I'm very thankful for this forum. I've never been on one before and I'm very glad I decided to join. I had no idea about the leaking issue before I got my 2019 laramie crew cab used last Oct following a hit and run accident that totaled my 2018 ram 1500 crew cab the month before.

I looked after finding this out and of course I have 2 cracks one on either side of the sliding window and yes it's leaking on both cracks. After reading the posts on here I was dreading taking in my truck and being rejected for the claim as I'm at 27,900 miles and not wanting to spend $1000 on a new window that might leak again anyways. The service manager told me it wasn't up to him that it was up to fca weather or not to warranty. And said it wasn't likely to be approved past the 12k mile glass warranty. But was hopeful for my sake

But I got the call today (3 days later) and it was approved for replacement. And it will likely take at least a month to get. So hopefully that means I get the updated design that won't crack again.

I was unaware of there being only 12 months/12,000 mile coverage of the glass. 😒

F. When It Ends
The Basic Limited Warranty lasts for 36 months from the date it begins or for 36,000 miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first. But the following items are covered only for 12 months or for 12,000 miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first:
• Brakes (rotors, pads, linings, and drums)
• Bulbs
• Clutch Discs or Modular Clutch Assembly (if equipped)
• Wheel Alignment and Wheel Balancing
• Windshield and Rear Window
• Wiper Blades

Does that include the window frame or the glass itself? I think that's how people are getting it warrantied beyond 1 year, is that the actual rear glass frame is cracking as opposed to the glass itself, but the word "rear window" could include the frame.

Either way, it's a known issue that is growing regarding a bad designed rear window, hopefully that will make it easier to get approval beyond 1 year.

Yeah I imagine it's because it's a pretty major issue and becoming more well known and they don't want a lawsuit. And they've acknowledged the issue at least internally. And according to other posts are purging old glass and only sending out an updated model. In guessing what's on 2020 and 2021 since only 2019 is effected as far as I know.

But it could also be that it's not the actual glass. But then again the warranty says "Rear Window" not rear glass so whether that includes the frame or not only they know. But like I said I was at 27,900 miles and they are replacing it under warranty

That's not the case, there are 2020 models who also have cracks and leaks, not sure if they actually have a true fix yet, waiting to see if any 2021 owners report it.

There are two suppliers who make these rear windows for RAM and GM, both have leaks due to cracks. We are also on the Silverado forums, and the leak thread is even bigger there than on this forum. From what I can tell, there are current year trucks with leaks there as well.

I personally may not bother with a rear window replacement, the removal and installation appears to be hit or miss regarding not damaging the truck in the process. Someone here fixed there crack/leak by simply applying sealant over the crack. I rather do that and put a flat black decal to cover up the crack on the inside than risk my local dealer trying to fix it with another window that may or may not crack again.

If I get the cracks, I'll get the dealer to note it and only do it when and if they confirm an updated window frame.

Good to know. It seemed like it was just the 2019s. Hopefully they solve it either way.

Hopefully, it's really on the supplier level, I forget the two companies that produce the windows, but it's a lot of windows on various RAMs and Silverados/Sierras.

Ford uses a completely different supplier and design, looks like they don't have any widespread issues.

Hey guys, just curious if anyone has tried 3M windo-weld in the little channel / groove between the top of the rear glass and the cab? I picked some up this evening. I realize most would prefer a replaced window altogether, but for any of you who don't mind a DIY fix, I'll be interested to know your thoughts.

I had a professional glass guy seal mine as a temporary band aide fix twice. It failed each time.

wow, 72 pages on this. I didn't read all 72 pages, but I am guessing this is a pretty common issue with the 2019 trucks? Is it specific to any trim, production period, or factory?

It's common across 2019 & 2020 model years, jury is out on 2021s until we start hearing reports from owners.

Over on Silverado forums, there are 2021 trucks reporting issues, and both RAM & GM use the same window suppliers.

Here is a similar thread on the Silverado forums, it's 201 pages long. You can see the similarities in reports - https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/216705-rear-window-leak/page/200/#comments

Luckily neither my RAM and Wife's Silverado have leaks, but we are keeping an eye.

I can confirm that there is an updated model and they installed it into my truck. Now 11 months later, (Mar. 20 2020 replacement installed part #68426398AC) both sides are cracked again on the new model part. On a side note, neither of my windows have ever leaked from the cracks.

That sucks man, sorry to hear that. Hopefully they will make it right for you with an actual non-cracking window. GM and RAM have got big issues if all their trucks are going to get these cracks.

Add another one to the list. 2019 Laramie started leaking on 2/14/21. First noticed crack on the driver's side frame where it was leaking, then found a smaller crack on the passenger side. Truck has been at the dealership since 2/16/21, still waiting to hear if FCA is going to approve the warranty repairs. I took some pictures from this thread that I'll be showing them if they offer anything less than full replacement.

This will be my last Ram. I've already had it at the dealership 6 times total for them to replace the squeaking breaks and a bad fuel injector. I know there will always be some defects, but I just can't trust the truck past the B2B warranty. Plan to trade it in within the next year...hopefully sooner.

Ac is the old part. AD is the new one apparently

Why do you leave it at dealer? When I had mine done twice it was a 2 minute appt for them to take photos and then I brought the truck back when the window came in. Window done and returned to me on same day.

Well it was raining at the time and I wanted it repaired. I couldn't get off work for an appointment, so I had to drop it off before work the day before the appointment. I'm going to get it tonight while they discuss with FCA whether it will be covered.

Have you or has anyone got the AD replacement and is there a significant difference? I am thinking of bringing it up when I am at the dealer next.

I think we are all waiting for the first AD part and the photos I think one person has it and I don’t think it looked different The Chinese probably just stamped a new part number on the same old part. Yes, the window is banged out by a Chinese company if that says anything.
