tonneau covers that work with the multifunction tailgate?

Hi all I used my Lund cover from my 17 ram. I just cut slots in the side rails to fit with OE support brackets and mines works fine without buying new cover or different brackets. It doesn’t look as nice as I wanted but it’s not something that will been seen!

Thanks! I wanted to see what I could do to save money! I saw this thread and though I would have to order brackets, but with some thinking I came up with the idea and decide to post if it was successful so hear I am!

You just took this discussion to the next phase.....good job.

This exactly what I wanted to do. I saw no issue why it wouldn’t work. Thanks for the photos. This opens up the doors for more tonneau covers

I would think the cover manufacturers could just make the same changes. It seems to me that reattaching the OEM bracket over the top would add strength to setup.

i just ordered the
BAK Vortrak Tonneau Cover for my 2020 ram with mft and no ram boxes and brackets from right on bracket ill let you guys know how it goes
How do you like the Vortrak? Any issues with it? I just ordered one for my truck w/o the MFT so curious how yours is working.

I acquired brackets of 3/8" steel from Pete at rightonbrackets.com, drilled them to match the factory brackets, and installed a retrax pro mx cover. Fit like a glove. The new brackets appear stronger than the factory bolts that secure them and the steel part of the bed they are fastened to. Love this cover, BTWView attachment 39921View attachment 39921
Hi- 3 questions on your Retrax MX Pro: 1) Do you still love it? 2) How water tight is it? 3) Can you close the MFT (either way) with the cover in the closed position? Thanks in advance!!! (I have a black limited 2020 just like yours!)

I just installed a Retrax XR Pro (same thing pretty much) with my MFT. I love it so far, and it seems to be mostly water tight. I wouldn't carry a bunch of water sensitive stuff in there, but the truck bed isn't the best case in any situation to carry stuff like that. Closing the MFT is no problem too. I made an install video last week, hopefully that helps add additional info for you.

On my 2020 with MFT, I have temporarily installed my re-used Tyger Soft folding (purchased on amazon 3 years ago for my 2016 1500). It has 2 screw tightening hooks that just barely make it past the brackets in the front. and the rear has the typical lever style hooks to the bed rail bottom. The edge stitching is frayed in some spots but otherwise keeps out water fairly well. Im currently watching all the MFT / Tonneau covers threads to see which is the best option to upgrade to. I really dont want to take off the front OEM brackets.

It does work fine with the MFT as far as closing and opening, and the rear seals well, other than the slight gap between the tailgate split.

I do not have the MFT, but do have the utility rails. The information I saw from Tyger states the T3 will not work with utility rails. Did you have any problems with installation due to the rails?

Best soft roll up for the MFT?.. Access, Tyger, or Gator?.. Anyone if any experience in these?

Gator FX3 on with Righton Brackets. Trimmed the cover rails so they would fit down flush with bed rail. I also cut an 45 degree angle out of the back side of the cover rail, so it would fit tighter in corner of the Righton Bracket. The Brackets push the rails in some, so it had to be “finessed” in to the rail and then the latches has to be adjusted in to work properly. Lastly the silver part of the cover rail has to be widened ever so slightly to get the bolts to go through. These are the bolts that hold the small section near the cab. Not terrible to do, but took more effort then I would have liked. 35AF7465-F165-4974-9158-15776778E2F3.jpeg033BEF99-F8C3-4F6C-86B1-49F5D7A85AE9.jpeg

Good morning,

As mentioned, we made an adjustment to the design of our brackets. They're still 3/8" thick for strength, but 2" wide instead of 2 1/2". From our tests, they still have plenty of strength but much sleeker and fit better.

We originally did this for owners to have the ability to add a hard bed cap.

Shoot us an Email if you have any questions: [email protected]

Here's another link to our brackets where you can order them: https://rightonbracket.com/product/ram-truck-bed-brackets/
Do you know if anyone has tried your brackets with a Weathertech Alloycover and multifunction tailgate? I am looking at that setup, but Weathertech website states their hard tri-fold will not work with the split tailgate. Hoping your brackets may be the salvation! I am going to call Weathertech Monday to try to find out what they believe prevents the Alloycover from working with the mft.

I haven't heard anyone use that tonneau cover yet. I would ask "why" their cover doesn't work with this truck. If the issue is the stock brackets not allowing the bed rails to be flush, our brackets should be the solution. This tonneau cover looks very similar to many others, so I don't see why it wouldn't work! Let us know what you hear!

Thanks. I will let you know what I find out.

Hello.. Is it just the front triangle brackets that is preventing tonneau’s from fitting or is it also the actual MFT?
