Tazer has voided my warranty

Going by that line of thought, installing a tire that is a different size than factory, could be grounds for the dealer voiding your warranty.

Also, it might, and that's a stretch, cause power train warranty to be voided, but should have zero effect on any warranty when it comes to the body warranty.
Like said above, run larger tires and blow an axle, not going to be covered. Install an aftermarket lift and break a spindle, not covered. Install a supercharger and blow a piston, not covered. But those won't void your entire warranty. But it seems bypassing the purposely installed security gateway to the entire brain of the truck will void the warranty in whole.

What about the bypasses that simply connect to the CAN bus without disconnecting the SGW?
the SGW prevents you or the internet connection from sending commands over the canbus. read only is allowed, but you have to authenticate to the SGW to issue commands. regardless the SGW controls the obd2 port access to the canbus. you can access the canbus in a hundred other locations just fine.

The SGW is to prevent people from "hacking" cars by plugging in obd2 devices or whatever and those devices being controlled wirelessly by youtubers to override many things. Since the truck is almost 100% by wire, you can just about drive them around remotely. The only thing still completely analog is the brakes and even then you can fark with the ABS system to fight inputs.

If you have Advanced Safety Group, brakes are both mechanical and drive by wire or brake by wire

Not feeling too good right now about having used a Hypertech to recalibrate my speedometer for a 33 inch tire. It's unfortunate that the incompetence of the dealership led me down that path, and that very incompetence could be used against me to void the warranty

I work at a business that builds trucks for dealers (Jeeps,Rams,Fords,Chevys) All of them. We use Hypertechs when we put a larger tire on these builds. These will NOT void your warranty. You're in the clear. :)

But does having someone "certified" to do it perform that function keep the warranty from being voided? and if just any joe blow does it then you're at risk?

Any joe blow can and it will be fine. :) (This is for calibrators only) Tuners and things like the Tazer you can run into these kind of issues that personally I feel aren't worth the hassle if an issue comes up. Granted the MM act is there to protect you but it can turn into a very long and drawn out nightmare to get any major issue resolved.

I should have clarified, that's Dr. Joe Blow. I didn't go to 6 years of Joe Blow medical school for nothing. Not to be confused with Blow Jo.... nevermind

I used the Rough County but am not worried. I'm guessing there is a difference between plugging into the OBD port to change the speedo setting vs bypassing the SGW to access settings not designed to be tampered with by the consumer.

The Tazer isn't a tuner, and really doesn't do anything more than what the hypertech does when adjusting the tire size. They both change the settings in the BCM.

The gist is I could have possibly avoided this hassle by not leaving my Tazer plugged in. I’ve left it in before at dealer visits and never had issues. I don’t use the Tazer live features and only really bought it for tire size recalibration and turning on fog lights with high beams. For me it was a set it and forget it, and I didn’t think about it being tucked under my dash. Lesson learned.
Magnusson-Moss warranty act places the burden on the MFG to prove that my mods created the problem. Ram says I have a Tune, but I don’t.
My truck had these driveline issues, and a replaced valve body and transmission, before I installed a Tazer. Ram has two or three times flashed my Tcm and had it on a black box and found no problems. I have removed/unmarried the Tazer and I am still experiencing the same issues in completely stock form. I don’t think Ram is in the right, but after months of trying to diagnose the true problem, they took the easy way out. The dealer techs didn’t freeze the vin, it was a Ram tech from what I was told by my SA.
I love my truck and really don’t want another truck. It’s true that resale values are high but so are new truck prices. Most dealers in my region are over MSRP right now and have no inventory.
I am considering a Power Wagon but I’ve got sales tax to consider and im getting a bad feeling about FCA. A trouble free truck is what I dream of.
Yeah not surprised on the third instance that they sent a ram tech to check it out. I'm interested in how this turns out. My second new vehicle ended up being a Lemon too 2007 Jeep, but since it had lift kit on it every dealer fought me on it. After the second fix that I had to pay out of pocket I sold it and swore to never buy another Jeep again. Crazy because my 2004 had way more stuff done to it and never had a single problem and I beat the hell out of that thing. There's only one dealer in my area that was actually UNDER MSRP the rest are all over MSRP so I went there and scooped up a 2021 Laramie Cummins only one they had on the lot and they gave me $10k over what I paid for my Denali Duramax. (Being almost the same color as my camaro was just a nice plus lol. Anyways man I hope you get it all worked out fighting with dealers is a pain in the *** sometimes.

Except that they plan for and expect that to be done when tire size is changed. It's the "acceptable" parameters to be changed. (Personally I think they should just shut up and stand behind their product. But what do I know)🤷‍♂️

Technically, if the dealer wanted to be an ***, if the tire size was changed by anyone other than a dealershio service department, they could hold that against the owner.

The issue is likely that the gateway was bypassed. I had to do this to use a Tazer on our Scat Pack. If using the version of the Tazer like mine from 2019, you are basically wiring around a security feature with the double bypass harness when you do it. However, I will say that our Scat Pack went in for warranty work several times. And there was never anything said. I didn't leave the Tazer in the vehicle and the bypass harness was well hidden. But the bypass harness was there, and the modifications were still programmed in. To be exact, I didn't unmarried it when we traded the Scat Pack for the Laramie. So that bypass harness is still in the car, the fog lights stay on with high beams, the seatbelt bell is muted and there is a front facing camera installed that works through car's camera system and controls. I don't know how that will affect the second owner. But it is what it is.

Also, I am very sorry for the OP that lost his warranty last year due to the Tazer. I was going to have mine unmarried and flashed for a RAM, install a bypass and use it on the Laramie. But I'm not going to now. A Throttle Commander doesn't change code, but I wonder if warranty work can be turned down due to it as well?

AFAIK, you can't just have the Tazer from your Scat Pack "flashed" for the Ram. The Ram TazerDT is plugged in, in place of the security module, and doesn't use the OBD port.

I doubt this device would be viewed any different than the tazer

I would 100% remove it whenever it has to go to the dealer. You just never know.

That's sad because a Throttle Commander was on my list. I'll just have to remember to actually push the accelerator down if I want to take off quickly.

A pedal monster/commander can't possibly void your warranty. All it does is push the pedal in faster, it doesn't talk to the truck or the computer systems or modify anything in anyway.

If those void your warranty, then so will a pair of steel toe boots, or a Karen on a crusade.
It does modify the signal from the pedal to the PCM/Throttle body. So, yes, it technically "talks" to the PCM.

This is one of those downsides to owning "newer" vehicles. We are dependent on dealerships for repairs and need warranties to help pay for it. A few years from now, there will likely be cell phone apps that can do all the diagnostics the dealerships can do today. Salvage, aftermarket and new-old-stock Mopar parts will be readily available. And there will be tons of how-to's on YouTube and on forums like this one. Then we can all repair our late 4th-Gen and 5th-Gen RAM trucks in the driveway ourselves or at local shops for reasonable prices. And then we can modify them as we see fit. Until then, we remain dependent on the manufacturer and dealerships. :(
