Surge when letting off brakes

I honestly do not know what to make of it. It's certainly back, but for the first few days / hundreds of miles, it was back to perfectly smooth and without a bump. It started back gradually, to the point of me thinking it was simply my imagination after dealing with it for so long, but that's not the case now.

Logically, I still want to believe it's the drive shaft since it went away for a few days after the replacement, but at the same time - what is causing the drive shaft to start doing it? I don't think these trucks are as susceptible to axle wrap like those with leaf springs, but you do feel like the rear end of the truck lowers ever so slightly once you let off the brakes / get the bump - what is binding things up? Torque converter staying too locked up when slowing down, then unlocking when you let off the brakes, in anticipation of accelerating? It's not that uncommon for the repair part to be faulty too these days, unfortunately, especially as revised parts probably get put on new vehicles first, and old ones might lay in inventory for a while.

I will bring the truck back to the dealer in a couple of weeks. I have to return to Germany for some unfortunate family business for the next week and a half, so this will be on the back burner until I get back stateside.
Thanks for the reply. I am starting to just get used to it. Bothers the S*** out of me but all manufacturers have problems like these and I may just have to accept it.

I'm afraid you are right. I knew there would be issues on a first year model, but didn't think it would be the technology that's almost as old as time now, like a drive shaft. :ROFLMAO:

But, seeing how FCA took care of me while I had my Grand Cherokee, and with the few issues we've had with our Wrangler, I feel in reasonably good hands. I have friends with Fords who weren't treated so well with their vehicles, and I didn't like the GM products that I also looked at.

I have the same thing but mine is usually when I'm backing out of a spot or just slowly rolling after letting off the brakes. It feels like the motor and tranny dont like being driven slow. It's like the computer is bumping the gas pedal or something.
Mine does the exact same thing. Would like to get fca on this. Hoping jasmine can send me something so I can get this taken care of. Any feedback on a cure for this yet?

I understand why this is concerning and hate to hear you've been to the dealer so many times. If you do end up going back and need any assistance with that process, let us know. We're available via direct message and would be happy to help in any way we can.

Good point. It used to not bother me because it was intermediate. Now it happens every time.
It also feels like the tranny also goes into neutral, as soon as the brake is released it goes back into gear, surges, and then everything else back to normal.
Mine did this for awhile when I was almost stopped but hasnt been doing it much lately. It felt to me like it was downshifting to 1st and overpowering the light pedal pressure. I have 4600 miles and am thinking the computer has learned when to downshift when I’m at a complete stop

Not surprising, I think mine is doing the same. I notice it when I back out from my routine parking space. I sharply turn the steering, put it in drive, and the truck lunges in a sideways fashion pitching the truck to the side. Anyone witnessing it would think I had a stick shift and was still learning to operate a clutch.

It might be the way the truck is tuned. Some newer engines (usually smaller displacement) are tuned to slightly increase RPMs as the brakes are released.

Between this and the abrupt 2-1 tranny downshift surge on deceleration and you really need to keep on guard while driving in traffic.

Mine does this too. Not all the time, but enough to annoy me. Passengers notice it, so it isn't in my head. Mine's a 5.7 w/o eTorque, also with the 3.92 rear.

That exact same thing happened to me Thursday when I left work. I was slowing down to stop at a light and the truck did a little lunge; then the a/c completely shut off. I thought the whole truck died for a moment because the a/c fan was on high and then everything went silent all of a sudden. Strange thing is, the fan would not go back on high for about 5 to 10 minutes after it happened.

Took mine in and it was verified with the shop Forman. He said it’s normal and have gotten hundreds of complaints about it

Mine surges like this as well any time the engine/trans has cooled down. It's not the transmission jumping from 1st to 2nd, it's the rpms jumping up and down.

I have an alley so I carefully drive through it and it does this all the time, also leaving the parking garage at work. Super annoying.

When the transmission has warmed up it's fine.

I just purchased a 2020 and it is also doing this. I will let them know during my first oil change to see what they say about it but will bring this up to them.
