Keep in mind that it isn't just the powertrain you are protecting yourself against. It is all of fancy electronics and computer modules in vehicles now a days. I am not PRO or AGAINST warranties...everyone needs to make up their own mind based on situation. If you're planning to keep the truck for 5+ years, a $200 deductible warranty may be a great choice as one module or piece of electronics can be more than the cost of the warranty. Just sayin'
Very true, he was asking about the motor, but very good point about everything else. Things that are cover in just the 3/36000 mile warranty👍🏻

I have the 2020 Laramie 4x4 Crew Ecodiesel with 11500 miles. I just bought the Max Care 6/100,000 warranty from Ziegler's for $1250. Seemed fair to me for peace of mind.

Looks like the Chrysler Factory Direct (Ziegler auto group) does not offer the money back guarantee that Mopar offers. However, it is $1,500 cheaper. The Mopar does have this provision in the contract:

MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE: We will reimburse you 100% of the purchase price of this Plan (up to MSRP, Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price,) if: (1) the Plan expires by time or mileage and no mechanical component repair or diagnostic claims have been paid. (2) The Refund Request Form, enclosed, must be submitted within 90 days of plan term expiration date. See Money-Back Refund Request page for complete program details. (3) You must be in possession of the Plan and Vehicle at the time of requesting refund, therefore, the Plan cannot be cancelled or transferred to apply for this refund. (4) Your refund will not be honored if your vehicle is repossessed or scrapped.

The Ziegler quote service contract does not have this paragraph.

All MOPAR warranties come from the same place...MOPAR. There is ONLY ONE CONTRACT.
I agree, but if you buy it directly from Mopar (letter sent in the mail after you purchase the truck) then you get the money back guarantee. I posted the sample contracts above and the Zielger one does not have the money back paragraph.

Maybe there is a difference in this clause...but at what cost...that's the big question

My 2 cents guys from someone that's been doing this a LONG time...

1. NEVER buy a third-party warranty. Stick with an OEM Warranty and get the MOPAR MAX CARE plan
2. Don't buy a MOPAR warranty from your local dealer UNLESS he'll match the pricing from Jason or Ziegler
3. Warranties are refundable in a prorated manner. Just because you never make a claim doesn't mean you get all of your money back

A warranty is like an insurance policy. Whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

@Uga40 ...these engines are NOT ticking time bombs...stop watching BS videos from folks that have no idea what they are talking about. There are millions of these HEMI's on the road with ton's of mileage on them. It is a fantastic motor. However, like anything mechanical, they can have issues. No different than any other manufacturer's motors...just ask a FORD owner ;)
SG,

While I haven't had a 3rd party warranty before, all I have ever heard backs up your point. While I haven't decided yet whether I will get the warranty, I did find Ziegler, and I did ask my selling dealer to look into beating their price. I am not a professional mechanic, but I'm an engineer with a sufficient collection of tools and no qualms about doing repairs myself. However, the electronics have been reported to be problematic in every comment section I've come across. I'm worried about my owner experience that's about to kick off. And, I've been driving manual transmissions for 32 years. Now that I'll have an automatic, I'm worried about that as well.

So, if Mopar Max Care is hassle free, then there's a good chance I'm gonna take it seriously. Although, it only goes out to 8 years. Maybe I'll have an electric truck by then, with 800 horsepower and a tiny "fuel" bill.

Zeigler or Clay Robbins are the go-to places for Mopar extended warranties, you won’t find prices any lower than those two. With Zeigler, make sure you use the promo code PAYINFULL for $365 off the purchase price.

Regarding the money back extended warranties, it seems like a good deal but remember that they are always counting on the buyer paying for repairs out of their own pockets so that they can get the full reimbursement at the end of the warranty term. It’s a slick marketing gimmick and they usually come out ahead. They are also priced much higher than the regular extended warranties. Me personally, if I had chosen to buy an extended warranty, I’d probably have sprung for just the regular Max Care with no reimbursement and highest deductible ($200), it’s the cheapest one and probably the most bang for your buck. When I priced one out just prior to hitting 12,000 miles, I believe the cost for an 8/85,000 with $200 deductible at Zeigler was right around $1100 total. (In the end I chose not go through with an extended warranty.) Good luck with your decision!

This is a valid point, there is a $500 price difference on the money back guarantee

I live in Illinois (unfortunately), when I traded my Ridgeline in for my Bighorn the finance guy told me it was a state law that any extended warranty must be refunded at a prorated rate. Not sure if this is true, but I got $2,600 back from the Honda warranty, not sure if it was Honda or 3rd party. It took 3 months to get the refund, but it more than paid for my 8/125k maxcare through Ziegler.

It could be. Each state has its own rules for vehicle warranties.

I know that people in Florida are not a fan of the fact that there are no discounts on extended warranties. You have to pay "full price" (MSRP) for any extended warranty down there.

As others have suggested, Ziegler and other popular warranty sellers DO offer the money back guarantee option. However, the upfront/initial purchase price is more. You pay more for the plan for the right to get a full refund. My price quote for the 8yr/125k was around $2350. The exact same plan with the full refund feature was somewhere around $3k (I don't recall exactly).

As mentioned, I bought the MaxCare from Ziegler. It does contain this short paragraph in the contract:

CANCELLATION AND TRANSFER POLICIES: During the term of the Plan, you have the option to: • CANCEL the remaining Plan coverage and receive a full or pro-rata refund or; • AUTHORIZE TRANSFER of the remaining Plan coverage to the 1st subsequent owner.

So, it apears that even though this isn't the full money back guarantee contract, you can still recover some costs if you cancel early. Pretty fair deal IMO.

Yep...that is standard procedure ;)
