Update: DO NOT BUY RAM WITH RAMBOX - Warping and Alignment Issue with 2019 Rams

This thread has been invaluable to me. The Rambox was my most wanted feature. All of this information helped temper my expectations but it also helped to hear how many people with the issue would still choose the option. That spoke volumes. Off the lot mine aligns perfectly but I will keep an eye and see what happens. The feature was just too valuable to me to skip...even if there is a design flaw.

I agree! I use these RamBoxes everyday and can't imagine not having them. I had them on my 2011 and now on my 2020. So usable since the space is perfectly at your fingertips. Lockable, lighted and totally convertible. For me they are tool boxes most of the time and giant coolers when we camp. Everything in the Box is easy to see with no bending or climbing to reach. One of the best features of the Ram. So... with or without the cosmetic defect(s), I still love them, although certainly I would like them to be defect free.

Anyone store their golf clubs in the Rambox? Don't have a truck yet, but I definitely want this feature and am curious if they fit ok in the 5'7" boxes.

I'd love to see some company come out with foam inserts designed for the RamBox to turn them into real coolers.

I haven't tried putting my golf bag in this truck yet, but they fit in the 4th gen ramboxes. I have no reason to believe they won't fit in these too, although I can't say for sure they will fit until I try it. I'd try it now if I had my clubs, but they're out of state.

Talked with service manager at dealership and showed him the Rambox a while back. He ordered the shell (is what I call it--- The top piece and frame). He re-used the painted section.
First picture is what it looked like before.

He assisted mechanic in installing the frame and took my existing painted section and put back on it. I had told him I wanted to wait until they came out with a fix for it because we both agreed that it would warp again. He wanted to try it. Definitely a big improvement and i didn't have to worry about them not getting paint right or peeling.
I wrapped electrical tape (9-10 rounds - thick) around hook assembley in the box where the latch attaches and it pulled it down level, but had to play with it to get it to open. In other words if I could lower the hook assembly in the box it would be level, but i took the tape back off and this is where it currently sets.

The fact that it only latches in the center is the problem. The more you make it pull down, the faster the lids will warp. The lids aren't strong enough structurally to hold their shape.

Finally took mine in yesterday for a laundry list of issues, ram boxes included.

Told them to look at both boxes. Was instructed they may have to order all new boxes and I was sure to indicate I don't want anything done that would result in paint work. They are going to try to "tweak" a few things just to get things lined up better. I'm sure the warped tops will still remain. We'll see.

My bigger issues are 1) Rear seat vent fan going out 2) Transmission shift shock 3) UConnect backup camera staying on after switching to drive and remaining on indefinitely until I turn the vehicle off and restart everything 4) Front End noise recall. Haven't experienced any noise, but doing the recall any way I guess.

I actually left off a few other issues: Squeaks, rattles, wind noises. Figure I'd like to maybe get it back this year and will address the other issues farther down the road. Gotta pick your battles I guess.

Out of curiosity...has anyone tried 303 protectant on the Rambox? I am not acting like its a cure-all but I have seen amazing things in how it deflected UV in my kayaks over the years. Wondering if it might provide a bit of shielding against sun-warping?

My 2020 built in october has warped lids. It's not the sun or heat causing the issue. It's a design flaw. The latch is in the center of a plastic lid. It pulls the middle down and makes a banana out of the lid. It needs some structural ribbing or similar added to make it more rigid.

I've been putting 303 on my tonneau cover and RamBox lids. But, I don't think it will have any effect on warping. Mine do look a little bit warped. Not enough for me to bother trying to get them fixed, at this point.

303 only protects against UV damage, not thermal. UV damage will first show up as chalky, flaking, and cracking of plastic and eventually warping as the plastic weakens. As others have said, it is the thermal/design issue of the thinner (thus lighter and more fuel efficient) lid design that's causing this.

303 is great at what it does but it can't solve everything.

Totally makes sense...was just a random thought as I wondered if deflecting the UV would also lower the thermal temp. I still love the things and they are one of those options I wonder how I survived without all these years. Will be interesting to watch how the warping develops as they are definitely aligned perfectly for now.

WOW
I’ve had a 2009 1st year Crewcab Rambox 1500 Hemi
Put 442,150 on this truck using for work

2015 Ecodiesel Longhorn put 48,000 no problems with Ramboxes

2019 - 2500 Megacab Rambox 4wd , Cummins, 1800 miles nothing yet

2020 Lonestar 1500 Crewcab Rambox
1800 miles( replacing 2009)
No problem yet

2020 Rebel - manufacture date 11/1/19 Picked up Jan. 1 from TX.

Ram boxes have not started misshaping as pictures and descriptions have shown in here so far. Will keep an eye on it and update when I start seeing it.

I believe it IS the sun/heat causing the issue since now that it's winter here and consistently below 0, they are aligned perfect all around. I wish they would stay this way!

Mine have been warped since I picked it up. It was built in October. I'm in upstate NY. Temps don't change the amount of the warpage. It's a simple, engineering issue....a design flaw. Cutting corners on materials and design caused this. They could fix it easily if they cared to.

What many of you have said on this does seem make sense. Still odd mine would be manufactured 1 month after yours and showing no signs of bowing while yours has. Unless it really starts to show itself on mine in the next month there is something else at play as well.

I will admit I have not read all of the replies to this post (TLDR) but when I saw a RamBox in a parking lot with rust coming down from the keyhole, I thought, I will never opt for that feature. It looked horrible...rust ran all the way down to the wheel well.

You sure it wasn't blood? A quartered deer would fit in there ;)
