upgrade time:

Changed the two circuit breakers for the two DC-DC charger for the battery/ power station. The left one is Blue Sea 285 Series Medium Duty breaker ($66), and the right one is Bussman 187 Series Heavy Duty Breaker ($82). Reason for upgrade is the smaller stud on the 285 series is showing signs of fatigue for the cab side loop as the breaker is vertically mounted. Upgraded both units.

Close up of the failing breaker - this one has been installed on the truck since 2022 when I put in the Victron to charge my Ecoflow Delta 2 and run my HAM radio. Not bad, but with high demand and high stress activities that require the best parts, these are just consumables.

Last weekend when I went to shoot meteor shower, the LiFEPO4 in the camper was only charged to 50%. I suspected the 50A Renogy DC-DC w/ MPPT wasn't doing its job. Did some testing earlier this week, found out if I left the charger in LiFEPO4 profile it wouldn't charge correctly from solar but if I switch to custom profile then all is good.
That is unacceptable.
So, Redarc it is. Since I got all the wirings already, the swap is pretty straight forward - put both breakers (engine bay and charger to LiFEPO4) to off position, and disconnect the unit. Remove the Renogy, attach Redarc to the bed rail plate I made, and reconnect everything.

The after.
Excuse me for the dusty bed. I haven't had a chance to wash the truck yet since last weekend. Monitored the charging today and it charged 30% in 5 hours under the sun.
I could've saved some money and used the 50A Redarc Classic 1250D ($690), but I chose the more advanced (also more expensive, $735) Alpha50 for smaller footprint, build-in Bluetooth monitoring, adjustable input current limits and starter battery recovery. The Alpha50 also features smarter charging logic and solar priority over engine charging, but those two features are not as important.

Compare to the Renogy unit, the Redarc is both smaller in size and much lighter in weight.
To be honest, I am not sure if there's something wrong with the Renogy, and I don't really want to deal with Renogy's RMA given one of my friend (who used to help Renogy push products to various offroad/ overlanding groups) horrible RMA experience.
I probably have stated this last year when I put the Renogy in before my Alaska trip, but at the time my top choice was Redarc over Renogy. But, due to supply chain issues, Redarc wasn't able to get me the Classic 1250D on time, while Renogy had the charger in stock ready to ship.
Am I bummed about Renogy (allegedly) failing? Not really, I always knew this day would happen and at least it happened while I was still close to home instead of in Alaska. But at the very least, I have one less made in China product on the truck (Renogy is based in US but made in China), and I am one step closer to my goal of buying NOT made in China things when there are options available.
*For those who don't know: Redarc is made in Australia, and the Bussman is made in Mexico.
