I sure hope this isn't an issue with the recall repair. I haven't had any issues with mine, but scheduled my recall appointment for next Friday. I would be very disappointed if the repair caused problems that didn't exist previously! :(
Yeah, agreed and I know 100% the truck was not doing this prior to the update. I called the dealer and they said this is the first they are hearing this but now have to take it in again. I'll let you know once I take it back on Monday. I hate recalls.

Did a quick calculation.
12,000 miles per year
15mpg in a 5.7L vs 30mpg in the ecoDiesel
$4.25 for gas, $4.75 for diesel
Diesel would save you $1,500 a year, if prices held steady.
The engine's MSRP is $4,995.
3.3 years to recover the additional cost.

Of course if you already had the diesel, you paid less when negotiation was easier. However, fuel costs were cheaper too. And of course fuel prices vary by where you're buying.

I think it's pretty clear though, you can recover the cost of that engine option in 3-5 years easily. And you can be smug about having a smaller carbon footprint, at least until 2024 when the electric Ram debuts.
Keep in mind the 5.7 has MSRP of $2,795 as well.

Very good point! So...the comparative payback is quicker.

As far as whether or not 15 mpg is a good estimate for the 5.7L... it's about what I'm getting. And DON'T rely on the value in the instrument panel. That number is VERY optimistic. You have to calculate gallons pumped in and miles driven. You'll find that the computer is about 10% or more too optimistic.

If you run the 3.21 differential, you'll do better I hear.

Don't forget the added maintenance cost for the deisel in oil and fuel filter changes, as well as DEF refills.

Not to start the gas prices thing again, but I'm hoping gas prices don't stay steady at $4 😅

What's the financial value of being stuck driving an EcoDiesel instead of a Hemi? Not sure most of us could make up that difference in our lifetimes.

Stripped bad paint on my RB40 GoRhino boards and coated it in bedliner. Swapped polished factory lugnuts that were starting to swell with black lugnuts. Painted front tow hooks and rear tow shackle red. Installed new Rigid ditch lights and KC Cyclone V2 lights for undercarriage clearance and engine.

15mpg is a pretty low average for the hemi.

And diesel is now almost $6 a gallon where e15 is $4ish.

Plus take into account the higher overall maintenance costs of the diesel, oil changes filters, def and what not.

It’s almost a wash

The 800+ mile range is a huge benefit to me. The fuel cost savings is just an added benefit.

They are all over Georgia too. But the stations try, uncessfully, to scrape them off but you still know what was there.

Drove to the gym so finally see the coating in sunlight. To my surprise I didn’t screw it up or miss any spots.

replaced front grill chrome emblems with black painted ones and the hood too. debadged emblems from doors, 4x4 and Laramie from tailgate. last thing is replacing the tailgate ram head with black painted on. Also got some 305/45/22 Michelin tires, just waiting to get wheels powdercoated and then they go on.

On it way back for 2nd miss fire. Starting to really love my $50000 dollar driveway queen. This is my 4th check engine light in 2 years. 2nd for misfire. Last misfire took 3 visits to the dealer to get it fixed. The first misfire was in OCTOBER. 33000 MILES 2020
