Trailer 360 Cameras

Good morning mark92a, your timing is impeccable. I've been communicating with Jimmy 07 in the background about this very thing, specifically the DVRM w/Trailer Mode, as the Owner's Manual as well as at least one YouTube call it.

As with you, I have the trailer camera connection point just left of centre on my back bumper, so the 12-pin is the bottom plug and the top is meant to take a Fakra-type connector. At Jimmy's suggestion(I don't know why I didn't think of this) I got under the truck to check for an actual wiring harness. The 12-pin has a harness connected to it, however there isn't a harness to the back side of the plug. It's all a bit confusing, but it is a typical Mother MOPAR scenario-identify/offer something but then don't follow through. Have you checked to see if there's a harness attached to the back side of the Fakra connector?

When you say that you push a button on the DVRM, is it on the right side or the left side of the actual lever that turns the CHMSL camera on? Also, have you pulled the DRVM cover off to see if there is only a single Fakra connector, or two? Can you please take a photo of the DVRM from a bit farther back than the one you've posted, this so that the whole mirror is shown.

Answers to these two questions may give us some idea of what's going on.

I'm not too sure why all the above is lined out. I haven't seen this before.

Here are pics of what I have. The 12/1 connector is connected to the harness. That harness has other "stuff" going to it, Bed lights, park sensors, etc and all joins up with other harnesses (big body harness perhaps, and some smaller ones.) everything I see is in the pics, including part #'s on harnesses. The Fakra is connected to the 12/1 and also "goes into" the harnesses. I would say 100% that the 12/1 is connected up to harnesses and I dont see any "dead end" harness with dummy caps. (Unlike what the one in my rear seat that is just "hanging out" on the back wall, which is another mystery in another thread)

Interestingly, the white zip tie was there from the factory, (pic B9/B10) its the only "normal ziptie" on the whole truck that I have seen. It seems to bring together 2 smaller harness parts. Kinda strange I thought.

The pic with the white tag with the numbers is the harness that plugs into the (body?) harness and the 12/1 connector

The DRVM... I havent opened it yet, if someone can tell me to to gently remove the plastic cover, it I can explore whats in there.

The center "flip switch" on the DRVM flips it from normal mirror to digital display (of the CHMSL camera) The buttons to the right adjust the settings, up down/left right. There are no buttons to the left of the flip switch, but there is a black plastic "bump" that doesnt appear to do anything but cover whatever is on the inside that part of the DRVM.

What other info/pics can help? I'm all about figuring this out.
I do have a 10 amp fuse in the engine bay fuse box , position F62 which has voltage, and is for the "trailer camera, if equipped" as per the manual.

The DRVM... I havent opened it yet, if someone can tell me to to gently remove the plastic cover, it I can explore whats in there. (Have a look at this YouTube video for installing a FitCamX. It shows quite clearly what to do, but be warned, it is a bit nerve wracking because it means pulling and popping plastic, and the fear of breaking tabs off). By the way, if you're going to go with a dash cam, the FitCamX is a great product. I have had one since they first came out and they work very well. They're still about 2-3 months out until they have one for the '25s.

So, your mirror is the same as mine; the 'flip' switch and the adjustment buttons to the right, but this is where it gets confusing, see this YouTube video.

I have a wiring harness going to the back side of the 12-pin, but there's just plastic on the back side of the Fakra connector.
I can empathize with your thoughts on your dealer being of no help, but fortunately, I've got a phenomenal dealer to work with, at least on the parts side. My Ram Parts lady has been digging in every corner she can trying to find the cable that would plug into the trailer side of the Fakra connector, but there's no such thing that she can find.

I also asked Jimmy07 to see if he can find a wiring diagram showing the cable that goes to the back side of the Fakra port, and there isn't one.

Thoughts??

Some burning questions and random thoughts.

Some of which, if we had wiring diagrams would hopefully be answered, mainly is the DRVM and all the other cams stand alone or all intertwined systems. Simplisticly speaking, does the DRWM itself have 1 input from the CHMSL camera, and then 1 input from the 12/1 connection for the trailer? That brings us to that connection... Is the it thru the 12 connector, or the 1 (Fakra) connector? Has anyone tried to plug in a Fakra connection camera? then perhaps the DRVM works for "trailer mode"? This would all be a "stand alone" system separate from the surround views/ etc.

or are they all intertwined, and the 12/1 has something to do with 2 aux camera inputs that dont do anything.

Interesting info from the customer ordering guide dated 12/12/23 (see attached, it is posted on other forums, so it's already public info) I know there is a later version I dont have access to, perhaps that has different info.

under Mopar options: (page 21)
Mopar Trlr Camera wiring/no camera (XFQ) Must have AHC (which is the towing tech group consisting of trailer brake control, trailer light check, trailer reverse steer, trailer tire pressure monitoring)
It also says Not Available with A69 which is the Limited Level 1 group. Which is all listed on page 20. The DRVW (GRG) is what you get if you DONT have AAN. The Auto Dim DRVW (GNQ) is what you get if you HAVE AAN. Whats the difference?

Questions.....

The "I have the harness, but you dont"... Why? Was it originally a "we can sell it as an accessory later?" that turned into a "lets just have 1 harness at the factory to stock/install, and instead of having 2 different rear harnesses (one with 12/1 and one without) for all the trim levels?? or????

Is there a sales code that has to be punched in to the computer (XFQ - Mopar trailer camera wiring/no camera) that makes it "seen" in the computer? Is this maybe why there is the 10 amp fuse already istalled? Just add the harness (maybe) or just enter the sales code and it works?

I'm making up the numbers for this: Is there only X number of camera inputs on the computer system, and if we added the trailer camera, it would need X + 1 or X + 2 inputs, which just arent there because they are taken up with surround view and/or the DRVM inputs already?

The 2 aux camera soft buttons. How are they accessed/used/plug in? Are they wireless?

Soooo many questions and so few answers. Some wiring diagrams might help, but it boils down to if/how can I add a trailer camera that shows hopefully on the big screen , or at least on the DRVM.

They are two completely different camera systems. Your mirror is the dual camera mirror (it’s been around since 2022 HD Rams). There are two inputs on the back of the mirror- one that goes to the camera in the the third brake light, and one that goes to the single port on the bumper (the tow mode camera). The camera that plugs into that port is a separate kit, and if your truck is supposed to be equipped with it, it would have been in a big box. Otherwise, you have to buy it separately.

XFQ is the auxiliary trailer camera wiring prep, and the aux 1 and aux 2 soft keys in the radio (this feature has been around since 2019). The cameras for this feature are available as a separate kit, and they plug into the 12-way trailer connector port on the bumper. That’s why you have blue screens when you press aux 1 or aux 2, because you don’t have either of those cameras plugged in.

So if I dont have XFQ on my build sheet, but I do have harnesses going to the 12/1. Now the question becomes: Is the XFQ option is strictly hardware AKA Harnesses, OR it is Harnesses(if not already there) AND a XFQ dealer flash.

Currently I have the blue "camera unavailable" screens and 2 Aux softkeys visible on the 14 inch screen. I dont know what "normal" is supposed to look like for a system that is working as it should cam wise, but no cams are connected VS a system that isnt set up for cams at all.

The options as I see them for me with the harness already factory installed.

1) Buy the box of camera, and get XFQ option flashed on at the dealer (should make the aux cams work (I think) and Im good to go. OK Case
2) Buy the box of camera, and it works WITHOUT needing the XFQ flash and Im good to go. Best Case
3) Wont work at all no matter what. Worse Case

For the dual camera monitor in the DRVM, all I should need is the camera itself and it should display on the DRVM? Right now I have an icon of a truck when I turn on the mirror and the rear view cam comes on, but when I press the mode button to go to the trailer icon, I get a yellow slash in between the two, as there is no camera connected, which makes sense.
I know this camera kit works on the 2024's, 68586112AA, but I cant find anything if it works on the 25's.

What are the part #'s for the 25's?? My dealers parts dept is useless, and told me maybe in 8 months they will have part #'s for the cameras for the 2025's. All I want is one camera to put on the trailer. I dont need the Trailer 360 kit that has the 4 cameras that need the "brain box" mounted on the trailer. The "dual camera kit" that comes with only one camera would be fine. It would be great if Ram had a "enter your model year, enter how many cameras you want, and it spits out part #'s with what it takes to work.

I'm also OK with a off the shelf plug and play non MOPAR camera/wiring also, as I have read the MOPAR cameras for the 2020+ kinda suck.

Thank you for the info. I am coming from a 2012 2500 Megacab, so some of this stuff is all new to me. Before this post was started, when I looked at the camera part #'s none of them say they work with the 25's, so I dont know if thats correct, or they havent added the 25s on the compatibility list yet. I appreciate your time and info on this matter.

Update to my post #17 regarding my trailer surround view installation. So this stubborn old man installed the cameras I purchased on my travel trailer after plugging in the camera system I purchased from eBay. The Uconnect images show all 4 sides around my trailer with ONLY the back view showing in the upper right window. You can see the upper left window shows all 4 sides just like the surround view for the truck.
Issues now are that I can't select the other 3 cameras to appear in the upper right window like the truck surround view window.
The dealer has done all they are technically capable of doing so now it is up to me and Mopar technical support to hopefully get the system to allow me to select all 4 cameras to appear in the larger window. I also don't see the window that allows me to enter in the trailer dimensions and type like the installation instructions show.
The attached pictures show the screen shots for the surround view page as well as the camera system I purchased and also the build & price Towing Technology Group which shows the Surround view system is included. What it doesn't show is which configurations it is not available with.

Hopefully my next update will be to tell everybody how to get the system to be fully functional.

Your truck is not configured for the trailer surround view camera system. It is configured for 2 aux trailer cameras, and that is why the camera view software keys don’t work.

When the truck is configured for trailer surround view camera system, instead of an “aux 1” soft key in the main cameras menu, you’ll have a trailer surround view software key in the trailer cameras menu.
