Just got back from a trip to the Smokey Mountains ~700 mile each way trip towing my new 2020 Coachman 29' Travel Trailer. It was my 3rd trip towing it with my 2020 Bighorn 1500 5.7 etorque 3.21 (longest trip by far though).

Trailer is ~6400 empty ~7600 loaded (probably wasnt anywhere near fully loaded). Tongue weight is ~740 . Vin on truck is rated for ~8300, payload ~1550. Nothing of note in the truck except for passengers and dogs. Biggest thing I've ever towed.

7.9 miles to to the gallon on the way there (mostly uphill), 8.5 on the way back (mostly downhill)

I was very impressed with the truck's performance. No struggles on any of the hills, great response, and a very smooth ride (outside of 1 really bumpy area).

Even though it did a great job, this is pretty much maxing out my truck. Already starting some research on a bigger truck and trailer. I'll probably wait a year before that though.

Nice setup. We have a 2020 Coachmen Spirit 2963BH that is around 6400 dry with a GVWR of 7600.

Like you we are pretty much at max based upon payload with 3.21 gears. However the truck doesn’t lack any power even pulling the mountains here in WV.

You should have got a 2500 with 8 foot bed. Then you would not need the trailer.

Well I do have the Pentastar.
It's a Mercury Water Mouse that is 10' long and weighs maybe 600 pounds on the trailer. I don't even notice it back there. I'm very thankful for the backup camera, especially when the boat is off the trailer. They were originally developed for and used at Disney resorts.

This is the heaviest we have towed, bought it in missouri and brought it back home to vegas. 1350 miles. 2021 wildwood wdt24rlxl. shipping weight 5025 had a couple hundred pounds in it, e2 WDH. Truck did great, but loved the gas. 2020 Ram 1500, 3.92, 5.7 etorque, Pulling over the mountains, 5.5 mpg, but had a 35 to 45 mph head wind gust of 60 , and on flats around 10 to 11 mpgs.

Glad to see another person towing something the same size as me! I love my Ram and my Coachman!

Took her out 1 more time before i winterized and I get more and more impressed with her performance each trip.

Can't wait for spring to get here so i can get on the road again. Planning a trip to Maine this summer.

Might wait another year before getting serious about upgrading the truck and camper.. i do have my eye on few fifth wheels though.

Did you travel trailer come with the slide over the awning or did you add it? We had to leave while it was raining once and it got a little wet inside after putting my slide in.

So far we are really enjoying our Coachmen as well. Previously we had a Roo 233s that we loved as well.

Only reasons we got rid of it was that we took some trips early and late in the year and wanted something more enclosed. Also takes less maintenance as far as cleaning the tent ends etc.

But to answer your question....no the camper did not come with the slide topper on it. We had them add with the purchase. Had one on the old camper as well. Makes a world of difference.

Our new enclosed motorcycle / car hauler I picked up late last fall. I'll get better pics once the weather gets better as it's in the back of our pole barn right now behind the other trailer.

Pretty sure we were maxed out. The trailer was probably pushing 8000 all loaded up. It's a 29.5 foot plus hitch. This was a pretty good tug with a 20 mph head/side wind on a 98 degree day. It was a handful with a 4 point distribution hitch even. I'm wondering if timbren stops would help this/stop the squat a bit.

Trailer was 8480 last time I took it over the scales.
I added bags and used a Blue OX WD Sway setup with 14k bars last year which was disappointing when it got windy. I purchased a Hensley Arrow for the upcoming season.
