Just bought a 2019 Ram 1500, new body. I think the rheostat for the dash needs replacement, the dash lighting is very dim unless you spin the wheel all the way past the indention to the very top and then it's too bright. Anyone else have this issue? it's actually hard to see the gauges at a time like dusk.

I noticed that too, it seems to still be a little on the light side at the highest setting (prior to going past the click).

Then it's on full daylight setting, which is too bright.

I have to say that I have the same issue. When I bought the truck and took it back to have the bed liner sprayed in, I asked the salesman about why when I have the dash light dimmer all the way on high right before it clicks for daylight setting(high) Why it isn’t very bright and he said that is the way it is. I have now had the truck for about a month and half and kinda got used to it but would be nicer if it got a little brighter. Do you know if this is normal setting for the new 2019 1500 @RamCares

Same here. I am used to it now. The full power setting is stupid bright.

It gets really dim if your headlights come on when it isn't really dark out. I notice this especially when the wipers are on during the day. I have the setting turned on for lights on with wipers, so it is expected I guess.

I really like the truck and this is my only complaint, wish they would correct it.

Put me in the same boat, except I like the full brightness level. When I actually drive in the dark, which is rare, I'll scroll the dimmer wheel just past the indentation to dim the dash lights.

This too, is one of very few complaints I have with my truck. I didn't even think about it during the test drive - my previous F-150s had the headlight and interior lights separated as far as dimming went.

Just the way it is, oddly. Most rheostats / potentiometers adjust from 1-100%. Ram appears to be 1-50% range, and then 100%. There are few things my wife notices in a vehicle, but she questioned this on a recent drive from San Antonio to Houston. I'll have to show her this thread to confirm my answer!

This!!

Probably my biggest pet peeve. I would disagree that it is only 1-35% + 100%
IMHO, dumb not to just have 1-100.

I just noticed mine doing the same, allnof the sudden. Appears that, the dial no longer works. It’s either ON or OFF. No in between. But again, my truck is riddled with problems so, I am taking it back to the shop next week. Lol

Yes I noticed this as well. I was driving yesterday at dusk and thought something was wrong with the battery because the lights went so dim when the auto headlights activated.

It definitely needs more adjustment for brightness

I think the dial is for adjustment of dash lighting when the truck thinks it night, and headlights are on, or fully on which means do not adjust display lighting at night, keep fully on.
I think the issue is that the trucks thinks it night time, headlights ON, when its still too bright out. I would like to figure out how to adjust this. I noticed parking in the garage, the dash would be dim, then 1 min of driving outside, it would readjust to full brightness without me adjusting anything.

I understand why the display / screen dims when the headlights come on ... It should, unless you purposefully override it. It's that it dims so much that surprises me. Mine is either bright as hell at night, or so dim it's hard to see. If only that little wheel would let me play with the 45-99% range. Yes, minor annoyance in the bigger picture - But since someone mentioned it ;-)

I will pile on here in hope that FCA will take notice, the lack of any real brightness adjustments and the need to take the keyfob out to lock and unlock are the only two things that irk me, everything else is great.

Please put a fix in a future SW update for the dash lighting

Yeah. It’s especially awesome when, during broad daylight you come out of a tunnel like what we have here on I90 in Seattle, and can’t see your cluster because your being blinded by the sun, with a cluster that is unreadable lol! But to be fair, once the running lights go off, the dash becomes visible. Usually takes 10-15secs and back to normal.

This annoys me too. Is there anything wrong with turning the knob to full brightness, past the click, and leaving it there? Will the dash remain on all the time? Even after the truck is shut off? I like the full brightness the best but don’t know if the dash lights will shut off when the truck shuts off. I don’t know why I haven’t tried it myself. Years ago if you turned the dash lights to full brightness the dome lights would come on too and they would stay on until you backed off the adjustment past the click or your battery ran down

It will definitely shut off when you shut the truck off. I use full brightness during the day, but it's too bright like that at night ... At least for me. I guess if your passenger likes to read printed books or magazines while you drive, full brightness at night might be perfect. It's pretty bright when it's dark outside.

My 2017 was the same way. Why this hasn't been fixed by now is baffling
