I have a new generation 2019 Ram 1500, I've had my truck to the dealer 2x now and they can't duplicate the creaking noise. The noise is usually in the morning & when turning to the right. It sounds like it is coming from the steering column? Anyone have the same problem??

If you are in the USA, send a PM to @RamCares with your info and complaint, they offer to contact your dealer to escalate the attention given to you at the next service visit. Or so they say.

Hi henise524,
We're sorry to hear that your dealer has been unsuccessful in duplicating your concern. We suggest having them drive with you so you can duplicate the creaking for them. If you decide to return to your dealer, please send us a private message and we'll gladly assist you during that process.

I have the same issue. I had it to the dealer and they thought they got it but it is now back. There is another thread on point, if you search "creaking". There are some DIY tricks involving socks but I'd rather get it fixed through a dealer.

Thanks, the dealer lubed a u-joint, but still not fixed. It's usually only in the mornings which is very odd..... They have a rental I used last time that was doing the same thing. So just waiting on them to check out their own rental.

Thank you. I'm thinking it's a known problem, I've seen multiple forums on it, but everyone has done diff things.

Went to the dealer twice for the creak while turning, they were no help. Literally put a sock in it and haven’t dealt with any creaking since. No more headaches from the dealer this way. I posted detailed pics where to place the isolating material (sock lol) in another thread.

Mine started the creak this past week at 8300 miles. Found your pics, as soon as I grabbed that harness, I knew it was the source. Cut a thick piece of rubber and wedged it between the harness and bracket, quiet. That noise would drive me nuts while talking on the phone. Could not hear it with the radio. Thanks for the pics.

Thank you! I'll have to give that a try! Just very annoying!

Can you post them in this thread again? I cant find those pictures. Thanks!

I've just had a read of this, its the first time I've searched for "creaking sock" on a car forum, well anywhere actually

I had this issue for a while and one dealership couldn’t figure it out. It was getting worse and worse. It even would sound like it was sometimes coming from different places. Almost always from the driver side dashboard area. Although some people claim that the body mount “fix” didn’t do it for them, it worked for me. Here is a pic of what they did.

Hi All,

I found my creaking steering wheel issue today. I have a 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel with 2000 miles on it. The creaking noise would happen more often when I'm turning the steering wheel in a slow turn. It sounded like the noise was coming from the clock spring right behind the air bag but that was a red herring. The noise was actually coming from the aluminum coupler at the base of the steering shaft inside the cab. The noise would telescope up the steering shaft and the steering wheel acted like a speaker. There are 2 cheap rivets holding it together. You can feel the slop and feel the creaking noise very easily when turning the steering wheel while you have your hand on the coupler. I sprayed some lubricate at the top of the coupler. It took a few minutes to work in the lubricant but eventually the noise went away. If the noise does come back I will drill out one rivet at a time and install a bolt with a locking nut and tighten it down good. I have included pictures. Please let me know if this help anyone out.

Bless you. I've got a 2021 Rebel as well, 4500 miles on it. Just started hearing the creaking sound today.

Picked up truck Friday night after rack and pinion replacement. Didn't hear the noise as expected upon leaving, but it got down into the 40's overnight and the first drive of Saturday morning would be the test and it failed. Noise is still present. Took it back in and dropped it off at the dealer. They have replaced the clock spring, added anti-vibration tape, and replaced the steering column (thanks to this forum) over the 2 years I have had the truck with no luck. I have tried the sock trick with no luck as well. A few times it has been in, I have been told that they couldn't duplicate the noise or it wasn't loud enough to be a concern. RAM cares has gotten involved and I was told that a TA would get involved to help dealer with the issue, dealer says they have not heard from the TA.......so the struggle continues. One good thing that has come of this is that I was gifted an extended warranty with unlimited miles through 2024 for being so patient.

I took my truck in for the creaking steering wheel and they called me back and said there was a service bulletin for that issue. They put in a new steering column. They also did some SW updates. Truck is good to go!

Man I wish I had your luck!! I have had two clock springs, steering column, rack and pinion, and body mounts replaced and no luck. Ram said that's how its supposed to operate and refused to change out anymore parts or even work on the truck any longer. It was at the dealer for 30 days.

Ram currently has my truck for said creaking noise. They are replacing the steering rack but the part is back ordered and won't be in until June 2. Hopefully this will resolve the issue but it seems there are many "fixes" for this issue with varying degrees of results. All I know is the creaking is annoying as hell.

I just had the same part replaced on my 21 Ram Limited after 4500 miles.

Thanks for this. I started hearing an annoying creaking noise that sounded like it was coming from behind the wheel when turning the wheel slowly. Sprayed a little lubricant around the top of this coupler and once it worked it's way down a bit, it has been silent since.
