Water Stained Headliner Near Rear Corner

Noticed a spot of water stain on the headliner near the passenger side rear corner:
34003
34002
34005

Not sure when it happened at first. It has been raining for months in California... However, I wash the truck twice a month.

Some threads point to leaking Center High Mounted Stop Light. I open the CHMSL cover and there is no water spot I can tell either, and it does not explain why the stain is on the corner.

Has no problem for 8 months and 13k miles...

Yes, seems like worth the effort to try and fix this yourself if possible by using some silicone caulk,
Even though that stain doesn't look pretty I would NOT want the typical dealership removing my headliner
since most of these places break more things in the process...if possible do NOT have the liner totally removed, if they can lower it slightly to repair the leak I'd possibly OK that process.

I've found mine to be wet in the same spot and also by the speaker on the drivers side when we get a heavy rain. My headliner is black so I can't make out any water lines but I have been checking it after rain and when it rains hard enough it is wet. It does not get wet when washing it it has to sit in a rain for several hours to get wet. I've heard it could be the third brake light, the antenna, roof seams, body seam around the window or a bad window seal itself. With as many trucks as I've heard of the leaking you would think they would find a common issue.

What sucks is that you have to have the headliner removed or lowered to get at the problem. I cringe when I think of the typical "tech" doing that work. One thing that does help is if you as the customer can help pinpoint the source of the leak before the dealer starts tearing things apart..

Yes, it is really bizarre that Chrysler hasn't found the problems and solved them for the production line.
I'm really surprised!

Looks like I am [forced] to join your little club:mad::(
The other day, I noticed that there are water stains in my headliner in the rear of the cab on both corners. I do not know if there is water elsewhere in the cab or any other damage beside the headliner. I do not know if the source of the leak is the panoramic roof gaskets or drains, rear window, cargo light or shark fin. Maybe @RamCares can assist us? My truck is currently at the dealers now.

Hi RAMRhode,

I regret to hear that you are also experiencing this concern with your truck. As it has been a couple days, are you able to share your dealer's findings? Any additional info you can provide so we may determine how to best assist at this point is greatly appreciated!

FCA ought to spend a few bucks on problems like these. They've had years of people reporting the same, old issues and yet...they persist.

i have been watching this issue since i purchased my RAM used in September. i thought i had dodged a bullet until today. the same exact spot is leaking. i just looked in the 3rd bake light and antennae area and its completely dry. when you remove the 3rd brake light you are looking directly at the other side of the headliner. if it were leaking here, the headliner would be wet in this area.
if you stand in the bed and look towards the front of the truck. on the right and left edges of the roof is a 1" plastic cover that runs the entire length of the roof line. what are these? and how are they removed? are they covering a seam? i ask because they seem loose and this is exactly where mine is leaking.
thanks!

has anyone contimplated doing a solid back window instead of the slider. i have no faith that a new window will not crack and do the same thing over time.

Thank you for the heads up, @rick_od. If you wouldn't mind, please give us a couple business days heads up before your appointment so we can get you connected with a specialist prior to your visit.

I did not have the time to deal with the issue until today's dealer visit.

I also discovered that there is a crack on the rear window frame.

They asked me to schedule another appointment since they need to remove the headliner and rear window to diagnose and tomorrow will be New Year Day.

@RamCares, is it better to get a specialist for my next visit.

Dealer said it was CMSL unit and they are replacing it. Hmm....we’ll see if this was the cause.
