Just took delivery of my new 2022 10th Anniversary Edition Limited with Ramboxes and MFT. Noticed today that I cannot lock the tailgate.

It does not lock when locking the doors with the door handle button. The Ramboxes lock fine.

The tailgate will also not lock when using the key fob to lock all the doors, again the Ramboxes lock fine.

Has anyone else had this problem? Searched the owners manual, but the only reference to locking tailgate is "tailgate can be locked using the key fob" on page 86. Doesn't specifically reference if the tailgate can be locked or unlocked using door handle button.

Any help, greatly appreciated. At this time I think I'll have to call dealer. Maybe a chip problem or bad wire connection?

To expand on what bill-e just said, if the fob is in your pocket and you grab the tailgate handle it will open, locked or not. Lock the truck, remove the fob from the vicinity, and go back without the fob and try the handle again. If it still opens, then yes you have a problem. But I'll bet it works fine. 😁 Let us know.

LOL this is great. It gave me a WTF moment until I realized too.

Same thing happened to me, turns out my truck was smarter than me. Lol, we all did it and we eventually came to the same realization, sometimes on this forum :)

Had the same problem read yalls answer so im sitting here in the parking lot laughing my *** off. For getting worried my tailgate wouldnt lock. While holding the fob. Lol

How far away does the fob need to be though? I was backed into a parking spot in front of a hotel room with the fob in the room and I was able to open the tailgate. I turned the truck around in the spot and tailgate stayed locked. 30 feet maybe.

About 30 feet for me, but I wasn't testing the limits, that's just how far I put the key for it not unlock the tail gate, it could be shorter.

Just picked up my 2022 Rebel and just made an appointment with this issue of the tailgate not locking. Lol. So glad I saw this post …. Saved me some embarrassment. 😳

Also about the keyfob ... I got out, put my jacket with the keyfob in it in the back seat. And I managed to lock my doors with the little button on the door handle. Good thing I had the extra keyfob with me.

That's good to know, I was never able to lock my door with the key inside the truck, but it wasn't inside a jacket in the back seat.

Were you able to try and unlock it with the inside of the door handle? I wonder if it could lock itself in that situation, it should be able to unlock itself as well.

Nope. I had to get the other key fob to get it unlocked from the outside since it was winter and all the windows were up.

One time I dropped the key fob between the seat and center console and I didn't notice. I wasn't able to lock the doors then.

I don't know why the key fob isn't detected when it's in the back seat.

Gotcha, thanks for the update, will definitely be more careful in the future. This is why I love the keypad system on Fords, no matter what, you always have a way to get into your vehicle. But they have the patent on it and it's not expiring anytime soon.

I just attempted to lock my truck with the key on the back seat. It won't lock. Does your jacket have Faraday pockets? I believe the RF Hub controls the signal for unlocking/locking the doors and it's on the back wall, so if anything, the key would work better back there. Is it possible that you locked the doors before you closed the door?

:ROFLMAO: I don't know. I locked the doors via the door handle button. I may try it again sometime in the future. :ROFLMAO:

I'm having the same, exact issue. Ramboxes lock fine with key, but tail gate will not lock with either keyfob or lock button on driver's door. Purchased used 2022 RAM 2500 Laramie Limited last month and noticed this problem. Did you find out how to correct this problem?
