the Active Noise Cancellation software in your vehicle.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customer may describe hearing booming/humming/muffled/pulsing noise inside the cabin.

If the sound continues please send us a PM.

Thanks for Asking Lamar - I am told that they did perform this TSB. I have not heard it again since Sunday night. Keeping my fingers crossed.

My big horn is making the same noise. You can make the sound by placing the truck in park and revving the truck to 1500 rpm. I have had my truck in three or four times, the last time I had it in they did some updates and it came back worse. It now makes the noise with someone in the passenger seat. The dealer called the other day and said they want to try and replace the muffler. I was also told that it seems to only be the Big Horns that have this problem. Hopefully this can be solved in a timely manner as I don't want to go through the lemon law process. Maybe I can get the dealer to trade me up a model

After getting that update installed mine still makes the noise as well. I wish there was a way to see if the update got applied or not. If it should correct it and it hasn't it makes me wonder if the update didn't take or wasn't installed correctly.

I went on a trip this last weekend and especially when I had two people in the backseat, the lightsaber noise came back, just like before. Loudest at 1500 rpm's. It is intermittent with only a passenger or just by myself, but the problem has NOT been resolved.

It happens regardless of the radio being on or off. What's interesting is that 2 handed cart that caused the sounds in the video is pretty light. maybe 10lbs? But, it's a long metal object that like you mentioned, might effect some resonance or whatever. That said : 80 lbs of dogs back there doesn't change it, but 500 lbs of human back there does
Wonder if the people in back is not weight, but people with cell phones?
